Q1 What was your overall impression of the Method Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?
I liked the compact container, the no-mess squirt dispenser, the overall appearance of the packaging, and the green credentials of the product.

Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?
It seems very thin and I find it hard to believe it is as concentrated as it claims. I also think it needs some kind of colour to it - the first time I used it I must've squirted 5 or 6 squirts before I realised it was actually already coming out - I was expecting a thicker, coloured liquid. It's not always easy to tell if you've managed to get it in the drawer or not! I also don't think it does as many washes as it claims.

Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?
Fragrance was fine but nothing special.

Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not?
Yes, if they were looking for something that was specifically eco-friendly. I wouldn't recommend it above other brands to someone who wasn't bothered about this though.

  1. My overall impression was good. I was particularly impressed by the size of the bottle & I wondered if it really would contain as many washes as the large box of powder & bottle of fabric softener I usually use but it did & I actually got approx 30 washes.
  2. I would possibly change the fragrance or perhaps have more prions available.
  3. The fragrance in the bottle was slightly chemical but on the washing once it was washed & dried it just smelt clean. I didn't mind this on clothing but I prefer my towels & sheets to have a scent but this was easily remedied with fabric softener. The cleaning power was as good as the product I currently used. I also tried a small bit neat on stains before washing & this also worked as well as the stain remover I use.
  4. I would recommend this product to other people especially due to the size. It's cleaning power was as good as other products & it is far easier to transport & store.

Q1, My overall impression of the product has been excellent, I love the colourful packaging and how small the bottle is. It sits quite happily in my kitchen.

Q2, I would have preferred a different scent but otherwise it's perfect.

Q3, the cleaning power is great, I was dubious but I will buy again if it's well priced. I thought it smelt too strongly of chemicals but this is a small concern.

Q4, I would recommend this product to friends and family.
Thank you

Have to say that after a few weeks of using the liquid, that it has something negative in common with some of the other ECO brands that I've tried, especially ones that are soya based. It fades my black clothes and seems to make my jumpers crunchy in a strange way. I stopped using another brand of eco detergent because of how hard it was on my clothes and this seems to have the same properties. That is why I would not buy it again. Do still love the design and the rest of the method line!

mamof3boys · 14/12/2012 23:43

Q1 What was your overall impression of the Method Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?
I was initially surprised at how small it was. I'm used to buying massive boxes of powder so this was great as it takes up a lot less space. The bottle design isn't very eye catching. It's not in front of me now and I can't really remember what it looks like. I don't think I'd be able to pick it our on a supermarket shelf if I'd forgotten the name. It is a great product though, and the fact that it is environmentally friendly can only be a good thing.

Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?
I would make the bottle more eye catching so that it stands out. I also feel that the price is a bit too high. I look for the most economical product at the moment so unless this was on special offer I'd be unlikely to buy it.

Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?
I really liked the fragrance. My clothes smelled very fresh after they'd been washed but it wasn't too strong. The cleaning power is very good. I've got 3 young boys who seem to attract mud and this cleaned them very well. We went away last weekend and after a long walk the boys clothes were caked with mud. I used 4 squirts of Method and the clothes came out like new. I was very impressed.

Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not?
I would recommend as the cleaning power is really good and I like the compact bottle. It was also very easy to use and I like that it can be applied directly to stains. My biggest issue is with the price.

goingmadinthecountry · 15/12/2012 09:20

I like the bottle - simple and not garish in any way. Takes up less space in the cupboard. Also like not having to use a separated ball/lid. Less chance of spilling anything.

Nothing I disliked.

Just asked dh what he thought - he's being doing lots of laundry recently - he said he really likes the fragrance and the fact it's so easy to use. We just whack it in the drum of the washer because I never know which drawer to use!

Yes I'd recommend it if it came up in a conversation. Lots of strong detergents make me sneeze but this doesn't.

Indith · 15/12/2012 09:42

Now that I'm getting closer to the bottom of the bottle can I add 2 things please.

  1. the pump system is very good with the little lining up indicator so you can always get a full squirt.

  2. it would be good to have a clear bit of bottle to see how much there is left so you don't get caught out!

