Q1 What was your overall impression of the Methon Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?
The pump is great - very easy to use and so simple to remember the 4 pumps to a load. BUT it needs a toddler lock on it - as it is it's far too easy for my son to think "oh that looks like fun" and have a play with it - it may be "non-toxic" but you still need to keep it from being so easily accessible to children.
Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?
I would like some more information. Even when I looked on the website I couldn't work out if the product was non-bio and/or suitable for sensitive skin - it talks a lot about its eco and non-toxic credentials etc but it doesn't actually say that it's suitable for sensitive skin (pretty much the only reason that I'm interested in buying an eco-friendly brand!). So I had to look really hard at the list of ingredients and when I looked at some of their other products for the skin and noticed sodium lauryl sulfate on there marked as "low skin irritation" I'm afraid I totally lost confidence as SLS is such a well known irritant especially for excema sufferers etc. I have used it on my clothes and found it a little irritating - especially in underwear - I'm still using it on my husband's clothes (he's got hardier skin than the rest of us!) but I have rewashed anything that I washed for myself or my children with my usual soap nuts (hence the name!). It's a shame they couldn't go the full way and make it naturally gentle as well as eco friendly. I also found the information wasn't clear and if I have to put that much effort into working out if it's ok for my family I just wouldn't bother in the supermarket.

Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?
To me it was quite a strong fragrance (but I'm coming from using soapnut liquid which has no fragrance at all). The fragrance was definitely an improvement on the strong chemical smell of most "normal" detergents and fabric conditioners (which make me gag!) but it was still a little stronger than I would like - however it wasn't overpowering so that alone wouldn't put me off. The cleaning power was fine but to be honest it's not an improvement on my soap nuts so I'll be going back to my usual I'm afraid. I will admit that I use other products in the range though - I like the multi-surface cleaner as that's not something that comes in direct contact with my skin (I wear gloves) as it's a better option than the normal stuff but it's a shame they havent convinced me that they've gone all the way towards "natural".
Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not? It depends who it was. If it was someone who used normal detergent and was looking for something less toxic, I'd probably say I'd tried it and it was nice but if it was someone looking for a skin-friendly option I can't say that I'd recommend.

Q1 What was your overall impression of the Method Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?
It worked very well and was really simple to use. Normally use powder, which can make a bit of a mess around the box & washing machine, so this was a nice improvement. I also liked the accuracy of dispensing - no estimating, as with using powder.
However I did need quite a lot as we (1) live in a very hard water area (2) have a washing machine with a larger than average drum capacity & (3) had fairly dirty washing (baby sick & also poo in the case of cloth nappies). This meant I used 7-8 pumps each time, which has used up the bottle pretty quickly. The first time I tried it, the washing smelled musty & odd afterwards - this was solved by using more pumps each time, and also putting one pump into the softener section of the washing machine drawer.

Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?
A larger bottle - as above, we've needed more pumps than average & so it's pretty low after a few weeks' use (in comparison, I expect to buy a big box of powder every few months).

Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?
I really liked the fragrance - pleasant but not over powering. The cleaning power was great so long as I used 7-8 pumps with one in the softener drawer to make sure it did smell nice afterwards.

Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not?
Possibly - I love the eco-friendly/lack of harsh chemicals element & it is effective, but I would run out quickly & so it's an expensive option for me.

VeganCow · 13/12/2012 13:05

  1. overall impression was that it was compact, tidy and easy to use with pump dispenser;
  2. it is quite pricey at £6
  3. did not notice fragrance much to be honest
  4. would recommend as cleans well, Eco- friendly and probably less likely to irritate skin, but would mention the price of course

Q1 What was your overall impression of the Methon Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?
Very good, I like the pump squirt action. I'm a lazy washer so anything that makes the whole washing process quicker is good for me!

Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?
The price, too expensive

Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?
It's ok, bit chemically. Cleaned ok.

Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not?
Not sure if I would ever have a conversation about laundry liquids!

Baconsarnie · 13/12/2012 17:16

Thought bottle was neat, certainly too up less space than my usual washing liquid. Didn't feel right somehow just doing 4 or 6 squirts into the drawer so I definitely gave it a few more squirts for luck! Liked the smell, and happy with the cleaning power, though I didnt tackle any really dirty loads. Would definitely recommend to others, depending on the price. Though the repeating to over squirt is strong!

RarelyUnreasonable · 13/12/2012 17:34

Q1 It looks good and smells good, like other Method stuff. I love the size as we have no room to store bulky boxes of powder.
Q2 Nope, love it as much as I could love any laundry product Hmm.
Q3 Works on toddler snot and baby poo-namis. What more could you want? Hate overly scented, chemically products so the subtle scent pleases me.
Q4 I would, especially to friends who are also into eco-friendly products. I'd wait for it to come up in conversation rather than being evangelical about it.

