We've been asked by the team at Freesat to find 15 UK Mumsnetters to try out a Freesat+ box with and to share their feedback on Mumsnet.

We're looking for folks who are keen to switch from their current TV provider or who want to add this box to another TV in their home. Testers should be in the UK and have at least one child at home.

Here's what they have to say: "Hello. We're freesat. We believe you shouldn't have to pay a monthly subscription to watch and listen to 180 channels of the best comedy, drama, sport, lifestyle, music and news. We offer free HD services from ITV, the BBC and Channel 4; freesat+ to record pause and rewind, BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Demand; and all subscription free."

Freesat launched last Autumn which includes a Roll Back TV Guide that allows you to watch programmes you've missed from the previous seven days across 21 channels, a new showcase section providing top TV picks chosen daily by Freesat's reviewers, on-demand services and enhanced recordings.

Freesat is a subscription free service and Freesat+ boxes are available to buy from a range of retailers - RRP from £226.

If you're selected to take part you will be sent a Humax 500GB Freesat+ with box worth £226.You will then need to try it and add feedback at least twice to a thread on Mumsnet. You'll be asked to add your first impressions and then to add extra feedback a week or two later to share what you've been watching, recording, pausing and how you and your family are finding Freesat.

There are some technical requirements for this product test:

  • You will need a satellite dish to install Freesat. If you already have a satellite dish you'll be asked to install the Freesat box at home. If you do not, a satellite dish will be fitted for you, but you must ensure that you have access and permission (if required)
  • You will also need access to the internet to access . The minimum speed required is 2mbps, you can test your speed here

If you'd like to take part please add your details here

So long as you add feedback as required you will be able to keep the box after testing is over.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

Done. We are also looking for a Sky alternative. They have dropped channels from certain packages so it keeps getting more expensive. Plus they put so many ads and repeats on, it's ridiculous.

Curlyfrizzball · 01/09/2013 15:32

I would love to try this. We are looking to change providers, just can't decide who to go with.

hunhun007 · 01/09/2013 18:00

This actually sounds great.
I wonder how it compares to freeview we currently have

pickofthepops · 01/09/2013 20:44

Have been without any tv since end of April (new house has no aerial) and have been trying to persuade DH to go for freesat not the huge expense of SKY. Also DS age five keen to see the dr who programmes for the 50th birthday year. And we've done the DVD collection at least twice each. Please choose us!

123bucklemyshoe · 01/09/2013 21:30

would love to try it!

moshmoshi · 01/09/2013 21:48

I've signed up. When do we find out if we've been chosen?

Poppysnoss · 02/09/2013 00:36

Looks great, fingers crossed we are chosen to try it out! Smile

catmadcaz · 02/09/2013 17:53

Sounds really good hope I get selected!!!

KareninsGirl · 02/09/2013 18:59

Hi there,
We are in the process of disconnecting from virgin and were going to get freesat so it'd be great if this could be done via MN!
Many thanks :)

ICanSeeTheSeaFromHere · 02/09/2013 19:45

We would love to try this. Having just moved house we are looking for ways to save money each month and feel Freesat would offer that instead of Sky tv etc. With three children the flexibility Freesat offers sounds fantastic.

bannedyellowsheep · 02/09/2013 22:13

Just done it!

maximum4 · 02/09/2013 22:21

We also have a poor signal and sky is currently the only option... Pick me!!

klm1702 · 02/09/2013 22:34

Definitely interested as looking to change from sky and are looking at bt vision. Definitely keen to find out what kids channels there are.

TeaJunky · 02/09/2013 23:12

Hi.

Im at home with a nine month old who loves the telly and I can make good use of this thing.

So please choose me Grin

Chot · 02/09/2013 23:57

Since moving back 'home', our choice is just Sky or freeview (we were on Virgin previously) - Sky is too pricey for what you get so we have been on freeview but the reception is poor so the picture is always clicking and flickering - it would be a dream to have a stable picture (to no longer miss the plot-turning conversation in a crime drama), eve when someone walked past the living room door!! We all watch different things so being able to record each of our favourites would mean fewer family disputes (no more the battle of CBeebies vs. Milkshake vs. CBBC!!) and would mean that Mummy might actually get to watch something she wants to watch when she wants to watch it!! ha ha - as if to demonstrate my point, I had just finished typing that when my 3 year old woke from a "baddie dream" - no idea what's happening on Taggart now!!!!

So please (please please please!!!!) do consider me / us to try the Freesat box!

mrsshackleton · 03/09/2013 16:03

Ooh, this would change our lives, dh bought a posh telly last year but the picture's flickered ever since to the point where it's unwatchable. We had the ariel changed at huuuuge expense and it still didn't work because - Samsung claim - the signal isn't strong enough. Strictly's coming up and we're desperate to be able to watch TV live again, on a proper screen, rather than a tiny iPad one. Sobs. Pleads. Begs. Grin

Doubtfuldaphne · 03/09/2013 20:09

I'm keeping everything crossed in the hope of getting this Humax box. We have rubbish tv here - it's so boring!

SirRaymondClench · 03/09/2013 20:15

I filled in the form earlier today!
Would crawl across fields of broken glass for a decent alternative to BT Vision. Please help me!!

supermariossister · 03/09/2013 21:46

sky price seems to be a massive factor for a lot of people including us. the price rises are pushing so many people elsewhere

jadenash2013 · 05/09/2013 09:17

Also done, We can only have sky in Camborne, cornwall so our choices are very limited with Sky packages increasing its likely we may have to make the sky cut sooner rather than later so a freesat box would be great! :-)

swallowedAfly · 05/09/2013 20:36

CLOSED - so have the people selected been contacted? still hope or done and dusted please?

MummyBtothree · 06/09/2013 09:47

Anyone been contacted yet? if only to put me out of my misery!

pickofthepops · 06/09/2013 10:38

Not heard and we are all crossing fingers toes and everything else. Good luck to us all!
