Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

I liked the matt packaging , I did enjoy eating them they are quite different to crisps more wheaty which was good. They are also only 3 pro points ( weightwatchers) and we definitley worth the points!

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

a wheaty crisp

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?

I like the onion ones the best but all the flavours were tasty apart from maybe the sweet chillie

paprika flavour would be nice!

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

they are definitley more wheaty than crispy and I liked that

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

yes - because they are tasty and a healthier choice

32notout · 14/09/2011 09:26

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

I did enjoy them, although they reminded me quite a lot of Doritos - maybe the corn in them and the crunchy, baked texture. They were very good with dip as well as on their own.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

A crunchier, less greasy alternative to crisps with some interesting and different flavours.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?

I liked the sour cream ones. I am a complete salt and vinegar addict so it would be good to see that flavour too.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

Probably the crunchiness of them - a little bit like Wheat Crunchies but better flavours and a completely different shape (flat not tubular).

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would - lower fat alternative to crisps in some interesting flavours.

NewGirlHelenMumsnet · 14/09/2011 09:32

For those of you who haven't received their Sunbites yet - I've let Walkers know and they're sending you replacement packs - should be with you this week.

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

I did enjoy eating them, they didn't seem as greasy as I find some crisps and they were very crunchy - which is also a bonus. However, I did find that the flavours weren't very strong.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

A tasty snack, similar to a crisp but much tastier and healthier.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?

I really enjoyed the Sweet Chilli - probably because, while I enjoyed the other flavours, the Chilli was the strongest overall. The others were a little less flavoursome.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

Wholegrain makes it crunchier, and tastier in my opinion

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, I would recommend them trying them, they are a bit different and a bit healthier than the usual crisps; but sadly more expensive.

ToothlesstheDragon · 14/09/2011 10:57

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

They looked like they were going to be quite healthy and tasteless to be honest, but once you gave them a go they were delicious. (most of the flavours anyway)

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?
Almost like dorito in tasting, wheaty crisps with lovely flavours

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?
for me it was the rosemaryone. Those were delicious. The sour cream was my husbands and my son was quite partial to the salted ones, but DH and I thought those were a bit tasteless

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

The flavour. Its so different to other crisps we've tried, almost fresher.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Already have. Just thought they were so yummy. Good sized pack and enjoyable to eat. Really enjoyed them. Thankyou so much for sending us some samples.

Would have to add the chilli ones were a real let down. Was expecting something a little bit spicy/zingy but the flavour was just flat. Will be buying the sour cream ones and the rosemary ones again though!

Imagine my pleasure at opening the box at the post office and finding such a pretty array of coloured packets staring back at me!
I love the colours and ?matt? finish of the packets, says something quite sophisticated and grown up about the crisps (i.e. The kids aren't getting any!)
First up ? Sweet Chilli ? There is something very ?delicate? about these crisps from their thickness, it really seems to enhance the flavour as the crisp is quite thin and the ridges hold lots of flavour. The wheaty, grainy smell almost tells you how much healthier they are than most other crisps. A lovely sweet edge to the slight kick of the chilli which comes in after a little ?masticating?! Considering the thickness/thinness of the crisps, they are surprisingly fulfilling and extremely moreish. Only problem is, I found myself finishing the packet all too quickly! Time to move on to the next packet I guess!...
Cheddar & caramelised onion ? Lots of other cheese flavoured crisps (especially cheese & onion) can smell really quite sickly and overpowering, but these do not. Again, you get the wheaty smell with a hint of actual cheddar. The crunch is extremely satisfying and you really get the wholegrain flavour coming through with the real cheddar flavour coming in behind and then a hint of the caramelised onion to finish. Again, the ridges hold the concentrated flavour beautifully and as a bonus I?m not worried that I?m going to stink out the office!! You really see the wholegrain in the crisps too which helps my conscience when eating 5 packets to test the flavours!
Sour Cream & Cracked Black Pepper - I took a lucky dip into the box this time, here goes.. Ooh, they smell like someone has been cooking in the kitchen, with a hint of a fresh bag of chips from the chippie with lashings of salt & vinegar!! OK, so I?m not normally a fan of sour cream flavoured crisps and on first bite I thought I?d feel the same about these, but once you overcome the ?sour?, you get the creaminess and then a warming flavour from the pepper. Surprisingly moreish again and found myself finishing the packet without any hesitation.

