AnnMumsnet · 26/02/2013 11:26

We've been asked by the team at YouView to find 20 UK Mumsnetters to try out a YouView box and to share their feedback on Mumsnet.

We're looking for folks who are keen to switch from their current TV provider or who want to add this box to another TV in their home. Testers should be in the UK and have at least one child at home.

YouView say "YouView is a subscription-free television service which seamlessly combines live and catch-up television. The service offers over 70 free to air channels and radio stations via a TV aerial and also connects to any broadband service to bring catch-up and on demand programmes directly to your TV. The TV service, which launched in July 2012, is backed by BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, BT, TalkTalk and Arqiva"

You can get YouView free as part of a broadband subscription from BT or TalkTalk (activation / installation fees may apply) or to buy from all major retailers and many independent electrical stores - RRP from £299.

There are some technical requirements for this product test:

~ To set up a YouView set-top box you need to connect it to your TV via a HDMI cable or SCART lead, to your TV aerial and to your broadband router via an Ethernet cable

~ If your router is more than 2 metres from your box you'll need a longer Ethernet cable than provided or will need to use a powerline adapter.

~ A minimum broadband speed of 3Mb/s and an unlimited data allowance from your broadband supplier is recommended.

YouView also say "The service has pause, rewind, fast-forward and record functionality for live TV giving you more flexibility when enjoying your favourite TV programmes. We also offer the option to record one show while watching another, gives reminders to let you know a programme is about to start and has up to 300 hours (500GB) of storage space for your programme recordings in MyView"

Please read all about YouView here

Before you apply please ensure you check your details here - checker.youview.com/ to ensure you can receive the YouView service at home and check you have unlimited broadband as this is recommended.

If you're selected to take part you will be sent a YouView Humax DTR T1000 box worth c£299 - you'll be asked to install it at home, try it and add feedback at least twice to a thread on Mumsnet. You'll be asked to add your first impressions and then to add extra feedback a week or two later to share what you've been watching, recording, pausing and how you and your family are finding YouView. We'll also ask you to add a review to the reviews area on Mumsnet.

If you'd like to take part please add your details here

So long as you add feedback as required you will be able to keep the box.

Thanks and good luck

Have submitted our application and would jump at the chance to record something to watch myself when all are asleep/ and also what each of my 5 children would like let alone poor DP who rarely gets a look in! We have never had anything like this and would definitely reduce television arguments in our house!

reformedgeek · 03/03/2013 14:12

I'd love to test this - I have a 60mb Virgin media connection and would love to give it a test drive! Especially in the bedroom where the 2nd TV is.

IloveJudgeJudy · 04/03/2013 01:33

We should also like to test this. Have submitted application.

The more I look at my Sky bill, the more I like the idea of youview. Have filled in form and am keeping everything crossed!!

exiledmancityfan · 04/03/2013 16:30

We've got one apparently - email this morning!

Tee2072 · 05/03/2013 12:14

::grumpy::

Is the fact I live in NI? Is that why I never get the really cool product tests?

::grumpy::

ThePortlyPinUp · 05/03/2013 12:27

Eeeeek we've just got the email, I'm going to look into the wifi option as I do have a long enough Ethernet cable but I have a house rabbit so no cables is a lot easier :)

hairtwiddler · 05/03/2013 12:52

We're getting one! Very excited!

northcoastmum · 05/03/2013 13:01

V excited to be getting one (and am in NI!) I'd also prefer to connect wirelessly, will a power adaptor be supplied as standard, or just the Ethernet cable?

exiledmancityfan · 05/03/2013 13:08

grumpy too. I never get the good ones Envy

ItsallisnowaFeegle · 05/03/2013 13:44

Shock Argh!!! I got one too! GrinGrin

I love MN! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Can't wait to report back!

Fillybuster · 05/03/2013 14:55

Tee, I don't think the NI bit is the problem....I'm in London centre of the world and didn't get chosen either :(

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 05/03/2013 14:57

I haven't been chosen for a product test for ages

I think my old name was luckier
Maybe I should change back

Well done all you chosen ones!

HappySunflower · 05/03/2013 15:33

So, it's just us then, eh, Filly. Sad

I'm kidding! Congrats to all the winners!

AwkwardAnnie · 05/03/2013 17:52

Squee, so chuffed. At last I'll be able to see the start, middle, and end of programmes. Thankyou MN, this made my day. :)

IncogKNEEto · 05/03/2013 20:11

Thank you Smile I never get chosen for things, very chuffed! This has made my day too Awkward.

youviewyahoo · 05/03/2013 20:51

Delighted to have been chosen for this.

Looking forward to our television viewing entering the 21st century - haven't been able to record anything since the old video cassette player broke down around 6 years ago!

And no more Top Gear v Call the Midwife on a Sunday night!

The whole family (yes, all 6 of us) eagerly await the arrival of YouView. SmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

Thank You Mumsnet!

Chocolateporridge · 06/03/2013 12:39

Thank you so much mumsnet, we're so pleased to be chosen! This will give us the incentive we need to get off our butts and change our supplier and save some cash Grin

shhhgobacktosleep · 06/03/2013 13:02

Grin ours has just been delivered. Anyone else think the office junior had been let loose with the Sellotape dispenser gun Grin Had to actually get Mr gobacktosleep involved to break through to the boxes. He's hoping to set it up this evening after work.

RobotHamster · 06/03/2013 13:09

We've recently bought one of these - would I be able to add to the feedback thread anyway?
