I was unaware of the brand before this test.

I had never heard of the snack pack.

Somehow I managed to try the cream cheese and cranberry product which is not listed here. I fancied the cheese in the others but not the relish so went for this one. I found the product quite hard to find in the supermarket but they had the full range in there and I also saw a pack of lowlow grated cheese.

I ate this today at lunch time instead of a sandwich alongside some fruit and a yoghurt.

I'm afraid I didn't like it. I did like the toast, the relish was ok but the cream cheese was horrible. It tasted very plasticky and there was only just enough to go on the toasts. The relish was a bit sweet for me and there was loads of it by contrast to the cheese. I had 6 bits of toast but would have liked a few more!

I really like the idea if semi skimmed cheese and may consider trying it if the feedback here is good. Based on the cream cheese sample I tried I was not impressed though.

At the moment, based on the product that I did try, I would not recommend.

In the shop today, some of the range was on offer at £1 and some was full price at £1.50, this seemed strange to me. I think £1 is an acceptable price but I wouldn't pay £1.50 as I don't think there is enough in there to merit it.

As before, id never heard of the brand. Based on my sample, I'm unlikely to try again and certainly not the cream cheese. However if I saw the normal cheese on offer and saw that other ladies had said the taste was good, I might be prepared to try it.

Sorry if that was a bit brutal!

  • Were you aware of the LowLow Snack Pack before this product test?
No I wasn't

  • Would you recommend the LowLow Snack Pack to a friend? Yes because it's a tasty fairly healthy snack
  • Would you buy the LowLow Snack Pack at the price £1.50 if it was available in your usual store? Probably not as it's quite a lot price wise for just a snack...

It is Cranberry relish - ie not any of these ones listed - but it was lovely!

  • When and where did you eat the LowLow Snack Pack?

I always get peckish a little while after the school run so I had it as a mid morning snack at home.

  • Was this in place of another snack you would normally eat at that time? If so, please tell us what

I would usually eat some bread and butter or some crackers and butter.

  • How satisfied were you with the LowLow Snack Pack?
Very. Really enjoyed it (i wasn't sure I would as I thought it was a gimmicky concept - but it worked because it tasted good and not really over processed.)
  • How appealing or unappealing do you find the idea of cheese made from semi skimmed milk?

The cheese was really good - i was wondering if it is sold separately as a spread because i would buy it!

I've kept the empty container as a bento tray for my toddler too - so that was handy!

beanandspud · 27/09/2014 19:39

Were you aware of the LowLow brand before this product test? If so, what comes to mind when you think about the LowLow brand?

I wasn't aware of the Lowow brand previously. I saw a couple of other products whilst searching for this one and to be honest I thought the packaging looked a bit cheap. It was also with the 'Dairylea Dunkers' and other processed cheese snacks which put me off a bit.

Were you aware of the LowLow Snack Pack before this product test?

No, never heard of them. I had to search the supermarket to pick up the free sample as (stupidly) I thought it would be with the cereal bars/crackers.

Which LowLow Snack Pack did you buy? (available in 3 flavours: Red Pepper & Onion Chutney, Sweet Tomato Relish, Caramelised Onion Chutney)

Caramelised onion chutney - the only other option available was the Red Pepper chutney.

When and where did you eat the LowLow Snack Pack?

Early evening, at home, with a glass of wine Blush

Was this in place of another snack you would normally eat at that time? If so, please tell us what

I would normally have had a bowl of crisps/nuts but decided to try this.

How satisfied were you with the LowLow Snack Pack?

It was ok. Tasty enough but not particularly satisfying. I also found it quite messy which is fine at home but I'm not sure that I would be keen to take it out and about. There was a lot of chutney.

How appealing or unappealing do you find the idea of cheese made from semi skimmed milk?

I think it's a good thing - I love 'proper' cheese but for something like this that you are going to cover in chutney there was no compromise in the flavour. I am slightly confused though at the claim that these are less than 150cals when my pack was 187cals.

Would you recommend the LowLow Snack Pack to a friend?