Only 2 more packets to go now, but as this post is getting rather large, I will return with my verdict on the final 2 shortly!!

fruitshootsandheaves · 14/09/2011 12:44

Bit of an update as have finally eaten the cheddar ones. Everyone liked them, except DS as he doesn't like cheese and didn't have one.
So my favourites were the cheddar and the sour cream ones.

Tiggertoo14 · 14/09/2011 13:19

Overall we did enjoy them, although I am not a major crisp eater but my partner is. I tend to like light things like quavers so did enjoy them and would buy them rather than other crisps for myself. Describing them to a friend i would say they are much lighter than normal crisps. I particularly enjoyed the cheese and onion ones and they had a nice strong cheese taste. I didnt like the chilli ones felt they were quite tasteless which disappointed as expected them to be really tasty. I think the lightness of them makes them different and the pastel coloured packaging. If it came up in conversation i would recommend some flavour definitely but would suggest they avoid the chilli one. Hope this is what you are looking for!

natalieboo · 14/09/2011 13:54

I really loved the colours of the packets and loved all the flavours, my favourite would have to be the sour cream ones unlucky for me my husband tried one and then pinched the rest of the packet :( I would describe them to a friend by saying they are wholegrain snacks which are much healthier for you than normal crisps.
I would love to see some sort of beef flavour. Sunbites are different from other crisps as they are wholegrain and they are crunchier than normal crisps. I would definetely recommend these to a friend as they are brilliant especially if you are on a diet as they are only 120 calories. I personally feel the flavouring in sunbites is just enough as they are not too strong and overpowering. Thankyou for giving me the opportunity to try these. :)

horsewoman · 14/09/2011 15:21

q1-love them, but a little too expensive!
q2- not potato, but very crisp!
q3- like the chili ones, the other ones were a little lacking flavour
q4- very crispy! Not potato
q5- yes, I would recommend them, they're nice!

IHeartIona · 14/09/2011 20:12

I liked the bags in particular, a nice design. I did enjoy the sunbites as they were filling and had nice flavours.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

Wholegrain snacks with less fat than crisps, with a texture rather like Square crisps

I liked the sour cream ones and the rosemary ones the best. I was less keen on the ohters, the chilli were my least favourite.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

The wholegrain and lower fat (though that is two!)

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, I have already told my colleagues about them when they wondered what I was tucking into at lunchtime. I recommended them because they are different to other snacks and have interesting flavours, and also a lot of my friends are interested in finding more healthy snacks etc.

Thanks very much for letting me take part!

Reggiee · 14/09/2011 20:16

jlclark · 15/09/2011 09:37

Loved trying out the new Sunbites with my family. They were fresh tasting, crunchy and very satisfying. The best flavour, in my opinion was the Sour Cream & Cracked Black Pepper flavour - they are the best Sour Cream snacks I have ever tasted. The Lightly Sea Salted were also a favourite, full of flavour & can taste the wholegrains, great taste. Both these flavours left us wanting more!!!!! The Sunripe & Sweet Chilli, we felt, was not as tasty, it was OK, but to be honest left a funny aftertaste. My kids & I enjoyed these snacks & they are a healthier option than crisps for an occassional treat & they taste better too!!!! Thanks for letting us try them out Walkers xx Smile

debbywalker · 15/09/2011 10:40

Rissemere · 15/09/2011 15:45
  1. we ate them up no problem within a couple of days! The flavours were good and they worked well dipped in sour cream
  2. Good flavours but with a bit of a rivita whole grain good for you texture
  3. Sour cream and chilli but we liked all of them
  4. The healthy grainy rivita texture - also didn't seem to be too much in packet so might aid slimming!!!
  5. Yes as a slightly more healthy alternative to put in a lunch box
timsenga · 15/09/2011 16:19

We have gradually munched our way throught all the flavours now, the flavours we liked the most were Sweet Chilli and Sour Cream as they were full of flavour, some of the others were a bit bland and cardboardy. We enjoyed the texture of them as it was a bit different and it is so nice to see a healthier alternative to crisps. The packaging I thought was really different, bright and modern. I think I would recommend them to a friend in particular the more flavourful ones. Thank you very much for letting us take part in this research

nakedandangry · 15/09/2011 17:41

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

  1. Well I scoffed the lot quite quickly so that weren't too bad. They wouldn't be my crisp of choice as the sweetness (from the wheat??) stopped them from being properly savoury for my taste also I found the sweetness to 'clash' a bit with flavours like sour cream, or the salted. However, I DID ENJOY THE ROSEMARY FLAVOUR - really good, and the sweet chilli worked very well.

