Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

They're OK. Quite pleasant and crunchy, but they get a bit sickly towards the end of a bag and I end up with bits stuck in my teeth! Some of the flavours seem rather sweet (sugar in the "lightly salted" - why?) and synthetic (wondering what "natural flavourings" which mysteriously appear in the ingredients lists could be.) DH likes them, though and DS2 loves them!

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

They're a bit like a very thin, flavoured cracker.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?
I like the sweet chilli the best. I think it helps that it's not dairy laden, like the other flavours, since I go through times when anything containing dairy upsets my tummy (DS1, who is also dairy sensitive, snaffled that pack, yesterday!). I would probably try another tangy flavour like this.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

Their texture

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

If we were maybe stood in a shop wanting to choose a savoury snack, then I might possibly, but I doubt it, otherwise. I prefer something less processed, like plain, ordinary crisps.

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
I quite liked the packaging, very attractive and well designed. I enjoyed eating them but there was not as much flavour as I would have hoped.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?
They tasted like flavoured ryvita biscuits. That is how I would describe the taste, as that was more prominent above the flavour they were supposed to be.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?
I liked the sour cream ones.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?
They strike me as more healthy as they are wholegrain.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
Not really, I wasn't as keen as I thought I would be. I didn't like the taste and they seemed to make me extremely thirsty (?)

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

I liked them - the kids liked them. The only thing I wasn't sure about was they were a bit sweet. But that's not a bad thing. The texture was good. I'm sure they used to be crumbly but these are much better.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

They taste a bit like the crispy coating of chicken nuggets but without the grotty soft bit. They are sweet and also salty so they do make you want a drink but in a good way. They are very nice dipped in philadelphia.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?

Cheese and onion.

Please can you do a cheese and pesto one.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

The texture. They are much lighter, but not as crisp IYSWIM

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would. My DC eat those darn Organix Carrot Stix and they leave orange trails everywhere, but these did not bugger up my upholstery.

FAO MN HQ - umm I've namechanged. If you can't work out who I am do PM me :)

llynnnn · 02/09/2011 17:06

Hi mine still haven't arrived? no card or anything :( wonder if the postie got peckish? Anyone else still waiting?

BearGryllsBra · 02/09/2011 17:08

Mine arived this afternoon, and we scoffulated the sweet chilli ones between us pretty much right away quickly. They were pronounced delicious by me, and three hungry teenage girls. Will be back over the weekend with proper feedback when we have scoffed the rest. Mmmm, thanks Walkers (and MN).

Twinklenips · 02/09/2011 17:11

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not? Loved the pastel colours on the packaging. Enjoyed them, but all the flavours were very sweet.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were? A crunchy wholewheat crisp.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range? I liked the cheese one best. I'd like to see salt and vinegar or bacon.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it? Healthier.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not? I wouldn't go out of my way but would do if it came up in conversation.

5GoMadOnAZ650 · 02/09/2011 17:17

Ok so mine only arrived this afternoon and were demolished in super quick time as a post park snack.

The dd's aged 2,3,6 and 9 loved all of the flavours. I personally didn't like the sour cream flavour and I found the sweet chilli a touch to sweet at first but after a few I found I liked them more. My favourite were the seasalt.

They liked the texture and likened them to doritos, I would probably serve them with dips as a "posh" crisp rather than our usual value tortilla chips.

The packaging looked more expensive and more wholesome than regular crisps, I would place them in the same band as Kettle Chips.

The size of the pack was just about right.

Thank you very much to Walkers for letting us try them :)

5GoMadOnAZ650 · 02/09/2011 17:19

Oh and answering some of the questions that I missed.

I would recommend them to friends as a grown up crisp, rather than a standard pack of walkers iyswim?

I would describe them as a healthier grown up crisp with delicate flavours.

nickelbabe · 02/09/2011 17:20

i've received mine today - have already eaten the sweet chili flavour, which is lovely, but I won't comment fully until tehy've all been eaten, if that's okay. :)

lubeybooby · 02/09/2011 17:28

Right, me, my DD and my niece have scoffed these now - lovely thanks :o

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

Overall impression very good. Both me, DD and my niece liked the packaging and all the flavours and yes enjoyed eating them. Very positive.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

A healthier and yummy crispy snack

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?

I like sour cream best, my dd likes the lightly salted ones and niece liked sour cream best too

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

Crispier, lighter and not greasy, also the wholegrain

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes definitely, probably as a recommendation for lower calorie/fat snacks

belledechocchipcookie · 02/09/2011 17:52

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not? I did enjoy them, they were packet with flavour, maybe a little too much though, and had a lovely texture. They were well packaged, the pastel colours do look a little 'girlie' and the bags were small. I'd be interested to know how much the RRP would be.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were? Yummy wholegrain baked crisps.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range? The chilli ones were lush. They were all lovely. Salt and vinegar ones would be nice.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it? The wholegrain stands out a lot and they are lower in fat then other crisps.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not? I would because they are lovely.