Indith · 15/12/2012 09:43

Oh and for all converts, refills are on offer with ethical superstore at the moment, £10.49!

Sparklingbrook · 15/12/2012 09:44

There was 20% off in Homebase so I treated myself to another bottle. Smile

nextphase · 15/12/2012 10:12

Ok, one week in (DH didn't use it), I'm still concerned about the ease of toddler emptying the bottle if they got their hands on it - there is no shut off I can see, but Indith seems to say there is a twist off mechanism, - that needs to be made clearer, 'cause even with looking at the bottle knowing it should be there, I can't see it!

BUT, since we have started using it, NO clothes have had to go back in the wash. Thats a first. Need a bit longer to see if they boys dry skin is due to washing liquid change or temperature change.

I would amend my comments on not buying it again to I'd buy it on offer, or a refill if that came in slightly cheaper per wash.

Indith · 15/12/2012 11:17

next it isn't twist off but you can line it up so as you get to the bottom you still get full squirts. you are right though a twist off would be good but at least bottle size means easy to keep out of reach.

Sugarkane · 15/12/2012 11:27

Q1 I loved the pump and overall t was quite good
Q2 Maybe the smell
Q3 The smell reminded me of the washing power you buy on holiday, it was ok but a bit chemical. Overall it cleaned my washing well but did struggle on a few deep stains
Q4 I would recommend the pump, I think its great but not sure about the liquid itself, the chemical smell and poor performance on deep stains let it down

missmuddle · 15/12/2012 12:25

Just to add have done a few washes but my dhs skin seems to have reacted, so I have had to start rewashing his clothes in my usual powder

maxybrown · 15/12/2012 13:50

yes a see through bottle would be good I agree! I am loving the no mess

RunnersTipple · 15/12/2012 14:18
  1. I liked the compact bottle and very easy to use pump action (DH managed to use it too, so a definite bonus there!). No mess at all using and there's something very satisfying about squirting it straight into the drum. Easily pleased. One of my DS has quite sensitive skin, and I haven't noticed any reaction at all.
  2. Found the smell somewhat overpowering.
  3. Linked to previous question, I found the smell somewhat overpowering compared to my usual liquid. The cleaning power was certainly no worse than my usual brand, but I'm not sure that it was any better. It didn't get out pen stains on DS's school shirt, but then again nothing has yet. I squirted some direct onto a blood stain and it almost removed it.
  4. Would I recommend it? Probably, based on ease of use, size of bottle (especially as I see from comments above that it is refillable) and eco credentials. Would I buy it again? Probably, especially if on offer or saw a refill in the supermarket. Not sure I could be bothered to search out refills online.

Thanks for the opportunity to try it.

TheProvincialLady · 15/12/2012 18:08

OK I've been using Method all week and here are my observations:

What was your overall impression of the Methon Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump? I liked the pump, though it took me a while to work out how to use it as I didn't twist far enough to open it. It is a very clean way of delivering the liquid - normally laundry liquids make a mess everywere but this doesn't. I hope there are refills available though, as it would be wasteful to buy a new pump every time.

Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid? I didn't think the bottle was particularly beautiful, as I had been led to suppose it would be very special. But the bottle is good, it's just the outer packaging that is a bit dull.

What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power? I realy didn't like it at first, especially when it was in the washing machine drawer. I'm still not keen TBH. It smells a bit chemically and not enough like clean laundry. It's a strong smell that overpowers the fabric conditioner I used later in the week. It cleaned very well though - I was impressed.

If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not? I couldn't recommend the product because of the smell, but I would say that it cleaned well and that I liked the dispenser.

One thing - I really, really dislike the 'house style' on the accompanying letter - no capital letters at the beginning of sentences or for I. I like to deal with companies I can trust and who treat me like an intelligent adult, and that letter was a big fail on both fronts. It looked childish and I couldn't take it seriously as a result.