The packaging is very attractive.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?
Light wheaty, a bit like those tube snacks (soory c an't recall what they're called for a minute), non greasy, sweetish crisp snack.
Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range? Rosemary, chilli. More herb flavours perhaps, garlic, thyme, pepper, sage.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?
Well they seem to be on the 'healthy for you' spectrum. No idea if true.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would recommend them to someone on a low fat diet possibly. Or a potato phobic Grin.

cate16 · 15/09/2011 18:14

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
We realy enjoyed them in our house - well the man in the house didn't though!

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?
A wheaty chrisp

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?
1st Rosemary and onion
2nd sour cream
3rd cheddar
4th sweet chilli
5th sea salted

Not sure about other flavours though - I'm not really a chrisp eater, which I think is why I enjoyed the sunbites. Salt and vinegar? but I'm not sure it would work with the wheat?

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

For me it was simply the fact they're not potato based.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

yes possibly.......if it came up in converstion that is!!!!!!!!!!

essexgirl31 · 15/09/2011 18:17
  1. Enjoyed every mouthful!
  1. Crunchy, grainy, rivita - ish. Yummy!
  1. All of them apart from Sea Salt (they were a bit bland)
  1. For some reason I think of them as low fat
  1. Yes would recommend
Honeydragon · 15/09/2011 18:20

Where can you by the Onion & rosemary or cheese and onion.

I can only finf Sour cream, Ready Salted or Chilli if I look in my Local stores (Waitrose, Tesco Co Op)

Multipack would be a dead good idea btw, whoever suggested it

UKcanuck · 15/09/2011 19:21

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
Nicely packaged/presented gave an impression of higher quality than "regular" crisps. I think the colours suit the flavours. I enjoyed the smell on opening the packs and liked the texture of the crisps quite solid, not flimsy or greasy. That being said, a lot of them did splinter down so you're left with a lot of tiny pieces so maybe they aren't as solid as I thought. There aren't enough in a pack, though!

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?
A cross between a crisp and a cracker with a variety of unusual flavours.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?
Sour Cream and Cracked Black Pepper -- by a long way. I'm a real traditionalist on flavours so I can't easily think of one I'd like to add. Maybe something like paprika, or garlic and herb?

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?
More interesting flavours.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
Absolutely -- I really liked them. I have recommended them to people before and I would definitely buy them in preference to my regular crisp choice (which is also a Walkers product, though!). I would serve them at parties SunBites were introduced to my workplace recently as part of a range of "healthier" snacks than normal crisps, so if that is true then that is an aspect that could be more strongly emphasised.

coffeewhitenosugar · 15/09/2011 19:34

Absolutely loved them all as did dd's, I would definitely recommend them and buy them myself, lovely little crispy snacks, great for kids lunchboxes too! I thought the chilli might be too spicy for the girls and the salted ones too salty but they were all great and we really enjoyed eating them - the girls would happily have eaten all the packets in one go! I love the fact that they are healthier than crisps as we've never really 'done' crisps but I would happily buy these. Highly recommend them, they taste great! Thank you for sending them (any more awaiting a new home?).

BestLaidPlans · 15/09/2011 19:51

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

Attractive packaging, liked the muted colours. Enjoyed them very much, nice texture and interesting flavours.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

Like a cross between a tortilla chip and a wheaty crisp.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?

I liked Rosemary & Onion best, DH liked the cheese one. A tomato based flavour or a bacon one would be nice

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

They seem healthier than crisps.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, the flavours are interesting, they have a nice texture and they are healthier than regular crisps.

storminabuttercup · 15/09/2011 20:15

Really tasty, they have good strong flavours, and low fat! Will be buying these from now on!

pleasethanks · 15/09/2011 20:35

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

A tasty healthy snack. A good alternative to crisps. I really enjoyed them, lovely flavours and texture.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

A seeded, wholegrain crispy wafer snack. Which are just lovely.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?

I love the sour cream ones and regularly buy them. I had not tried the cheese ones before and really enjoyed them. Felt like a healthy alternative to a dorito!

Would like to see something like jalapeno and cheese.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

Texture

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would. Because they are a lighter, healthier and frankly tastier, alternative to crisps.
