Will taste and report later.

Hi!
I get mines couple of days ago but I decided to try them all and then give my honest opinion. Now yummy mission is finished.
Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

I loved them.I started with sweet chilly SUNBITES while my son was sleeping, they were so delicious, not so spicy as other chips with chilly and at the same time with rich chilly flavour.
To be honest my first expression was wow! So colourful package, very atttractive and bright. The right size for snack time.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?
SUNBITES-healthy snacks with 61 % wholegrain, with natural flavour, there isn't artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. They are delicious and so crispy, for those who like to count colouries SUNBItes contain less 30% fat.25 g pack contain 120 kcal.
SUNBITES is something new and different but at the same time you can't doubt quality because this is new product from 'walkers' brand.
Good for you and at the same time not so bad for your children because they aren't tp spicy or to salty.Crunchiness is the most important thing for children.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?
My favorite one was sweet chilly, they were so delicious that I was so dissapointed when i put my hand inside thr pack and try to gab one and there wasn't one....Oh...so dissapointed then I thought that i need bigger pack of sweet chilli.
My 28 month toddler loved sea salted and sunbites with cheese, they were my favorites too, sour cream was also good.Onion and Rosemary were ok but I didn't enjoyed them as others.
These weren't my cup of tea.
I think in this range I would like to see tomatoe taste.
Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?
Wholegrain and crunchyness, they are not too spicy or too salted just right.
Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes I will recommend Sunbites to my friends because they are so delicious!

doings · 07/09/2011 10:41
  1. Liked the packaging. Must have enjoyed eating them because I wanted another packet after finishing the first! - or maybe they're just not big enough for one sitting. Have to state the chilli version did catch at the back of the throat.
  1. I would say they were very thin, light, squarish crisps.
  1. Liked the salted/rosemary and cheese. Disappointed not to have a salt and vinegar version - it's my favourite flavour.
  1. They're very light and delicate.
  1. Wouldn't go overboard but also wouldn't dismiss them. They're not innovative enough to rave about but they're a nice flavoured light snack.

Thanks for including me in your test Smile

meplustwo · 07/09/2011 10:54

Delicious!! I really like the crisps they are very tasty, especially the onion and rosemary flavour.

The variety of flavours is great as is the size of the packet, not too big, just enough for a snack.

I would recommend them to friends as a tasty snack with only a 120 calories and 67% wholegrain!

I will definitely be buying them in the future for all the family.

Honeydragon · 07/09/2011 11:25

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

Based on the packaging I probably wouldn't have purchased them as they looked riyvittaish. So glad I did, they were lovely, very tasy much nicer than crisps, and waaaaaaaaay nicer than "healthy" crisps. I particularly liked that non of the flavours felt synthetic.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

Tasty snack, ideal as a replacement for crisps as much more of a treat.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?

LOVED the Rosemary and Onion as well as the Chilli. But we enjoyed them all.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

That they are in very nice savoury flavours. And you get the savoury salty craving abated without the grease Grin

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would and i have. They are ideal for my parents and IL. MiL doesn't like then though s the majority of flavours are onion based

Will def buy again

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 07/09/2011 11:30

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

I did like them but found them a bit sweet - why do they need sugar in them?

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

Light, crispy, not greasy at all.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?

I liked the sea salt and the rosemary and onion. I would like a non-sweet spicy flavour.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

Non-greasy

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Probably, they are a nice light alternative to crisps.

kizzy4kids · 07/09/2011 11:47

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

Both me and my children (age range 6 to 13) enjoyed them very much.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

They tasted like a very light dorito crossed with those bacon rasher crisps for the texture.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?

Our favourite was the sweet chilli but the children didn't rate the sour cream ones which they thought were too sweet. I thought that all apart from the sweet chilli were slightly underflavoured and that they could have tasted a bit stronger.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

The lightness is a big selling point for me.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would recommend them.

AutumnLady · 07/09/2011 11:54

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, I enjoyed eating them as they were light and non-greasy

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

Light snacks, nice flavours and healthier than 'normal' crisps

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?

