We've been asked by the team at Freesat to find 15 UK Mumsnetters to try out a Freesat+ box with and to share their feedback on Mumsnet.

We're looking for folks who are keen to switch from their current TV provider or who want to add this box to another TV in their home. Testers should be in the UK and have at least one child at home.

Here's what they have to say: "Hello. We're freesat. We believe you shouldn't have to pay a monthly subscription to watch and listen to 180 channels of the best comedy, drama, sport, lifestyle, music and news. We offer free HD services from ITV, the BBC and Channel 4; freesat+ to record pause and rewind, BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Demand; and all subscription free."

Freesat launched last Autumn which includes a Roll Back TV Guide that allows you to watch programmes you've missed from the previous seven days across 21 channels, a new showcase section providing top TV picks chosen daily by Freesat's reviewers, on-demand services and enhanced recordings.

Freesat is a subscription free service and Freesat+ boxes are available to buy from a range of retailers - RRP from £226.

If you're selected to take part you will be sent a Humax 500GB Freesat+ with box worth £226.You will then need to try it and add feedback at least twice to a thread on Mumsnet. You'll be asked to add your first impressions and then to add extra feedback a week or two later to share what you've been watching, recording, pausing and how you and your family are finding Freesat.

There are some technical requirements for this product test:

  • You will need a satellite dish to install Freesat. If you already have a satellite dish you'll be asked to install the Freesat box at home. If you do not, a satellite dish will be fitted for you, but you must ensure that you have access and permission (if required)
  • You will also need access to the internet to access . The minimum speed required is 2mbps, you can test your speed here

If you'd like to take part please add your details here

So long as you add feedback as required you will be able to keep the box after testing is over.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

How big is the box? Similar size to a sky box?

UserError · 12/09/2013 20:42

Once I manage to persuade the cat to get off it (still in the cardboard box), I shall be able to tell you...

pickofthepops · 12/09/2013 22:16

Maybe 3/4 of the size of a sky plus. Gloss black plastic, rounded, neat and light. And very easy to set up.

Littlemissexpecting · 12/09/2013 22:27

Thanks pick
User I have an image of you wrestling with the cat to start this trial!

Smile do keep Angelie up to speed on any changes - eg if you don't need engineer etc won't you? We'll get the proper feedback thread up soonish.

Got a problem.
Install company messing about. Office rang the other day for install today so I told them I can't do til after 12 but the engineer rang this morning saying he was coming at 10.

Now they've cancelled.

I don't actually need an install. Once I get the box I can do it myself, I have a dish with 2 spare feeds which are connected to my sitting room.

All I need is a short length of double core cable and a hdmi or SCART and I can do it all myself.

Help!

MikeLitoris · 13/09/2013 13:41

Box arrived yesterday havent had a chance to open or set it up yet though.

Will have a go at it on the weekend.

GobbySadcase · 13/09/2013 20:22

Ooh. Installers jumped when MNHQ got in touch!

No box yet though.

UserError · 13/09/2013 21:23

Littlemissexpecting, that is almost exactly what will happen. We have two cats and the elder has 'claimed' the box as his. Until he tires of sitting on top of it, I can't open it. If I wait until he's not around he'll just prowl around the house yowling, looking for it.

Littlemissexpecting · 14/09/2013 09:45

Has anyone else not got their box yet? Still not here

GobbySadcase · 14/09/2013 10:17

Not got mine yet either.

HappyMummyOfOne · 14/09/2013 10:21

Had my box Thursday and the engineerr called to book the installation.

I presume they do leave the existing Sky service intact as i have not yet cancelled it but intend too if the new box lives upto expectations. Never thought to ask them whilst when they called.

snowballinafryingpan · 14/09/2013 10:33

All up and running here, installers were great, dish up, all very neat and tidy.

Wish I had cleaned cobwebs and other things - looking at you ds - from behind the tv corner first though.Blush

They set everything up, postcode etc and both said how much easier it was to install than other systems. It was the first one they had installed with Freetime and the contact sheet for me had VIP on it!

The best thing so far is no Quest, dh not happy!

I didn't realise that I had an HD ready tv either so very pleased.

Hope yours comes soon littlemiss and gobby and that the cat is not too upset about his box user

LaVitaBellissima · 14/09/2013 12:01

Happy the engineer has both my virgin and the Freesat running on the TV on different HDMi channels (I think that's right)
Also my tv is HD too and the picture is amazing!

MikeLitoris · 14/09/2013 12:50

I was going to set this up today but wanted to set it up in another room and my wires dont stretch.

I'm off out in a bit so will see if I can get an extension wire.

If not I'll put it in the living room tonight. Seems simple enough to set up

noisytoys · 14/09/2013 13:53

Not got mine yet but my initial email went to junk so I only just found out one was coming. Still so excited Smile

WeAreEternal · 15/09/2013 09:41

First impressions

The box looks very stylish, much smarter than any of the other satellite/cable boxes on the market.

The box was incredibly easy to install and set up, it took no time at all.

I love the free time feature where you can go back and watch programs aired at in the past just by scrolling back through the planner.

The planner is easy to navigate (once you've got the hang of it) and has a nice look to it.

It gives a really great picture.

I don't really like the remote though.

DS is very impressed with it.

HappyMummyOfOne · 15/09/2013 09:50

Lavita, thanks. We have sky not virgin though and just hoping it means we have to swap the cables between devices rather than cut of the sky as i havent yet given notice or set up an alternative in the other rooms we have tv. Am sure though that MN would have said you lose your sky if that was the case.

Granny23 · 16/09/2013 13:35

I have had my box since middle of last week but no call from engineer - should we just try to set it up ourselves?

UserError · 16/09/2013 16:21

Ours is installed - do we have the proper feedback thread yet, Mumsnet?

noisytoys · 16/09/2013 18:59

Ours is set up and working. This is very impressive!

Scooter58 · 16/09/2013 20:27

Box installed today, very impressed so far.Have recorded a few programmes, great picture and very neat box, can't wait to spend a few hours exploring all channels .

GobbySadcase · 16/09/2013 21:13

DPD doing their usual thing of not attempting to deliver and telling MNHQ they tried twice - nope, I'm not well and have been home all week and they haven't even attempted to deliver, plus no card.

Bit naughty...

Littlemissexpecting · 17/09/2013 08:00

The engineer is meant to be coming today but I haven't received my box yet.....

Littlemissexpecting · 17/09/2013 11:28

Ok engineers were meant to call this morning to confirm time.
Not heard anything yet and really need to pop to shops so I won't be happy if I wait in all day.
