Dolmio Tomato Growing Seeds - progress reporting thread

This thread is for the MNers who are growing tomato plants from seed courtsey of Dolmio (well at least they are hoping to Grin). The project is designed to highlight the fact that 100% of Dolmio tomatoes are grown outdoors in the sun (not in greenhouses). For more info on Dolmio please click here

If you are a tomato grower and part of this project please add your updates below - we'd love to know about the plants at each stage - from humble seedlings to the fully grown fruit! Do let us know how, if at all, your children are getting involved as well. If you are not so succesful don't worry please also let us know here. If you need any advice please ask and if you can offer advice please do so!

Details for sending in photos is on the email sent.

Everyone who takes part in this project and who adds their feedback and sends in at least one photo will be entered into a prize draw to win one of two £200 John Lewis vouchers and a Dolmio hamper (to be mailed out in September).

Erm - mine didn't arrive till yesterday! SO on Sunday we are going to get grow bags for them. Then I'll let you know

mine went into pots on the window sill a couple of days ago
i am the worst gardener in the world so am hoping you lot will be able to give me lots of advice.

Mine went into a propagator 8 days ago. Dd1 helped with that, dd2 is younger and just peered at us while we did it Grin. No shoots yet and I'm starting to think I may have killed them at the first step Blush. Oh and I put them all in, in the hope that some might grow so if I have killed them they're all dead Blush

I wonder then if I should get one of plastic greenhouse doodahs that you sit outside? I don't have a lot of room on ym window sills!Hmm

Dd2 planted them in compost in a tray on kitchen window sill. Has ignored them since.

I presume I'm part of this - a packet of tomato seeds arrived in an envelope with no covering letter.

DS and I planted them in two pots which are currently on the kitchen windowsill covered with sandwich bags.

Ours are in little pots in a freezer bag, on the kitchen windowsill. After over a week, I'm thinking we're going to have to settle for just the one seedling out of about 8 seeds.

We have planted ours..4 yog pots with three seeds in each...this was done a few days ago and no signs of life yet!...gosh,I hope I haven't killed them so early!

My seedlings are up! I shall let them get a little bigger (one or two proper leaves) and move them from the kitchen windowsill to the greenhouse I think. I will need them to be hardened off and planted out by half term when we are away.

My seedlings are not going terribly well, it's too hot for them in the conservatory. I've moved them outside, but the ones I planted outside are looking great. I just hope we don't have a frost after the rain that is due this weekend which will really mess things up.

DH managed to plant them in a tray and hide put them on the high windowsill in the cloakroom before DS2 could eat them or the soil. We will probably both forget about them now, or DS1 will climb on the toilet cistern to reach them and end up breaking the toilet/his leg or knocking them all over the floor. DS2 currently eating 10-12 cherry tomatos a day, so we need some home grown ones soon.

Planted mine in modules in greenhouse with plastic lid over a week ago. Brought them into DH's office yesterday as think the temperature was fluctuating too much. Have to be careful where they are or demon kitten might eat them.

I guess by the time they are big enough to go out we'll be past the last frost date and only have blight to worry about!

Hoping to plant them this weekend.
The other seeds I've planted recently have taken about a week to start to grow.
I will report back when I have some seedlings.

Finally planted yesterday. Compost is from our composter so will be good to see how they go. On kitchen window sill it gets very warm in there so see how it goes.
I am worlds worst gardener and have been know to kill all plants including Cactis (sp?) !!

Right just back from hols. Have put seeds in tray with compost and covered with bag to get them started on kitchen windowsill. They are being kept comany by sunflowers , pumpkins and chilli seeds . Will keep you all updated on progress , fngers crossed.

I am planting mine this afternoon. I am not terribly hopeful, my only previous experience of foliage care was a potplant as a student that died a sad death. My patchouli-scented hippy loon of a flatmate tried to revive it with reiki Grin

Ds, dd and I have just planted our seeds. They're now on our warm window sill. This is the first time I've ever had a go at planting anything, so I'm going to do some reading on how to look after them. It will be a dream come true to have lovely pesticide free tomatoes to eat! Will udate if there's news.