I liked the Cheddar and Onion ones and the Chilli ones the best, but the Chilli flavouring could have been a little stronger. I would like there to be a salt and vinegar type flavour

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

Light and not greasy and the flavour does not taste artificial

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, I would happily recommend them - especially in a multi-pack Wink

Thanks for including me in your test! Grin

didoreth · 07/09/2011 12:25

Sorry I can't comment personally as dh and ds (age 3) ate ALL the sample before I could try any - within 24 hours of the delivery.

I assume from this that they enjoyed eating them and thought the quality of the product was good.

Neither of them appears to have noticed that the product is supposed to be healthier option, so must presume that the wholegrainness does not adversely affect the taste.

They liked all the flavours.

DH says he would recommend them to a friend - he has recommended them to me, so I will be buying some to try for myself.

LittleFriendSusan · 07/09/2011 13:00

Ours arrived on Saturday and were all gone within a couple of hours of opening the parcel. Read into that what you will :o

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

We liked them as a change from normal crisps. We all had a packet each and then DP had a second packet. I liked that they were lower in fat than standard crisps.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

They remind me of a cross between a cracker and Frazzles texture wise.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?

I liked the sweet chilli and rosemary ones. DD liked the salted and DS preferred the cheesy ones. DP liked them all! I would like to see salt and vinegar or something along those lines.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

They have a nice savoury taste and a good crunch!

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Probably... it's something different and the flavours are quite good.

Thanks for the free trial :)

AFingerofFudge · 07/09/2011 13:33

Right, we have eaten the lot!!
Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
We did enjoy them but found them too sugary

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?
A more wholesome snack than a bag of crisps but still tasty

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?
Rosemary and onion was easily the favourite, we would love to see some sort of bacon flavour

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?
The wholegrain and the fact they don't taste like diet crisps

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would do but I would also mention they're a bit sugary

It is especially a shame that the sea salted ones contain quite a lot of sugar also!!

fruitshootsandheaves · 07/09/2011 13:54

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

They were nice but not as nice as normal crisps.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

I'd describe them as wholemeal crisps

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?

I liked the sour cream, ones. DS liked the chilli ones. The sea salt did not have a strong enough flavour and were like plain crisps.
Haven't tried the cheddar ones yet, saving them for last as I think they will be nice.
DH liked the Rosemary ones best

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

They still taste nice and are nice and crunchy. Most 'healthy' crisps taste like soggy cardboard (not that I eat much soggy cardboard!)

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would, they are healthier and there are some unusual flavours.

Sandalwood · 07/09/2011 13:54

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
I quite liked the old packet design myself but I guess there's more room for more flavours this way. I like the colours. Loved eating them - 3 of us tried them all. As said earlier it is nice that they're not greasy as crisps usually are. (they are quite sweet though). Nice and crisp. I like that they're a bit healthier than usual crisp snacks.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?
Wholegrain snack like crisps

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?
I like the garlic and rosemary
DH likes the sweet chilli

DD the sourcream and sweet chilli ones
(any chance of a mixed multi bag?)

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?
Wholegrain

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
I probably would. The flavours are good. Maybe popular with children because of the sweetness - I know my DD would be happy to eat them as an alternative to any usual crisps she likes.

StrikeUpTheBand · 07/09/2011 14:10

I have eaten them all now. And also I have had a very lovely big parcel this morning full of Sunbites packs and a little canvas bag (Thanks to whoever on Mumsnet reported my problem for me Grin Smile Grin ). It's a good thing I liked them as I now have quite a stash to get through!

So, my feedback:

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

I really did enjoy eating them. I loved the texture (I am a fan of that sort of texture - hard to describe - sort of gritty but in a good way Grin. DP did not enjoy them, as I predicted he wouldn't as he doesn't share the same opinions as me with regards to that sort of texture. He enjoyed the flavours but didn't like the consistency once he had chewed them. I am glad he didn't like them - they are safe from him eating them at night when I have gone to bed!

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

They are a bit like a cross between crisps and tortilla-style snacks/nachos. They are lovely and crispy and brittle and have a rough, crinkly surface. They are squares. They are quite a bit lower in calories than a packet of crisps.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?

I liked the Rosemary and onion the most, but I enjoyed all of them. I am not a fan of ready salted flavour things but I know many people are. Bacon flavour might be nice given the crispy texture.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

The texture is different to other snacks. Tortilla chips are thicker, but similar texture.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, I would recommend them. I wasn't expecting to like them as much as I did!