Sorry, but probably not. There was nothing wrong with it but I can think of a lot of other snack options that are more satisfying and less messy.

Would you buy the LowLow Snack Pack at the price £1.50 if it was available in your usual store?

This was on sale for £1.50 which seems quite expensive - 30p for each small cracker/cheese/chutney. I could buy a supermarket sandwich for not much more.

If you were previously aware of the LowLow brand, has the LowLow Snack Pack changed the way you think about the brand?

I wanted to like this but I'm not sure that I would buy it again. The brand isn't particularly strong yet.

Thank you mumsnet and LowLow for picking me as a tester Flowers here is my feedback.

- Were you aware of the LowLow brand before this product test? If so, what comes to mind when you think about the LowLow brand? I have heard of the brand but never tried any of the products before, I am aware that they produce low fat cheese.

- Were you aware of the LowLow Snack Pack before this product test? I had seen the snack packs advertised on TV but never tried them.

- Which LowLow Snack Pack did you buy? (available in 3 flavours: Red Pepper & Onion Chutney, Sweet Tomato Relish, Caramelised Onion Chutney) Caramelised onion chutney

- When and where did you eat the LowLow Snack Pack? Yesterday while out sshopping with friends.

- Was this in place of another snack you would normally eat at that time? If so, please tell us what No, I was a bit peckish and had the voucher with me and decided to try it.

- How satisfied were you with the LowLow Snack Pack? Very, it was very tasty, particularly the chutney, although a little more would have been better.

- How appealing or unappealing do you find the idea of cheese made from semi skimmed milk? Before I tried the snack pack I assumed it would be lacking in flavour because of the lower fat content, but I am glad to say I was wrong and the fact that it is lower in fat while still being tasty is very appealing indeed.

- Would you recommend the LowLow Snack Pack to a friend? I already have, I let my friend try one while I was eating it and she liked it so much she bought one too.

- Would you buy the LowLow Snack Pack at the price £1.50 if it was available in your usual store? Yes I think the price is very reasonable. However, It would be more appealing if you had slightly more chutney in the pack for the same price.

- If you were previously aware of the LowLow brand, has the LowLow Snack Pack changed the way you think about the brand? Yes, I now know that this particular product is very tasty and I would have probably avoided buying it before as I would have wrongly assumed that lower fat equalled less flavour.

My DH would have had any side on offer - garlic bread, potato wedges, chicken wings.
  • How satisfied were you with the LowLow Snack Pack?
We didn't like it. The breads were too hard and not enough of them of them for the quantity of chutney. The chutney wasn't very nice.

Neither though reduced fat was good.
  • Would you recommend the LowLow Snack Pack to a friend? No

  1. No, I had not heard of the LowLow snack packs before this product test.
  1. I bought the caramalised onion flavour snack pack.
  1. I ate the snack pack in the car one evening waiting for my son to finish football training.
  1. Yes it replaced a sweet snack that I would normally eat at that time.
  1. I was quite satisfied with the snack pack. The flavours were really good, but I didn't find the fork until I had almost finished, so up until that point, thought that it was a bit fiddly!
  1. Cheese made from semi-skimmed milk is really appealing to me - any way to reduce fat in our diets is good for me.
  1. I would recommend the product to a friend, because the taste and convenience is good.
  1. I think the £1.50 price point is too high, so no I wouldn't buy it at that price. It was selling for £1 in my local Asda.
  1. Not previously aware of the brand, so cannot answer.

£1.50 is a bit steep, but they were on offer for 2 packs for £2 so I would pay that
  • If you were previously aware of the LowLow brand, has the LowLow Snack Pack changed the way you think about the brand?
Yes, I will try the other cheese now (not just the spread) as it was delicious.

Thanks for picking me for this!

Fairly unappealing. I have always steered clear of low fat cheese, but this tastes OK.

Ok, I found the fork once I'd got to the end. It was under the cheese - too late now!!! If it had said on the lid that a fork was included, I might have searched for it. Why not put it with the toasts, might be easier to see there, or put a white fork in to make it easier to spot.