BehindLockNumberNine · 02/09/2011 17:55

Mine have arrived!! The packaging is pretty, will taste them over the weekend and report back Smile

HallnotOates · 02/09/2011 17:58

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
They looked ok. they were rather sharp in flavour - the first few ok then the taste overwheleming

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were? healthy crisps

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range? bacon

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not? Id rather eat fewer real crisps tbh

cornsilksi · 02/09/2011 18:06

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
Liked the packaging and the product.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?
Healthy crisps

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?
Definitely the salted - I loved them. I would like to see the salted flavour in larger packs - one pack won't be enough for a Friday night with dips and wine in front of the TV!

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?
The amount of wholegrain. They are lighter than ordinary crisps and have a more delicate texture. Plus they don't have the greasy taste that some crisps have.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes I would - they are tastier and healthier than ordinary crisps.

purpleknittingmum · 02/09/2011 18:35

Mine have arrived! Just tucking into tea so we will try them a bit later!

DeathOrCake · 02/09/2011 18:47

I'd not tried them before, but I really like them.

  1. I like the packaging. It looks more 'grown up' than a bag of crisps. I enjoyed eating them, they were very light and crispy, and not greasy at all.
  1. I would describe them as a low fat tasty alternative to normal crisps.
  1. My favourite was the sweet chilli. A spicy tomato flavour would be nice.
  1. I like the non-greasiness of them. They are very crunchy but light.
  1. Yes, I would recommend them, as a nice savoury snack that was a bit different.
aristocat · 02/09/2011 18:49

sun-bites were tested by myself, DS (9yo) and DD (7yo)

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
i liked them however my DCs were not very keen. i liked the size and the packaging (pretty design/ good colours) - very smart. DD didnt like them at all and DS only liked the salted flavour. i agree with other tasters that they are quite subtle and i would prefer a stronger flavour.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?
they are a healthier type of snack similar in texture to a dorito.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?
both myself and DS liked the sea salted flavour the most. our second favourite was the cheese one. we particularly didnt like the chilli or the onion/rosemary taste.
a flavour which we would buy would be a Roast Chicken please.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?
the fact that they are a healthier snack and we noticed the calories were only 117 and 120 per packet.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
yes definitely, although a wider range of flavours would be needed.

thank you mumsnet and Walkers a great taste test Smile

noddyholder · 02/09/2011 18:51

cardboard

NanBullen · 02/09/2011 19:07

ok

  1. yes enjoyed them (as did dh and ds) because they aren't greasy, quite dry iyswim and i like that.

  2. i would say they are a bit like a dipping chip and feels as if you're eating something a bit healthier than crisps.

3)i liked the sour cream and black pepper, ds (3) the cheese and ready salted and dh the chilli. A meaty one, eg. bacon would be nice.

4)they seem lighter than other snacks although i don't think they're anything new are they? as i said, they remind me of dipping chips.

5)yes, the flavours are lovely Grin

cantrememberanynurseryrhymes · 02/09/2011 19:16

Sunbites arrived this morning, marking my place for when I've had a chance to eat them

craftynclothy · 02/09/2011 19:26

llynnn I'm still waiting too

UniS · 02/09/2011 19:44

Tried by 5 yr old DS, DH and I.

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
DH and I liked them enough to eat them. OK, but only OK. They were bit worthy and wholegrain, flavours all seemed pretty similar except the chilli one which did have a lingering kick but was rather too sweet for DHs taste.
DS liked the salted ones but not too keen on any other flavour
DS thinks they are too big, he would prefer each crisp to be only 1 or 2 crinkles wide.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?
Crunchy, square, crinkly, virtuous crisps.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?
Sea salt.

I'd like to have tried a salt and pepper.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?
The very obvious whole grain dottyness of them

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
Probably not. We tend not to talk about crisps outside the pub and the pub sell nicer crisps than these.

notasausage · 02/09/2011 19:53

I have shared mine with DH and DM and we all agree that we like the crunch - more crunchy than other crisps and the texture is good to. There didn't seem to be as many in a pack as other crisps though. Thought the salted ones were a bit bland but loved the Rosemary and Sour Cream ones. Not sure on the Chilli flavour so probably wouldn't choose them. Could do with some meaty flavours.
Would describe them as crinkly, crunchy, wholegrain snacks that are a bit healthier than other crisps.

I would recommend them to my friends.

Thank you Walkers and Mumsnet for letting me try. I'm 5 days overdue with DC2 and this made my day!

NorkyButNice · 02/09/2011 19:53

I've only tried the onion and rosemary ones so far and they were lovely! Really like the texture and the unusual flavour. Great that they are (relatively) healthy too.

More feedback soon!