Thanks for choosing me Smile.

babster · 07/09/2011 14:37

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
We were hoping these would be like the Lays Sunchips we had enjoyed on holiday and hooray, they were the same! I love the crunchiness and nuttiness of them, and it's a good way to get some wholegrains into the kids.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?
They look like Frazzles but have a texture more like tortilla chips, but grainier. Very crunchy!

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?
I liked the plain salted ones best as I like the malty flavour. The kids liked the cheese and the sweet chilli flavours. The rosemary and onion flavour was a bit sweaty-tasting, and the sour cream flavour was unpleasantly sharp.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?
The wholegrain element, lower in fat than crisps.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, because they're lower in fat than crisps and contain wholegrain.
Thanks Walkers, we had fun testing these!

twojumpingbeans · 07/09/2011 14:53

I am a bit late to this thread but...

I really rate these crisps, they feel like a tasty snack without the guilt.. I think the packaging looks smart and somehow 'grown up'.

If I were describing them to a friend I'd still call them crisps but I think I'd add that they were wholegrain, I'm not daft enough to say that they are healthy but would say that they are less bad for you than a traditional fried crisp.

I think the best flavour is the sweet chilli, I must say I found the plain ones a little bland, my DD though, loved these. I think the flavours are interesting but maybe a little 'samey'. I think if there was a salt and vinegar flavour you'd be onto a winner!

What makes them different is the texture, which is very wholegrainy, I like this though my DH thought they were too grainy. I can't think of any other wholegrain crisp snacks...

I would definitely recommend them to a friend and have already given some to my sister, who liked them..

missorinoco · 07/09/2011 15:03

Further to the above - I strongly disliked the Rosemary flavour, it reminded me of roast chicken flavoured crisps which I detest. I like the sweet chilli flavour, which were pleasant. Cheese and onion and salted flavour remain my favourites.

babypowder · 07/09/2011 16:46

My children are overjoyed! (And I found them moreish as well)

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?
We all enjoyed them. I thought they looked a little like thin corrugated cardboard at first, but they are very crisp and generously flavoured.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?
Much as I did above (although I may refrain from the corrugated cardboard descriptor)

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?
I really enjoyed the sour cream, and agree that paprika and salt & vinegar would be welcome additions.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?
We don't tend to have a lot of snacks. What's different is that I would seriously consider buying these!

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would - they are light, crisp, and really quite delicious. And they're less unhealthy than other crisps. What's not to like?

ReadyToDrink · 07/09/2011 17:04

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

Overall, I liked them. I'd already seen them in the supermarket & thought that they looked appealing. They are very crunchy (a good thing) & the flavours are a good range. However, I found that they were either too weakly flavoured (the Sea Salted ones in particular - I understand that salt is a health thing, but they were very plain) or too sweet (most of them! Most surprisingly the Sour Cream & Cheddar ones). The sweetness left a very unpleasant aftertaste.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

I would say that they are very crunchy crisps, sold as being the healthy alternative. I'm not actually sure how healthy they are in reality, but the wholegrain thing is a nice touch.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?

I thought that the Sour Cream ones would be my favourite, but they were too sweet & tasted a bit like sick. The Onion and Rosemary ones were my favourite, which surprised me as I don't like onion very much in general. I'm not sure about which different flavours, but I'd love for them to be more savoury than they are, with more of a flavour to them. Perhaps make the Sea Salt one a Salt & Vinegar, if too much salt is an issue? There needs to be some sort of 'oomph' to them.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

The main thing is probably the wholegrain. On a superficial level, the packaging's pastel colours are different to most crisps.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

I might do, but I would warn them about the sweetness - so I don't know if they'd buy them at my recommendation anyway!

Thank you for the opportunity to test them :)

champagnesupernova · 07/09/2011 17:27

1 Overall impression - better than I thought they'd be ( am always dubious of "healthy" crisps) Another who scoffed them all in one sitting Blush
2 Like what someone said earlier about white bread v brown bread
3 I would have liked salt and vinegar and didn't like the chilli ones
4 I like the wholegrain and I think the shape is quite good (good for dipping which may or may negate the healthy option if you're then smothering in hummus/dip)
5 I might do - they were much better than I"d expected
THANKS Grin

spanky2 · 07/09/2011 19:13

1.I enjoyed eating them. They had a strong flavour and they were crunchy and light.