Havingkitties · 15/12/2012 22:35

Q1. Really liked the design and ease of use of the bottle. Makes it space saving in the cupboard and also easy to take travelling, with spills less likely. Fun to use (for a detergent!). Likes the smell. However not good at getting food stains out and as I have just started weaning, everything continued to have orange stains on it (though strangely enough managed to get red wine out, so its fine for mummy stains just not baby stains!). Loved the fact you could vary how much you use depending on what load you had. Though I tended to use the maximum amount of pumps and stick an extra one in the prewash too
Q2. Would be good to know if I was meant to put a squirt in the prewash compartment. Wish it would be better at getting food marks out.
Q3. Fragrance was quite strong when it was drying but wore off clothes gradually. I quite like the 'laundromat' smell to it, I like my clothes to smell washed. I found that the performance varied. I wish it had worked better on biological stains as its a great idea, but I don't have time to soak before, or stuff just one item in the wash at a time to get it in quick before the stain sets so for this reason I won't be using this again.
Q4. I would recommend it over fairy non-bio if someone was just looking for a non bio as its do easy to use and I love the bottle but it doesn't have the performance of a bio liquid so its a no for weaning babies. Shame because I really do like the concept and everything else about it.

aristocat · 16/12/2012 12:30

Well after my initial feedback I needed to return here and say how much I love this. My first problem was a stain that did not wash out but has since (after several washes/soaks) and I like the size and shape of the bottle very much.

I do often have trouble getting a full squirt out, it is more of a splutter sometimes - perhaps thats just me ......

Elfontheshelfiswatchingyou · 16/12/2012 12:48

My local Sainsbury's has Method in stock. They do a more scented one I'm going to try and they have refills for £14 that look like they would last forever. I'm going to keep my eyes open for an offer though, as Surcare (my usual brand) is so much cheaper.

Q1 What was your overall impression of the Methon Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?
Liked the small size, it takes up far less space and it'd easier to dispense the liquid than my usual brand.

Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?
Are refills available? They would save on a lot of recycling and also possibly be cheaper?

Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?
Smells lovely, although I always use double doses of softener too - love fragrant washing! It cleans at least as well, and I think probably better than my usual non-bio liquid. I used 6 squirts rather than 4 as I have an 8kg load machine - not sure if that was teh right thing to do?

Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not?
Yes, I would. It was small and convenient to use, and cleans well. There was no wastage or mess either, I always find my usual bulky bottle has sticky drips all down the side. I like the eco aspect too.

WineGless · 16/12/2012 21:56

Q1 What was your overall impression of the Methon Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?
I really liked the packaging. The pump dispenser is brilliant to use and much less mess with not drips.
Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?
The price
Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?
I thought it washed very well. DD has eczema and it hasn't irritated her skin.
I can't comment on the fragrance as I use fabric conditioner so it overrides any washing liquid smells
Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not?
I would highly recommend but I do think at £6 for a bottle its a wee bit too pricey.

cutie101 · 16/12/2012 22:28

Hello again,
After a couple of successful washes and then coming back here last week having found method stained my husbands shirt, I have done some more washes with it this weekend and it has left marks on yet more clothes. I am not very happy as have had to now throw 4 of my husbands work shirts and or bedding set away as I can't shift the marks and I have a few more items of clothing I may will also have to throw away. This test and review has ended up costing me over £200 in clothing and bedding I am throwing away. I can't find an email address to write directly to so I hope someone will contact me about this, and this is a warning to anyone using it...it seems to be on the 100% cotton items. Be warned

Rara27 · 17/12/2012 09:50

Q1 What was your overall impression of the Method Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?
I really wanted to like this, but not for us. It took 12 pumps, to actually feel my clothes had been washed. Perhaps having a large load machine and very hard water did not help. My daughter has eczema and she has complained of itchy skin aswell. The pump was good though, no mess!

Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?
Not really sure what to say to that one.

Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?
I did not really like the fragrance, and smell didn't last long after it being washed. Cleaning power was not great either, after 2 washes it still did not get mud and pen/paint out of school shirts (60 degree white wash) or mud from football kit, or ketchup from my youngest's tshirts Sad

Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not?
No I wouldn't recommend, because it did not work as expected for us, but it seems to have been fab for most!
