We've been asked by the team at YouView to find 20 UK Mumsnetters to try out a YouView box and to share their feedback on Mumsnet.

We're looking for folks who are keen to switch from their current TV provider or who want to add this box to another TV in their home. Testers should be in the UK and have at least one child at home.

YouView say "YouView is a subscription-free television service which seamlessly combines live and catch-up television. The service offers over 70 free to air channels and radio stations via a TV aerial and also connects to any broadband service to bring catch-up and on demand programmes directly to your TV. The TV service, which launched in July 2012, is backed by BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, BT, TalkTalk and Arqiva"

You can get YouView free as part of a broadband subscription from BT or TalkTalk (activation / installation fees may apply) or to buy from all major retailers and many independent electrical stores - RRP from £299.

There are some technical requirements for this product test:

~ To set up a YouView set-top box you need to connect it to your TV via a HDMI cable or SCART lead, to your TV aerial and to your broadband router via an Ethernet cable

~ If your router is more than 2 metres from your box you'll need a longer Ethernet cable than provided or will need to use a powerline adapter.

~ A minimum broadband speed of 3Mb/s and an unlimited data allowance from your broadband supplier is recommended.

YouView also say "The service has pause, rewind, fast-forward and record functionality for live TV giving you more flexibility when enjoying your favourite TV programmes. We also offer the option to record one show while watching another, gives reminders to let you know a programme is about to start and has up to 300 hours (500GB) of storage space for your programme recordings in MyView"

Please read all about YouView here

Before you apply please ensure you check your details here - checker.youview.com/ to ensure you can receive the YouView service at home and check you have unlimited broadband as this is recommended.

If you're selected to take part you will be sent a YouView Humax DTR T1000 box worth c£299 - you'll be asked to install it at home, try it and add feedback at least twice to a thread on Mumsnet. You'll be asked to add your first impressions and then to add extra feedback a week or two later to share what you've been watching, recording, pausing and how you and your family are finding YouView. We'll also ask you to add a review to the reviews area on Mumsnet.

If you'd like to take part please add your details here

So long as you add feedback as required you will be able to keep the box.

Thanks and good luck

MNHQ

Please consider me we have been looking just last week at the Youview package available through our Broadband internet provider BT and are considering upgrading to include it in our package- it would be brilliant to try it beforehand. We are a busy family of 5 all interested in different things from sport to History to Childrens TV to soaps dramas etc would be brill to be able to pause and rewind live TV and be able to catch up on favourites.
Please would you be able to check that my survey has gone through as I seemed to get logged out in the middle of it and then I didn't receive the usual acknowlegement after I sent it. Thankyou so much Smile

TheTiger · 26/02/2013 21:01

I've applied... Please pick me!! Smile

chocolateshoes · 26/02/2013 21:02

iclaudius · 26/02/2013 21:05

aPseudonymToFoolHim · 26/02/2013 21:14

Please add me to the "Me please!" list. :)

i've done the checker thing, and it says my internet is suitable

TheToadLessTravelled · 26/02/2013 22:06

Count me in!
Need a cheaper alternative to our horrendously expensive Sky subscription :-(

blondieminx · 26/02/2013 22:41

Would love to try this ...but we're in an Internet backwater with "not fast enough" speed according to that checker thingy.

Gah.

meala · 26/02/2013 22:50

OOh, sounds great.

LiveItUp · 26/02/2013 23:01

All done - this would be fab.

MNHQ - Ann (if you're still on duty at this hour) I filled in the form and at the end it just dumped me unceremoniously back at the products tests homepage - no message about "Thanks for completing" etc. Please could you check if it arrived safely as I would REALLY like to be considered for this one!

Tw1nkle · 27/02/2013 07:49

ooohhhh - I'd love this - and we could finally get rid of Sky!!!

AnnMumsnet · 27/02/2013 07:51

YouView say "Any broadband provider can be connected to the box and it comes with an Ethernet cable or we can supply powerline adaptors which will allow the box to be connected to the broadband router wirelessly."

Would so love to take part as I never catch the programmes I want to watch, but it says we have some digital channels unavailable Sad Does this disqualify us?

TequilaMockinBird · 27/02/2013 09:18

Oooh pick me, pick me

Would love to find a cheaper replacement for Sky!

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 27/02/2013 09:36

Kiriwawa · 27/02/2013 11:19

Thanks for finding out Ann. I will throw my hat into the ring (ever hopeful :o)

Mabelface · 27/02/2013 11:36

Signed up! With teens in the house, we like to watch some things a bit later once they've gone to bed, so we have some peace. Catch up is our friend, apart from the fact we have to use the only working laptop in the house to view it. Oh, and we can't get sky as we're in a dip surrounded by trees, which is a right arse.