Maybe.
  • If you were previously aware of the LowLow brand, has the LowLow Snack Pack changed the way you think about the brand?
Coop and Budgens didn't have it - had to go all the way to the large Asda in Poole to get it. If a particular brand is not available in my local shops, it's not going to remain on my radar for very long. That said, it was nice to try something different but hard cheese is so much nicer in my opinion.

  • Were you aware of the LowLow brand before this product test? If so, what comes to mind when you think about the LowLow brand?

I wasn't aware of the brand.

  • Were you aware of the LowLow Snack Pack before this product test?

No.

  • Which LowLow Snack Pack did you buy? (available in 3 flavours: Red Pepper & Onion Chutney, Sweet Tomato Relish, Caramelised Onion Chutney)

Caramelised Onion Chutney - the Tesco I bought it from didn't have the Red Pepper and Onion variety in stock or I would probably have gone for that.

  • When and where did you eat the LowLow Snack Pack?

I ate it at home, as part of lunch.

  • Was this in place of another snack you would normally eat at that time? If so, please tell us what

187 calories seems like a pretty substantial snack to me, but if I hadn't had the Snack Pack I would probably have had toast in its place.

  • How satisfied were you with the LowLow Snack Pack?

As I had a voucher I bought the product and then looked at the back of the pack. The pack looked nice enough, though snack itself didn't wow me - the pickle was rather sickly and the cheese a bit plastic - but it's the ingredients/nutritional values I have a problem with. Beyond the name "LowLow", the pack doesn't make any claims about being low fat/low sugar/low salt/low calorie/low anything - it doesn't even say cheese made with semi-skimmed milk - so I don't know if I'm being unfair but there's a lot of sugar in the chutney and compared to my 'normal' toast there's a lot more salt. The balance between protein and carbs isn't great and I found the balance between the pickle and cheese to be too pickle-heavy. Also, I had 6 pieces of 'toast' but only 5 slices of cheese, which seemed odd!

I was disappointed to see that the toast has palm oil margarine in it, as palm oil is a product that is not sustainable and we really need to move away from using it. There's also a lot of packaging for what it is.

  • How appealing or unappealing do you find the idea of cheese made from semi skimmed milk?

I find it appealing for a snack though I find "low fat" hard cheese doesn't cook well, so it depends what I was buying the cheese for. I am a sucker for snacking on low-fat Babybel.

  • Would you recommend the LowLow Snack Pack to a friend?

No, it was very processed, the pickle was far too sweet and the cheese didn't really taste of anything.

  • Would you buy the LowLow Snack Pack at the price £1.50 if it was available in your usual store?

No, I think I'd stick to buying snack cheese, which gets me a lot more snacks for the money. I can get 6 Babybel for £1.50 at the moment, or £3.50 for enough cheddar for the family for a week. £1.50 seems really expensive for a snack - especially if you're selling it as an alternative to a packet of crisps.

  • If you were previously aware of the LowLow brand, has the LowLow Snack Pack changed the way you think about the brand?

I wasn't aware of the brand, but it's not really impressed me.

Were you aware of the LowLow brand before this product test? If so, what comes to mind when you think about the LowLow brand?

I was aware ifbthe brand but hadn't tried any products as I assumed low fat cheese products wouldn't be very tasty.

  • Were you aware of the LowLow Snack Pack before this product test?

No

Sweet tomato relish.

At home during late afternoon, when I would usually snack.

  • Was this in place of another snack you would normally eat at that time? If so, please tell us what

Probably instead of some crisps.

  • How satisfied were you with the LowLow Snack Pack?

I really enjoyed it. It all tasted lovely, but there were more toasts than slices of cheese so I halved a couple of the cheese pieces.

I'm not bothered as long as it tastes nice.

  • Would you recommend the LowLow Snack Pack to a friend?

Definitely.