Sokmonsta · 13/12/2012 20:06

Q1 What was your overall impression of the Methon Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?

Overall I was impressed with the design of packaging. It was a neat little bottle and took up barely any space. I didn't like the lock function on the bottle. It was easy enough to use and once I'd got my aim right, not too messy to dispense. I liked the ethos behind the company as our household is 2 adults, 4 children and we're always trying to find new ways to reduce our waste. I'm not convinced it would last 25 average washes. I've used it once for stain treatment and done 16ish washes. I doubt there's another 8 (assuming more stain pretreatment left.)

Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?
^I'd like the lock function on the bottle to be changed. You had to depress it to twist and lock. This was irritating when I'd put enough liquid in for a load as I then had to depress another squirt to lock, which was wasteful imo. Also, when I did remember, the pump leaked liquid out as I was turning it so I still had to hold it over the drawer. I felt this meant I was using more liquid than I needed to. I know I could have left the bottle unlocked, but this would be an accident waiting to happen in our house.

It is also a little pricey for me. I think that the option for the bottle to be refillable, to both save money and also to support the green ideal of the company would be a good idea.^

Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?
the scent was lovely - clean and fruity. Cleaning power was average. It fared no worse on baby poop/weaning stains than other more traditional chemical liquids/powders. I didn't find it very effective as a pre-wash stain treatment, I still had to rewash with a different stain remover. But this wouldn't overly concern me as it might be the nature of the stain rather than the product. Dd's white socks and dt's white bibs came out a really crisp white.

Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not?
With a change to the pump lock design I'd certainly recommend it if asked for my opinion. Otherwise I would have to say it could be messy and wasteful. Cost would also be a factor in recommending it although if someone said it's on offer, what did I think, I'd say try it. As a regular purchase, even for the most environmentally conscious, initial cost and repeat outlay would have to be considered versus other products which are frequently on offer. When it comes to the scent, there is no comparison so if that were the only factor in choosing a laundry product I would have no hesitation in recommending it.

SuzySheepSmellsNice · 13/12/2012 20:27

Q1 - overall impression: I really liked it, the clothes came up really fresh and clean (I tried a variety of different clothes on different wash settings oh the joys of having a toddler! and it came up trumps every time) and I really liked the small super-concentrated size... I am fed up with massive detergent bottles!
Q2 - what would I change? Nothing really, I loved the pump idea and it worked really well.
Q3 - fragrance/cleaning power: fragrance was nice, and it even managed to miraculously clean my well worn slippers :)
Q4 - would I recommend it? Yes, its environmentally friendly, space-saving and works well. Thanks for sending me the sample!

Just saying... I had an email saying the company were sending us something as an apology for their error of sending us the French bottles without a translation... I haven't received anything and its been ages Hmm

ViperInTheManger · 13/12/2012 20:52

I posted my feedback upthread which was all positiv-ish but have since noticed a couple of greasy marks on items once they were dried. I took one of the worst pre-treated it with neat liquid then washed again using Method. The marks remained. I whacked it in another load with Ariel and the marks appear to have come off.

Also have noticed my machine smelling rather musty which I know is a problem with washing liquids, this one being no exception.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 13/12/2012 22:18

First off, thank you for sending me free washing liquid! Much appreciated Smile

Q1 What was your overall impression of the Method Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?
I love how small it is! Anything that makes my shopping lighter to carry home and my cupboards slightly less crammed is good with me. We have used some Method products in the past (DH is a little obsessed with them) and weren't disappointed by this new addition.

Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?
Apart from printing the instructions in English, Wink I think I'd like a slightly 'cleaner' smell.

Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?
Cleaning power was good. It effectively washed some sicky baby clothes and DH's walking socks (no mean feat) and was easy to use. To be honest, I'd prefer a slightly stronger smell. I like that 'just washed' scent that you get from Fairy and similar.

Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not?
I would definitely mention how small the pack was and how impressed I was with it. I'd also mention the eco credentials (some friends would be more impressed with this than others) Only draw back is the cost.

millie19 · 13/12/2012 22:29

If anyone who tested this Method product is interested, Waitrose has got 2 scented bottles of Method washing liquid in same bottles on offer for £4.65 reduced from £6.00...

millie19 · 13/12/2012 22:30

2 different scents in same style bottles

MissEleanorLavish · 13/12/2012 23:23

I've ordered a refill pack from ocado tonight.£14 for (apparently) 85 washes (should last me a week or so) and it came in 2 fragrances. Am trying to work out if that's better than the waitrose offer or not (although this way I can reuse my pump...)

