We've been asked by the team at Freesat to find 15 UK Mumsnetters to try out a Freesat+ box with and to share their feedback on Mumsnet.

We're looking for folks who are keen to switch from their current TV provider or who want to add this box to another TV in their home. Testers should be in the UK and have at least one child at home.

Here's what they have to say: "Hello. We're freesat. We believe you shouldn't have to pay a monthly subscription to watch and listen to 180 channels of the best comedy, drama, sport, lifestyle, music and news. We offer free HD services from ITV, the BBC and Channel 4; freesat+ to record pause and rewind, BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Demand; and all subscription free."

Freesat launched last Autumn which includes a Roll Back TV Guide that allows you to watch programmes you've missed from the previous seven days across 21 channels, a new showcase section providing top TV picks chosen daily by Freesat's reviewers, on-demand services and enhanced recordings.

Freesat is a subscription free service and Freesat+ boxes are available to buy from a range of retailers - RRP from £226.

If you're selected to take part you will be sent a Humax 500GB Freesat+ with box worth £226.You will then need to try it and add feedback at least twice to a thread on Mumsnet. You'll be asked to add your first impressions and then to add extra feedback a week or two later to share what you've been watching, recording, pausing and how you and your family are finding Freesat.

There are some technical requirements for this product test:

  • You will need a satellite dish to install Freesat. If you already have a satellite dish you'll be asked to install the Freesat box at home. If you do not, a satellite dish will be fitted for you, but you must ensure that you have access and permission (if required)
  • You will also need access to the internet to access . The minimum speed required is 2mbps, you can test your speed here

If you'd like to take part please add your details here

So long as you add feedback as required you will be able to keep the box after testing is over.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

Grin Me too, my first mumsnet trial.

swallowedAfly, I felt the same when I wasn't picked for the B&Q garden makeover.

If it helps, we moved from Sky to Virgin because we were fed up with shite customer service, but now we're stuck with even worse service AND hardware constantly breaking or not working fully. We can't afford it anyway but we're locked into a contract with them now and have to keep paying for a shit service or default and affect our credit ratings.

MikeLitoris · 10/09/2013 22:30

I can understand being a bit miffed at not being picked for these things but they are product tests, not free gifts.

I'm sure there are a certain number of testers who already have sky/virgin and a number that don't

It's really unfair to begrudge people that can afford sky/virgin the chance to participate just because they can afford stuff.

swallowedAfly · 10/09/2013 23:45

bugger user - virgin was really good at my last place but since moving here it's not available. i really liked it - more than sky anyway but long history of hideous customer service it's true.

i know - i was mocking myself being bitter rather than having a proper moan if that wasn't clear.

i've been lucky before - i got a year of free sky on a product test - well expect they never asked for feedback really so i think it was more a way of advertising on mumsnet really itms - never did any surveys or anything despite thinking we'd have to.

supermariossister · 11/09/2013 00:08

virgin wasn't available here when we stRted arranging the services hence why we had sky but no movies or sport. not finding there is much on but I'm not big on tv the kids would miss it though so I wangled a discount off them and then we will see what happens. intrigued by the freesat as I love being able to record and watch whenever

Littlemissexpecting · 11/09/2013 07:57

I'm in! Thank you thank you thank you mumsnet!
My first product test :-)

swallowedAfly · 11/09/2013 08:08

yes that's what i miss supermario - the being able to record and watch whenever. without it i never watch tv as i don't like the sit down at this time and watch restrictions.

Carriepreston · 11/09/2013 10:17

I didn't apply for this in the end but am looking forward to the feedback as it is something I will consider in the future

UserError · 11/09/2013 13:35

I am hoping the Freesat+ box has a magical function that stops endless episodes of Peppa Pig from playing. It does, right?

Jux · 11/09/2013 14:43

Just checked my mail. Sad no box for me

Take that Freesat!

JemimaMuddledUp · 11/09/2013 14:53
Sad

Maybe next time...

WeileWeileWaile · 12/09/2013 09:41

My freesat box has just arrived and I was phoned yesterday to arrange an appointment for installing the satellite dish - I'm impressed with the speed this is being arranged.

Littlemissexpecting · 12/09/2013 10:23

I got a call yesterday too, they are coming Tues to fit satellite dish.
No freesat box yet, did it come same time as postman or special delivery? Hope I'm not meant to stay in for it!

WeileWeileWaile · 12/09/2013 10:25

It was the postman, but it was signed for. I imagine if your not in, you could get it from the sorting office - easier than rearranging delivery with a courier.

My satellite is being fitted on Tuesday too - can't wait to get started Smile

UserError · 12/09/2013 11:23

Monday for us. We have a satellite dish, but when we switched over to Virgin, I suspect the Virgin installer cut the cables to it. Shock To be fair to him, I'm not sure if he actually did, but he asked if we wanted the cables 'tidying up' and I'm not sure what he did. Hence the nice Freesat people coming out on Monday to double-check.

I assumed they'd be bringing the box with them but people are getting them delivered? That'll teach me to let DP answer the phone.

pickofthepops · 12/09/2013 12:21

Me too, booked in for Tuesday on phone but it arrived today and I have already set it up. Dead easy, just want DH to come home and agree all fine and maybe will call and cancel engineer. Have pmed MNHQ to ask about the Ethernet connection for iplayer .. I think I need to get power adapters as the router is too far from telly. On a tight budget though so will check if we need to review all functions of freesat. So impressed by speed. Thanks again!

noisytoys · 12/09/2013 12:34

I've been picked too thankyou so much MNHQ so excited to try this out Smile

WeileWeileWaile · 12/09/2013 13:08

To be fair to your DH User they didn't mention the box on the phone yesterday, so I assumed it would be coming with the dish too. I was surprised to get it this morning.

UserError · 12/09/2013 14:05

No! Don't be fair to him, he's RUBBISH on the phone. Smile

Anyway, as I was typing this, there was a knock on the front door and the box has been delivered. Woohoo!

LaVitaBellissima · 12/09/2013 14:35

Mine arrived today too, via DPD, and the engineer is coming on Thursday. Exciting!

I was gutted not to be picked for the Cruise day so this is brilliant. Advice is just to keep entering the product tests and competitions, you'll win eventually Smile

UserError · 12/09/2013 15:33

The cat has claimed it. I'm renaming it to FreeCat because I like terrible puns.

UserError · 12/09/2013 15:34

By claimed it, I mean he's sitting on top of the box and hissing at me if I go too close.

Littlemissexpecting · 12/09/2013 15:58

User at least they will speak to your DH. They would only speak to me when they phoned, despite me bathing baby!
No box today, so maybe tomorrow.

UserError · 12/09/2013 16:28

How annoying! Maybe they heard me moaning the background, going 'Nooooo, I'm fed up of the phone. It's your turn!'.

I am very excited for Monday but I'm wondering where we're going to put the box. Our TV cabinet thingy doesn't have that much space.

snowballinashoebox · 12/09/2013 16:32

Engineer called this morning and is coming tomorrow to put up the dish and lovely shiny box arrived this afternoon. Very efficient, am impressed.

I have absolutely no idea how any of it works, never had satellite television before but it couldn't have happened at a better time as we have not been able to receive half our digital stations for over a week now.
