We've been asked by the team at Freesat to find 15 UK Mumsnetters to try out a Freesat+ box with and to share their feedback on Mumsnet.

We're looking for folks who are keen to switch from their current TV provider or who want to add this box to another TV in their home. Testers should be in the UK and have at least one child at home.

Here's what they have to say: "Hello. We're freesat. We believe you shouldn't have to pay a monthly subscription to watch and listen to 180 channels of the best comedy, drama, sport, lifestyle, music and news. We offer free HD services from ITV, the BBC and Channel 4; freesat+ to record pause and rewind, BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Demand; and all subscription free."

Freesat launched last Autumn which includes a Roll Back TV Guide that allows you to watch programmes you've missed from the previous seven days across 21 channels, a new showcase section providing top TV picks chosen daily by Freesat's reviewers, on-demand services and enhanced recordings.

Freesat is a subscription free service and Freesat+ boxes are available to buy from a range of retailers - RRP from £226.

If you're selected to take part you will be sent a Humax 500GB Freesat+ with box worth £226.You will then need to try it and add feedback at least twice to a thread on Mumsnet. You'll be asked to add your first impressions and then to add extra feedback a week or two later to share what you've been watching, recording, pausing and how you and your family are finding Freesat.

There are some technical requirements for this product test:

  • You will need a satellite dish to install Freesat. If you already have a satellite dish you'll be asked to install the Freesat box at home. If you do not, a satellite dish will be fitted for you, but you must ensure that you have access and permission (if required)
  • You will also need access to the internet to access . The minimum speed required is 2mbps, you can test your speed here

If you'd like to take part please add your details here

So long as you add feedback as required you will be able to keep the box after testing is over.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

yes, 'closed' message would be better with an indication of whether people have been informed etc so we know if we're still in with a chance.

no virgin here, sky too expensive and both mobile and home phone and broadband contracts up for renewal so waiting to see if this changes things...

supermariossister · 07/09/2013 13:21

still no emails anyone? curious as to whether people have been told

pickofthepops · 07/09/2013 15:32

Nothing here .. Need tv again and really can't justify sky. And can't face someone round to install an aerial. This is the best option for us and would love some good news. It looks fab.

Hi everyone, just to clarify that selected testers have not been contacted yet, but they will be emailed this week :)

Oh sob. I really really wanted this.

swallowedAfly · 10/09/2013 17:16

oh good - still in with a chance then.

no virgin here, sky is extortionate (and i'm stuck with their box which is the most useless thing ever as you can't reorder the channels on the guide but have to trawl through a zillion ones you don't have to get to the freeview ones) and absolutely can't justify paying a fortune for a new box/system. so so so hoping we get picked.

we were lucky enough to trial sky for a year through mumsnet and it was great having all those channels but just impossibly expensive on my budget to keep when the trial ran out.

crossing everything

swallowedAfly · 10/09/2013 17:16

ds still laments the loss of cartoon network.

DorisShutt · 10/09/2013 17:17

pigsinmud · 10/09/2013 17:19

swallowedAfly · 10/09/2013 17:42

oh maybe schilke - i read it as mnhq saying no one had been contacted yet but would be 'this week' - bit Sad if that was false hope Grin

DorisShutt · 10/09/2013 17:54

swallowed I've PM'd you about your sky box. Hope it might be of some help Smile

pigsinmud · 10/09/2013 17:56

Swallowed - I understand false hope. Just got over excited at a mumsnet email...nothing interesting though!

pickofthepops · 10/09/2013 18:17

LaVitaBellissima · 10/09/2013 20:30

I'm in too, hopefully this will mean me saying goodbye to Virgin Grin

supermariossister · 10/09/2013 20:33

not in :( I'm interested to see the responses though as I'd still consider it if it was worth it

swallowedAfly · 10/09/2013 20:35

feeling a teeny bit bitter about people who can afford expensive satellite and cable services getting the boxes. grudging i know.

will keep an eye out for feedback threads.

MikeLitoris · 10/09/2013 21:21

Well it wouldnt be much of a test if they only gave them to people without sky or virgin would it?

They want to tempt people away from subscription services.