Were you aware of the LowLow brand before this product test? If so, what comes to mind when you think about the LowLow brand?
I had heard of LowLow before from my Irish dh

  • Were you aware of the LowLow Snack Pack before this product test?
No, but I had seen the cheese slices in Tesco.
  • Which LowLow Snack Pack did you buy? (available in 3 flavours: Red Pepper & Onion Chutney, Sweet Tomato Relish, Caramelised Onion Chutney)
Caramelised Onion Chutney(tasted like Branston to me)
  • When and where did you eat the LowLow Snack Pack?
At home in the kitchen.
  • Was this in place of another snack you would normally eat at that time? If so, please tell us what
Yes, instead of a biscuit (got in from school, wondering what to make for dinner).
  • How satisfied were you with the LowLow Snack Pack?
It was fine - the cheese was tastier than expected as I feared it would be Dairylea Lunchables-style plasticky. I liked the toasts, which seemed healthier than crackers.
  • How appealing or unappealing do you find the idea of cheese made from semi skimmed milk?
It's great! The cheese was delicious.
  • Would you recommend the LowLow Snack Pack to a friend?
Yes, and I'd tell them how to find the fork, as if it weren't for reading this thread, I wouldn't have known it was there!
  • Would you buy the LowLow Snack Pack at the price £1.50 if it was available in your usual store?
Probably not. Maybe for a pcnic.
  • If you were previously aware of the LowLow brand, has the LowLow Snack Pack changed the way you think about the brand?
Yes - the cheese tastes like proper cheese - I thought it might taste more processed.

I finally managed to find them! My local mid-sized Sainsbury's didn't have them but the little Tesco's near work (which caters more to people grabbing something for lunch) did.

  • Were you aware of the LowLow brand before this product test? If so, what comes to mind when you think about the LowLow brand?

I was vaguely aware of it and think I had seen some low-fat cheese things and half-noticed the snack packs before.

  • Were you aware of the LowLow Snack Pack before this product test?

Think I had half-noticed them on shelves before but not paid that much attention.

  • Which LowLow Snack Pack did you buy? (available in 3 flavours: Red Pepper & Onion Chutney, Sweet Tomato Relish, Caramelised Onion Chutney)

Caramelised onion chutney.

  • When and where did you eat the LowLow Snack Pack?

Lunchtime as I had not had any breakfast and not had a chance to eat proper lunch yet either and was starving.

  • Was this in place of another snack you would normally eat at that time? If so, please tell us what

No, but another day I might have used it to replace a sweet snack.

  • How satisfied were you with the LowLow Snack Pack?

I found it quite tasty. I had more toasts than some people seem to have had, but less cheese bits than toasts. Also had loads of chutney, more than I really needed so I didn't eat it all. A bit more cheese and slightly less chutney would be nice. The toasts were nicely crunchy.

  • How appealing or unappealing do you find the idea of cheese made from semi skimmed milk?

Appealing if it tastes as good as normal cheese (and it did seem to have quite a good flavour).

  • Would you recommend the LowLow Snack Pack to a friend?

If it came up in conversation I might.

  • Would you buy the LowLow Snack Pack at the price £1.50 if it was available in your usual store?

Possibly if I was in the shop at the right time when I wanted something to keep me going. It wouldn't work as e.g. a snack to keep in my desk though.

  • If you were previously aware of the LowLow brand, has the LowLow Snack Pack changed the way you think about the brand?

I didn't know much about it before so this has made me think better of it.

Other comments:

  • I seemed to have two of the little spoony things, but one had sunk into the chutney and got all sticky so I had to fish it out!
  • I think having a spicy version (with spicy chutney or Mexicana cheese) as someone else suggested is a good idea!
  • In the interests of research I did look at the pack information and was a bit Shock that it is 25% sugars, especially as one of my reasons for potentially choosing that sort of snack would be as an alternative to chocolate or sugary treats. I guess that is mostly down to the chutney, as that is quite sweet and there was a lot of it (though I didn't eat it all so that will have cut down the sugar a bit). So having a bit less chutney and more cheese would help with that too I suppose.