GoodKingWenSOLOslas · 13/12/2012 23:29

Good reminder SuzySheep though with Christmas and all, it could be delayed!

HardKnottPass · 13/12/2012 23:32
  1. Great product. loved it. gigsdat bottle shape and loved the a pump which made it really easy to use. even let the children have a go as I knew they couldn't spillj it. Now just need to show them how to choose the settings. can't believe it is so concentrated. bottle looked smart so was happy to leave it out on the side.
2. would make it refillable or larger bottles.
  1. Smelled lovely, subtle not fake and chemical flowers. Cleaned extremely well. worked great on some very loads.
  2. would highly recommend it. a little expensive but great product.
BLOO3Z · 14/12/2012 08:52

Clothes smell nice I am impressed so far, and would recommend it for anyone who has a septic tank as no horrid ingreidents in it.
It would have to be reasonably priced for me to buy it.
I do like the small size of the bottle, easy to store and carry home.

mrsgordonfreeman · 14/12/2012 09:12

Q1 What was your overall impression of the Methon Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?

I liked the neat bottle and the design. It looks like a premium product. The four pumps are enough, but it is hard at first to accept that four pumps is all you need. You have to re train yourself a bit. I also liked the way the brand is positioned, as a small and friendly company rather than the massive conglomerates behind major laundry powder brands.

Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?

No, I think it's a nice product with a good usp. It doesn't look like anything else on the shelf. It also takes up far less room in my kitchen.

Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?

I liked the fragrance. It was very pleasant and subtle, smelling 'clean' rather than of perfume. I am not a big fan of highly fragranced products.

Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not?

I would recommend it, but I would reassure them that the small amount suggested on the packaging is sufficient. It's a neat, appealing bottle and reasonably priced for what you get.

mrsgordonfreeman · 14/12/2012 09:15

Just to add, I do use a separate stain remover and sometimes Napisan on DH's running shirts to get the honk out.

MerryMarigold · 14/12/2012 09:33

Sadly, made my ds1's eczema flare up. Back to the old, unscented stuff. He smelled so lovely too Sad. Maybe I will try the method unscented, but don't think Tesco's have it. Will have to look in Waitrose.

Notgrownupinmyhead · 14/12/2012 09:50

I cant wash the nappies in itHmm it has now started to irritate ds2's bum. It was good for them at first but a few washes down the line its given him a rash, he has eczema also and thats started to flare up a bit too.

SuzySheepSmellsNice · 14/12/2012 10:01

Good point GoodKingWenSOLOslas...

Q1 What was your overall impression of the Method Laundry Liquid 25 Wash Pump?
I really like the bottle, though would have preferred the instructions to be in English! It feels sturdy and like it will last a long time. I hope there is a refill so you don't have to keep buying a new bottle each time. The smell is lovely and friends have commented on how nice our clothes smell. It also cleans very well and I think it has actually improved my 'whites' wash - they do seem more white than other liquid washes I've tried. I also really like pump action and would probably buy it on this basis.
Q2 Is there anything you'd change about Method Laundry Liquid?
Apart from the language on the bottle, no.
Q3 What did you think of the fragrance? And the cleaning power?
Both great. Very impressed with the cleaning power and love the smell when they come out of the washing machine. They smell clean but not too much of cleaning products.
Q4 If it came up in conversation, do you think you would recommend Method Laundry Liquid to a friend/relative or not? If so, what would you say about it? If not, why not?
I have actually already recommended it! A friend has commented on how lovely our clothes smell and I recommended Method as a great liquid laundry wash. I also told her/showed her the bottle and she thought it was a great design feature.

I would be interested to know where Method will be/is sold. I buy most of my cleaning products from Wilkinsons (for cost and convenience). I also do an online Tesco shop and would consider adding it to my shop (even though Tesco is usually more expensive than Wilkinsons). I usually make my buying decision based on convenience of purchase, cost, smell and whether anyone in the family has had a reaction to the product in the past. I wouldn't make a special effort to get Method liquid wash if it wasn't convenient for me to buy it but would definitely use it again if the price was ok and I could get it delivered to the house!

littlemonkeymum · 14/12/2012 13:48

Q1. Really liked the design - very compact and modern. Thought the pump action element was a definite plus.
Q2. Can't think of anything I disliked apart from the product being a bit expensive to buy
Q3. Thought the fragrance was very pleasant, not too strong but enough to smell 'properly washed'. Clothes have all come out clean so no complaints so far
Q4. Would recommend so far - the product doesn't appear to be irritating sensitive skin and seems to be quite effective, though have not tested very soiled clothes yet
