This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnetters who are testing out the Weight Watchers programme.

Weight Watchers say: “With 50 years of success behind us we understand how to make losing weight simple, delicious and fun; but we also understand how challenging it can be when you’re facing it alone. Join us to lose weight, feel fantastic and achieve great things. You can follow our healthy eating plan completely online with support from our unique community, or benefit from attending our lively meetings, for personal coaching and weight loss guidance.”

Testers: we'll be asking you to add feedback once a week - we'd like your first impressions now and every week after that, we'll be posting some new questions for you to answer.

So, in terms of your first impressions...

~ Will you be going to meetings, following the plan online or a bit of both?
~ Why did you sign up to test out the Weight Watchers plan?
~ What sorts of foods do you think you'll be eating following the plan? Will it be a big change for you?

Everyone who adds their feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will receive a £100 Asda voucher, good luck!

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by Weight Watchers on their website and other marketing materials.

Thanks,

Ivd got 28 and 49 weekly.
I'm just considering lunch.

iwantgin · 01/10/2014 13:53

Am on Simple Start this week.

is 26 the minimum ppoints per day?

Teladi · 01/10/2014 14:15

I've got 26 points as well (I think it is the minimum)

This is Day 1. Am starving right now, and at work, I can't go and get any more food. Think I may have made poor choices with what to take to work, and I will need to make sure I have Filling and Healthy stuff in my desk or something, though I'm not sure what, I'll need to check the list. I have some random graze box things leftover, I was just ignoring them but I might need to check how many ProPoints they are. Better that than the cake in the kitchen. I'm supposed to be doing Simple Start but I haven't got any 'extra treat' stuff here either. URRR I'm so hungry. What an idiot, I can eat as much food as I want and then don't take enough of it to work.

I had Shredded Wheat and a cup of tea for my breakfast, then a banana in the morning, then I had a leftover portion of that frittata, a can of coke zero and an apple for my lunch. I ate my afternoon snack about 30 minutes ago because I was still hungry, it was some raw peppers with some low fat natural yoghurt. UGH when I write it down it looks like I have eaten quite a lot. Why am I so hungry? I normally have soup and bread for lunch.

OK back to work now I've had that whinge!!

iwantgin · 01/10/2014 14:24

Oh no Teladi . That doesn't look a lot to me actually, I am not surprised you are starving.

I am a SAHM so don't have to plan ahead so much - but when I did use to work in an office I would prep loads of snacks/salads etc to take to work with me. It's just a case of getting organised.

And yeah - leave the cake in the kitchen where it belongs :)

Teladi · 01/10/2014 14:56

Thanks iwantgin. I went and made a cup of tea and I feel a bit better! I'm not trying to eat too little on purpose, my bag was full of all my Tupperware this morning, I think I maybe just didn't choose the right selection of foods to put in it. I'll have to think about what to take the rest of this week, but for next week I might switch to taking soup (will try to make some!), some sort of protein (maybe cottage cheese?) and a sandwich thin. I do normally have to take my lunch and all my snacks with me, so that bit is not new, I just need to figure out what is going to keep me from feeling ravenous!

Would love to hear from other office dwellers about what they take with them to eat all day.

ihatethecold · 01/10/2014 16:00

Boiled eggs.
Few almonds.
Cottage cheese.

Ledkr · 01/10/2014 16:04

I take in either a big tub of salad and loads of fruit or a jacket potato cottage cheese or beans and fruit.
My other tip is that I take my breakfast in and eat it around ten then have lunch later.
For breakfast I have fruit with yogurt and a sprinkle of granola, it's yummy.

Ledkr · 01/10/2014 16:05

It makes the morning less of a rush too.

Teladi · 01/10/2014 16:39

thanks guys! I have a medical condition that means I need to eat when I get up, so can't leave my breakfast until I get into work. Thinking I could maybe tweak my breakfast to be two breakfasts, or at least a more substantial morning snack! Baked tatties are in order for next week too, good tip Ledkr.

I guess it may take me a while to get into the swing of eating this way and figure out how much food is enough. That's not WW's fault though, it's mine!

Ledkr · 01/10/2014 18:53

I bake my spud in the oven then reheat it at work. It's very filling and stops me snacking.
Had spag Bol tonight which was nice and I've saved points for some popcorn later with dd for our "dancemoms" night.

SandWitch · 01/10/2014 18:57

Really pleased to be picked. Thank you.

~ Will you be going to meetings, following the plan online or a bit of both?
Bit of both I think. I had planned to go to my first meeting on Tuesday, but finished work late. I would like to get into the routine of going to meetings if I can. I need all the motivation I can get to lose this weight.

~ Why did you sign up to test out the Weight Watchers plan?
I have a lot of weight to lose (3.5 stone) and have tried a number of diets in the past. Some successful in terms of weight loss, but never been able to keep it off for any length of time.
I need something that is easy to follow and doesn't require lots and lots of planning.