  1. I would describe them as a bit expensive, but taste really nice.
  2. I really liked the cheese and onion, which is odd as that's my least favourite flavour of crisps. I didn't like the aniseed aftertaste in the sweet chilli, but ate them anyway, as I was hungry and didn't want to eat the dcs' crisps! I would like salt and vinegar, paprika or bolognaise.
  3. They are wholegrain, but with the same fat content as low fat crisps. The packaging suggests that they are healthy, but I was surprised at the fat content as I thought it would be lower. It didn't stop me eating them!
  4. I would recommend them to a friend. They are a nice change from crisps. They don't stick to your teeth like snackajacks.
insanityscatching · 07/09/2011 19:45

Sorry I'm late to this have been away and had to pick up the parcel from the sorting office.

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not? Really enjoyed them, nice depth of flavour, not too salty and nice and crunchy.

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were? I'd describe them as a more sophisticated crisp with a good choice of flavours.

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range? I liked the chilli best, didn't really like the sour cream ones though so ds ate those. I'd like sundried tomato flavour as it would fit nicely in the range and I love tomato

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it? the wholegrain obviously adds to the fibre content which I think (don't eat many crisps) is low in other crisps

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes I would, they are a nice snack, I like the texture and the flavour and they are a little bit different to the usual crisps

supergreenuk · 07/09/2011 20:17

Q1 Very nice crisps. I enjoyed eating them. Light and crispy and not greasy. Tasty and didn't feel like they were too sinful.

Q2 Tasty and fairly health.

Q3 Sour cream. Didn't you used to do a sun dried tomato flavour? I used to like them.

Q4 Shape & texture

Q5 Yes. They are really nice.

Sweet chilli ? A bit disapointing. They tasted sweet but it took until about crisp number 5 to actually get any chilli kick and I usually really love sweet chilli flavour.

Sea Salt ? A bit boring but is what it says it is. A mild salty taste.

Sour Cream and black pepper ? Great. Lovely strong flavour. I want some more. By far my favourite flavour so far. Tangy, creamy which a hint of black pepper as you breath out.

Cheddar and onion ? Quite and old strong cheese taste. Not unpleasant. It became less strong tasting as you got used to the flavour.

Onion & Rosemary ? I didn't expect to like these but I do. Kind of reminded me of stuffing.

Sour cream was a winner for me. Bigger bags please. They are very light and didn't fill me up so I would love to have the choice of a big bag grab bag or family size bag.

Thanks for sending them too me. xxx

MrsKwazii · 07/09/2011 20:24

Q1 What was your overall impression of the product? Did you enjoy eating them or not? If so, why? If not, why not?

Lovely, light and really crunchy. D1 was very taken with them and would have scoffed the lot if she could have done Wink

Q2 How would you describe Sunbites to a friend who didn't know what they were?

Low-fat crisps that are really tasty and crunchy

Q3 Which flavour did you like the most? Are there any other flavours you'd like to see in the range?

D1 and I liked the sea salted and sour cream flavoured one. DH enjoyed the sweet chilli pack as he prefers spicier flavours. None of us were too keen on the cheddar and roasted onion or onion and rosemary flavours. Quite strong and powdery tasting almost. Wouldn't buy those ones. The other flavours were lighter and fresher.

Q4 Thinking about Sunbites in comparison to other snacks, can you think of one feature which makes Sunbites different? If so, what is it?

The crunchiness. Do like a bit of texture. They're a little like tortilla chips in texture, but much thinner so even crunchier still.

Q5 If it came up in conversation, do you think you'd recommend Sunbites to your friends? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would, especially as we have a Weightwatchers at work meeting in my offices. They're good value on the points system, so the canteen may even be persuaded to stock them.

Would Walkers consider doing a variety multipack of them? Only with the three flavours I like though Wink

Not too sure about 'Tiny moments of extraordinary pleasure' tagline. They're crisps guys, not sex Grin
