MNHQ here: Got a question for Rishi Sunak?

RhiannonEMumsnet · 21/06/2024 16:45

Hi there,

We’re pleased to tell you that next week, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will be answering questions from Mumsnet users in a written Q+A.

If you have a question you'd like answering, you can post it below. Please stick to the usual guidelines - one question per user, keep it civil, and if one topic is dominating, please don't continue to post what's effectively the same question or point (we'll be deleting questions that are repeated multiple times). We'll make sure we cover the topics that we know are important to Mumsnet users. As it’s a written Q+A without a chance for follow ups, please do include as much detail as you’d like in your questions.

We'll be closing this thread at 1pm on Sunday, so do get your questions in before that - and watch this space to hear the PM’s responses!

Thanks,
MNHQ

When will you be recouping the millions dished out for PPE during the pandemic that was either supplied and not fit for purpose or just not supplied at all.

Perhaps you could start by repossessing yachts and the like that the funds were spent on?

OnceICaughtACold · 21/06/2024 17:01

Why do you want to be Prime Minister?

Blackcats7 · 21/06/2024 17:04

My question is:
Do you ever reflect or even acknowledge the huge damage you do to disabled people as a minority group with your constant rhetoric about sick note culture, work shy etc? You have encouraged the public to see us as a drain on society, liars and cheats. Your party introduced PIP and made it far harder to claim than DLA but still this is not harsh enough for you. DWP’s own figures quote 0% PIP fraud. Would you like to put us all in a vast cheap workhouse or would a resurgence of the Eugenics movement be your preferred option?

Sillystrumpet · 21/06/2024 17:04

The country seems to be coming out of a long dark winter, and our economy stabilising, how do you see further improvements happening?

Meadowfinch · 21/06/2024 17:05

I know RS will be focused on winning as many seats as possible, but if Labour wins, will he commit to staying as leader of the Tories for the immediate future?

Any government works best when there is an effective opposition holding it to account.

Cutting and running is not good for anyone.

socks1107 · 21/06/2024 17:06

In your manifesto it states various things that you are going to if you win the election.
Why have you not done those in the last 14 years?
NHS staff still waiting for this pay rise - why can't you just sort it now, what's going to happen on July 4th that magically means you can do things!

HamHand · 21/06/2024 17:07

This should go well…

Assuming you are re-elected as MP for Richmond, but that the Conservatives go into opposition, will you serve your full five years as an MP until the next election?

MushMonster · 21/06/2024 17:13

What does he really think of the 6 weeks in office of his colleague Liz Truss? And does he honestly think that the continous chaos, changes in prime minister, u-turns of the latest tory leadership can be afforded by UK? Can he please give his answer as a prime minister, a banker and a wealthy citizen? Particularly, as a banker/ economist, please.

Justbetweenus · 21/06/2024 17:17

Is he still a Brexiteer and if so, why has it not been mentioned in any shape or form during the Tory campaign? Is he trying to disassociate from ‘getting Brexit done’?

Renamed · 21/06/2024 17:17

Progress in reducing preventable deaths stalled between 2012 and 2019 due to austerity driven cuts, leading to 130,000 preventable deaths, according to the IPPR. As former Chancellor and now Prime Minister, do you regret this legacy of Conservative government? Do you wish Conservative administrations had done more to invest in public health, when they had the chance, instead of undermining it?

TheShellBeach · 21/06/2024 17:20

When you lose the election and are forced to resign, who will you back to be next Tory Party leader?

Edited to change wording slightly.

Whatshallabee · 21/06/2024 17:21

Which government minister would you say best fits the description “twunt”? You may list more than one.

DrSalome · 21/06/2024 17:25

How is it that after 14 years of your party in power my local nhs has got demonstrably worse? Some examples are just from the last three to four years are:

Local NHS trust states it no longer refers for podiatry and patients must pay privately.
There are NO NHS dentists in my town any more including for children, so we have to pay privately for everyone.
The midwife led birth centre where I spent much of my labour and received excellent care has closed with no plans to reopen due to lack of staff and money, meaning all birthing mothers have to go to a hospital in a different town.
My consultant's secretary told me she was unable to arrange my follow up appointment before my medication trial ran out as she is now doing two full time jobs in three days a week.
The last time I got a doctor's appointment I was seen by a paramedic earning a fraction of what a doctor earns and without relevant training.
When my husband had to go to the out of hours GP there were no doctors on duty, only a nurse. Presumably because they are cheaper.
I could go on.
Please note NONE of these relate to strikes so please find another reason. Genuinely interested.

Thisismyusername1 · 21/06/2024 17:26

What will you be doing to help unpaid carers?

Your manifesto says you have increased carers allowance by £1500 in 14 years. Do you think this is enough given Carers UK estimates that unpaid carers across the UK save the government £162bn a year.

Carers allowance is £81.90 a week for a MINIMUM of 35 hours work.

VillageLifeIsTricky · 21/06/2024 17:27

Does he believe he has a genuine grasp of what day-to-day life is like for the average person, on an average wage, in the UK? Bearing in mind he has stated that he doesn't know any working class people, how then, does he relate to and comprehend the granular issues that affect millions of people?

ToriesDelendaEst · 21/06/2024 17:31

Hob nobs, bourbons, custard creams, chocolate digestives or garibaldis ?

Couldn't give a toss personally, but at least the usual mendacity won't enrage me.

BleachedJumper · 21/06/2024 17:34

Question to mumsnet - Will it actually be Rishi sat typing/dictating the answers out, or some advisor?

Will he please refrain from mentioning labours tax policies (or his party line on them) and discuss his own track record/manifesto?

beginnerwitch · 21/06/2024 17:38

Why are you promising things you will do. If they are that important why haven't you done them already?

CormorantStrikesBack · 21/06/2024 17:45

Are you going to admit that the pledge of “30 new hospitals” is disingenuous when there are no new hospitals. Extending an a&e dept (because the a&e 25 miles up the road shut down due to lack of staff and now that whole town have to come to our city so our a&e isn’t big enough) is not a new hospital.

refurbing some wards at Doncaster Royal Infirmary because they are ancient is not a new hospital.

You can’t Build new hospitals because you can’t even staff the ones you have. We have 300 nursing vacancies at my hospital trust.

are you aware that applications for nursing degrees around the country have fallen on average 50% with universities unable to fill spaces on the degree programmes? Why do you think nursing is such an unattractive career that nobody wants to do it?

elastamum · 21/06/2024 17:48

Given all our public services are now much worse than they were when the Tories came into office, why should we trust you to fix them?

CheshireCat1 · 21/06/2024 17:50

If you go to the shop and buy a small brown loaf, a tin of baked beans and a pint of milk how much would it cost?

CormorantStrikesBack · 21/06/2024 17:51

On a personal level why is my daughter waiting 2 years for a gynae referral appt?

why did I have to wait for nearly 3 years for ankle surgery and couldn’t walk during that time!

why is my friend still waiting over a year after being told he needs urgent heart surgery that would normally be done in 2 weeks and that he could drop down dead any minute. The hospital keep apologising but just say that’s what the wait times are.

how is this acceptable? Would you be happy to wait for such heart surgery or would you go private?

placemats · 21/06/2024 17:52

So when you did the Eat Out To Help Out campaign, who exactly were you helping out?
