We've been asked by the team at YouView to find 20 UK Mumsnetters to try out a YouView box and to share their feedback on Mumsnet.

We're looking for folks who are keen to switch from their current TV provider or who want to add this box to another TV in their home. Testers should be in the UK and have at least one child at home.

YouView say "YouView is a subscription-free television service which seamlessly combines live and catch-up television. The service offers over 70 free to air channels and radio stations via a TV aerial and also connects to any broadband service to bring catch-up and on demand programmes directly to your TV. The TV service, which launched in July 2012, is backed by BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, BT, TalkTalk and Arqiva"

You can get YouView free as part of a broadband subscription from BT or TalkTalk (activation / installation fees may apply) or to buy from all major retailers and many independent electrical stores - RRP from £299.

There are some technical requirements for this product test:

~ To set up a YouView set-top box you need to connect it to your TV via a HDMI cable or SCART lead, to your TV aerial and to your broadband router via an Ethernet cable

~ If your router is more than 2 metres from your box you'll need a longer Ethernet cable than provided or will need to use a powerline adapter.

~ A minimum broadband speed of 3Mb/s and an unlimited data allowance from your broadband supplier is recommended.

YouView also say "The service has pause, rewind, fast-forward and record functionality for live TV giving you more flexibility when enjoying your favourite TV programmes. We also offer the option to record one show while watching another, gives reminders to let you know a programme is about to start and has up to 300 hours (500GB) of storage space for your programme recordings in MyView"

Please read all about YouView here

Before you apply please ensure you check your details here - checker.youview.com/ to ensure you can receive the YouView service at home and check you have unlimited broadband as this is recommended.

If you're selected to take part you will be sent a YouView Humax DTR T1000 box worth c£299 - you'll be asked to install it at home, try it and add feedback at least twice to a thread on Mumsnet. You'll be asked to add your first impressions and then to add extra feedback a week or two later to share what you've been watching, recording, pausing and how you and your family are finding YouView. We'll also ask you to add a review to the reviews area on Mumsnet.

If you'd like to take part please add your details here

So long as you add feedback as required you will be able to keep the box.

Thanks and good luck

Yes please. Cancelled our Sky + when we moved last month and missing the pause/record massively. 4 children and constant arguing over what to watch is leading me to madness. That and the fact that I manage to miss everything I want to watch.

I'm trying to compute my chances, LovelyAndGorgeousAnnMumsnet, how many testers are needrd?

[adorable smile]

Tee2072 · 26/02/2013 11:48

Chaos, my lovely...it says in the first sentence. 20.

IncogKNEEto · 26/02/2013 11:50

Yes please, have filled in survey. Would be very interested to compare and contrast with Sky, which we currently use.

Ooo me pretty please Grin I only have a crappy free view box that doesn't work half the time. My main mission in life it to fast forward through an add break at least once Grin

Tee2072 · 26/02/2013 12:10

Grin Ann.

::strokes Chaos' hair::

InMySpareTime · 26/02/2013 12:12

Me! Me! Oh, pick me! Grin
We have fetch TV and since the company was sold the service has been dire! We can sometimes get iplayer but never 4od and it usually records programmes we set to record but not always.
I would love to try a reliable TV service.

NotADragonOfSoup · 26/02/2013 12:17

Apparently my broadband speed is 18.89Mb/s :)

And, rather conveniently, I need some kind of box for the new TV in the playroom...

PeneloPeePitstop · 26/02/2013 12:28

Balls.

I don't have an aerial.

BoysWillGrow · 26/02/2013 12:30

Me please,
it's like you guys knew I'd brought a new tv this weekend hmmm....
Your not watching me are you? Hmm

akaemmafrost · 26/02/2013 12:30

Me please! Having to cancel sky as can't afford and with two SN children explaining why no Nick Jr anymore isn't going to be pretty.

MarmaladeTwatkins · 26/02/2013 12:32

Me please!

Am debating leaving Virgin (on medium package without Youview box for £39 a month but they are offering new customers package with Youview box for £25 Angry) to switch to Sky, whose package includes a Youview box. Would be good to try one out beforehand.

scaredysquirrel · 26/02/2013 12:41

ooh pick me! Im also considering leaving Virgin - quite crap and expensive too, but need an alternative.

misspamela · 26/02/2013 12:41

OOO me please. We're looking at changing our tele provider. Be ace to be able to check this out.

NotADragonOfSoup · 26/02/2013 12:41

Mind you, I've just realised I have no idea where my TV aerial points are.

hobnob57 · 26/02/2013 12:48

I'm curious to try one of these. We renewed our BT broadband and Vision in Jan without realising that the new thing was out there to try. I am wondering if we have been duped by BT by them not suggesting a YouView subscription instead?

MrsStripey · 26/02/2013 12:52

Me please :-)

Yorky · 26/02/2013 13:18

Fingers crossed!

Ladyjaxo · 26/02/2013 13:25

Fingers crossed too been seeing the adverts everywhere :-)

Nooneelseisallowedafergus · 26/02/2013 13:26

Please pick me, I never 'win' anything! And would really love to try this product and save a fortune on monthly sky subscriptions!!

florencebabyjo · 26/02/2013 13:47

This would be great as battles with 5 children and a husband in the house at the same time are not pretty! Would be lovely to record one of my programs for a change! Have 5.2 Mb internet speed, hurrah, so fingers crossed.

Jumbs · 26/02/2013 13:53

Oh, I would love to try this! We live in a semi rural area where there is no cable availability and I don't wish to pay for Sky. Would love to have access to catch up tv and on demand services both for my self and the kids.

We have sufficient broadband speed and can meet the other technical requirements.