~ What sorts of foods do you think you'll be eating following the plan? Will it be a big change for you?
I think actually, my general diet is ok when I put a bit of effort in. My problem is snacking and not eating regularly. I often go the whole day without eating, particularly when work is busy and then get home and eat anything I can get my hands on.
I find that once I start eating, I often can't stop. Carbs are my downfall, even though I know that once I start eating them, it's a train crash waiting to happen.

I'd like to find a happy medium. I struggle with low carb as I hate missing out on fruit.

It's all a bit of a mess really and I'm hoping that WW helps me to remain focused.

ihatethecold · 01/10/2014 20:23

I'm finding the ww site quite annoying.
I still can't adjust the starting weight.
I thought I had managed earlier. When I go back on the app it's showing the wrong one.

ihatethecold · 01/10/2014 20:24

Also why can't I scan food like my fitness pal can.
It would save so much time.

hippoherostandinghere · 01/10/2014 21:31

I don't think the weight watchers app is as good as MFP, the database is smaller, and as you say there's no scanning function.

lunar1 · 01/10/2014 21:40

I can't make the meeting tomorrow as school is doing a half day. I have been on the website looking at simple start and at the apps.

If I'm being honest I think they are awful. I've looked at the simple start shopping list, should it not have recipes or a meal planner? It doesn't seem simple at all, it's just a giant list of food.

The app isn't much better and I'm not replacing mfp with it as it doesn't seem anywhere near as good so far.

I think I'll give the simple start a go if I can figure it out and see how I go at the meeting next week.

Teladi · 01/10/2014 21:49

There are Simple Start recipes on the website but I agree it is not easy, they only show you some options and then when you are browsing you find more recipes that would work for simple start. Just put them all in one place, WW! Here are some (think you will have to be logged in): www.weightwatchers.co.uk/util/art/index_art.aspx?tabnum=1&art_id=98722

I haven't used MFP for a while, I got annoyed when it started giving me advice about what I should eat!! But agree the database is better and I like the stats screens.

midlifehope · 01/10/2014 21:55

I started my first week of weight watchers / lost 4 1/2 pounds and was then told that the local branch was closing Confused so now I've given up. Any ideas what I can do?

dobedobedo · 02/10/2014 10:39

There's a scan function on my ww app! I have an android phone, are there different apps?

The database isn't that big though.

BrieAndChilli · 02/10/2014 10:57

I signed up last week but havnt managed to get to class yet due to opticians appt
I signed up as I fed up of looking crap in clothes. Need to lose at least 2 stone.
Havnt really got to grips with the app, tried putting in a meal I made but the only suitable option included fruit and other stuff makin it a complete meal but I hadn't had the extra stuff but could t find how to just put the bake in that I made.
Also app doesn't work if no internet so can't do it while waiting fr kids at school which is annoying as I have half hour wait between school and Playschool which would be ideal time to update app.
Think I need to get to a meeting and get some help with working everything out

ihatethecold · 02/10/2014 11:33

On a plus side.
I haven't eaten any sugar for 3 days now.
Feel much better for it.
I've not been stuffing down carbs either.
And I slept like a log last night. Smile

dobedobedo · 02/10/2014 14:04

Brie just go by the list of foods and choose anything off them for simple start. The meal builders are a bit limited and don't reflect the meals I'd eat, dieting or not.

mommathatwearspink · 02/10/2014 15:39

It feels great to have started and finally get some control over what I put in my body.

Will you be going to meetings, following the plan online or a bit of both?
I will be attending meetings on a Thursday morning. I attended my first meeting yesterday and I was made to feel really welcome by my leader Michelle. She explained the plan to myself and another new member which was really informative and asked us about why we had joined Weight Watchers. She suggested we try the Simply Start plan for the first week, however I have decided to follow the Pro Points plan from the start. Her speeches during the meeting were informative, motivating and fun... everyone really got involved.

Why did you sign up to test out the Weight Watchers plan?
I signed up to to test the Weight Watchers plan because I want to loose weight and feel confident in myself again after giving birth to my daughter in April. I had lost 2st pre-pregnancy and felt great inside and out and I wanted to feel that again. I also feel that it teachers you to follow a healthy lifestyle and that will be really important to my whole family.

What sorts of foods do you think you'll be eating following the plan? Will it be a big change for you?
I followed a diet plan pre-pregnancy to loose 2st so I am already aware of the foods I should be eating. I love that you can make smoothies on the Weight Watchers plan so I cant wait to start trying some of those out. The biggest change for me will be that I now need to measure all of my food out, however I think it will teach me the correct portion sizes I should be eating.

bshree08 · 02/10/2014 16:56

Shock
It was tiny!

Eva50 · 03/10/2014 09:54

I just wrote a lovely long boring post and lost it so in summary!

~ Will you be going to meetings, following the plan online or a bit of both?
I will be going to meetings. The leader at the local one was lovely and sent me a txt following the meeting each week. I lost 2.5 lbs this week Smile

~ Why did you sign up to test out the Weight Watchers plan?
I came to motherhood late and don't want to be the fattest as well as the oldest mother at the school gates. I am also menopausal and beginning to creak.

~ What sorts of foods do you think you'll be eating following the plan? Will it be a big change for you?
Not a huge change but I hope that documenting and counting what I eat will give me focus.
