Tana Ramsay will be joining us on Mumsnet between 1 -2pm on Monday 13th October for a lunchtime chat about her latest book 'Home Made' and all things culinary. If you can't join us on Monday, please post your advance questions for Tana on this thread. Hope to see you Monday.

I hope her new book has got a good sub-editor as the last one is full of irritating errors in the ingredients and method.

Still like it though.

Also, I'd like to tell her not to straighten her hair, it's much nicer curly.

JustineMumsnet · 09/10/2008 13:26

There is a thread of who we should not invite is here Anna

Some lucky people appear on both the please invite and please don't invite threads but there you go.

(ps We've dis-invited Gary Glitter and Ian Paisley on your advice.)

Gordon has size 14 feet

combustiblelemon · 09/10/2008 13:26

I'd look into the mass brainwashing option Justine.

dinny - the TP thing was the Tony Parsons chat.

tooscaredtothink · 09/10/2008 13:30

Genuine question - it annoyed the hell out of me when I read Gordons book.

Do you ever worry that Gordon married you for your fathers ability to set him up in a restaurant?

He seemed so jealous that he was setting up your previous fiancee in a restaurant. Maybe Gordon could have worded it a tad better in his book??

ahundredtimes · 09/10/2008 13:32

Also re the grandma bones - ds1 10 and dd 2 thang - how do you cook at home for different tastes and desires? I tend to cook for one and the rest have to lump it and wait until their '10 out of 10 meal comes around'. Have you found a better way of doing this?

ahundredtimes · 09/10/2008 13:33

[I am modelling good question asking. Has anyone noticed? You can grade me out of ten if you like ]

combustiblelemon · 09/10/2008 13:34

I tend to build up dried ingredients over time. If you have an area to keep pots outside, some of the woody herbs are very easy to grow. Also, if a recipe calls for a small amount of several fresh herbs, you can freeze the rest.
I don't have all JO's books- just 2- but I like his approach.

Smug is rather harsh.

Jennyisjustknackered · 09/10/2008 13:35

I've never had a message deleted before!!!! I didn't even think it was bad!!! In my defence, I've had root canal treatment this morning...

Jennyisjustknackered · 09/10/2008 13:37

And I don't think it is harsh, it's my opinion. She is another celebrity mother that seems to perpetrate the idea that unless we have time to grow our own basil, we are doing a rubbish job. It makes me feel inadequate, as an actual working mother. But maybe that's just my ishoo!

combustiblelemon · 09/10/2008 13:37

OMG, I didn't see that. I think MN are being more pro-active in their moderating of these threads. Otherwise no-one will come on and we'll have to take turns interviewing each other.

ghosty · 09/10/2008 13:38

Out of order JIJK ... well done MN for deleting.

tooscaredtothink · 09/10/2008 13:38

Why were you deleted Jenny?

For once I am actually on the tread but I can't remember anything horrific?

Jennyisjustknackered · 09/10/2008 13:39

I'd better not say. I'll just flounce instead!

Miyazaki · 09/10/2008 13:40

Eh? Ghosty are you trying to get a job as a mod or something?

And no, it wasn't.

ahundredtimes · 09/10/2008 13:40

The question you meant to ask Jenny was this:

Tana, sometimes I feel that cook books like yours - and others - make me feel bad because I haven't time to whip up some eggy bread and yoghurt dipping in the morning, or make my own bagels. What do you think to that?

See?

combustiblelemon · 09/10/2008 13:40

I buy basil. I am plant killer supreme, but I can keep a pot of that going for ages.

I do think that there is a lot out there to make us feel like we're not living up to the perfect mother ideal. I don't think it's fair to call her that though. You can think it all you want

Jennyisjustknackered · 09/10/2008 13:41

That's perfect! Ask that one! I really didn't mean to offend anyone.

Sorry Tana.

chocolatedot · 09/10/2008 13:41

Don't understand why she of all people would make you feel inadequate?? As if she doesn't have a massive team of people working for her.

Someone like Helena Kennedy or Baroness Greenfield makes me feel inadequate, not someone who only has a profile beause of who she is married to.

Anna8888 · 09/10/2008 13:41

I completely understand that MN wants to make money from this site - that it is a business.

However, it is incompatible to have (historically) a policy of free speech (little moderation) and then expect a group of highly vociferous and free-speaking people to suddenly toe the line for some slebchat.

You need to invite people on who can actually go the whole distance and have some content.

ghosty · 09/10/2008 13:42

No, I am not and no I didn't report it. But I did see it and it was a personal attack. Not a swear word or anything but a crap thing to say.
I can't be bothered with this.
Good luck with this MN.

And besides that, what's it to you if I did report it?

Jennyisjustknackered · 09/10/2008 13:42

Chocolatedot - I have no idea who either of them are. See, now I feel inadequate about that!!!!

Anna8888 - I agree completely.

combustiblelemon · 09/10/2008 13:43

Going by the MN code though, that was technically a personal insult.
