MNHQ here: Got a question for Rishi Sunak?

RhiannonEMumsnet · 21/06/2024 16:45

Hi there,

We’re pleased to tell you that next week, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will be answering questions from Mumsnet users in a written Q+A.

If you have a question you'd like answering, you can post it below. Please stick to the usual guidelines - one question per user, keep it civil, and if one topic is dominating, please don't continue to post what's effectively the same question or point (we'll be deleting questions that are repeated multiple times). We'll make sure we cover the topics that we know are important to Mumsnet users. As it’s a written Q+A without a chance for follow ups, please do include as much detail as you’d like in your questions.

We'll be closing this thread at 1pm on Sunday, so do get your questions in before that - and watch this space to hear the PM’s responses!

Thanks,
MNHQ

Are you in any way ashamed of the billions of pounds your government has wasted/funnelled into your mates bank accounts, whilst spouting the hateful bile towards the poor the sick & the vulnerable, if you aren’t you damm well should be.

Mostlyoblivious · 21/06/2024 19:10

Are you actually trying to take the Conservative Party down from the inside?

CassieMaddox · 21/06/2024 19:12

What are you planning to do for the young adults of my sons age, who:
-went into lockdown in March of year 10 at peak adolescence

  • got messed about with repeated lock downs and will they/won't they GCSEs culminating in weirdly harsh teacher assessed grades
  • had their first real experience of exams and revising in A levels
  • which were then marked harshly to "reset" from covid culminating in a whole cohort of young adults with bad GCSEs, bad A levels, damaged prospects and no support.

These young people need help and support to get them into productive work and deal with the damage done to their mental health and self esteem from the choices of your government. What do you plan to do for them?

ValleyClouds · 21/06/2024 19:12

Why does your party (both now and historically) seek to demonise disabled people instead of encouraging the country to become more equal and inclusive?

CassieMaddox · 21/06/2024 19:13

TawnyFae · 21/06/2024 18:52

What specifically will you do to get males who rape & abuse locked up & away from women & children?

Thank you for this- +1

Clearinguptheclutter · 21/06/2024 19:17

What do your daughters think about your attitude to net zero ?

Scruffily · 21/06/2024 19:21

Why do you keep calling asylum seekers illegal immigrants when you know that is untrue?

OperationDinnerout · 21/06/2024 19:23

keep doing the best you can, and have you watched house of cards series the modern version, and like the show is there lots of compromises eg ill support your bill if you do x at later date etc ?

Scruffily · 21/06/2024 19:26

Why do you want to leave the European Court of Human Rights set up by Churchill which operates according to a treaty drawn up by the UK? Surely junking the proud legacy he left is not what you were elected for? We have a proud tradition of taking in refugees: why do you want to junk that tradition also? Why not deal with the immigration issue by setting up an efficient system for processing asylum claims so that non-genuine asylum seekers can be deported much more quickly, rather than pouring millions of pounds down the Rwanda drain?

Scruffily · 21/06/2024 19:26

What will you do to reverse the current dreadful child poverty figures?

OliveTheaBough · 21/06/2024 19:29

Prime Minister, many people believe you will move to California in September - in the event of you losing the election, or losing your seat, where do you see you and your family in a year’s time?

Sillystrumpet · 21/06/2024 19:37

How do you define a woman?

itsgettingweird · 21/06/2024 19:38

You have been in power as a party for 14 years.

Why now that it appears from the polls Labour will win the GE are you blaming them for what you haven't done and asking them why they haven't done things you should have done - as you are in power.

Why not stand up and admit where you've failed alongside telling us how you'll change? You said you'd govern with integrity. You've shown no evidence of this and continue not to do so.

DramaLlamaBangBang · 21/06/2024 19:44

Why is your campaign all about tax cuts when we have so many things in this country that are underfunded and falling apart?
What do you have to offer young people in this country?

AndyPandyismyhero · 21/06/2024 20:02

Are you proud of the damage your party had done to our education system over the past 14 years, or, more likely, you don't give a damn because you can afford to send your children private?
I have been a TA for over 20 years. In that time I have seen my school go from being able to afford sufficient staff to teach and support every child well, to being cut to the bone in terms of staff. We can no longer afford sufficient stationary, paint, glue, paper, and art materials. Staff do not have access to hot water for hand washing because we can't afford to heat the water. We have no heating in our staff room because we cannot afford to repair or replace the ancient, broken down, heater. Paint is flaking off the walls and mushrooms grow in the damp corridor because we cannot afford to repair or rebuild the 100 year old wooden corridor. Staff, including TAs like me, buy resources regularly so we can do our job, we buy breakfast cereal for children whose parents can't. Children cannot get much needed appointments with CAMHS and we have to pick up the pieces as best as we can. I haven't even mentioned the pitiful rate of pay for what I do. Can you honestly, honestly say you are proud to have been in the party that has allowed this to happen? Because if I, or almost any other person working in a school had been in charge at any point in the last 14 years, we would hang out heads in shame.

Beachballplayer · 21/06/2024 20:10

What date are you proposing to send all the poor children to the workhouses? People can't afford to pay their bills or eat and yet you choose to make cuts to benefits, DLA, pip and yet you and all your Tory friends can claim for 2nd houses and everything else that you do so when are you all going to start making reductions to yourselves? Why on earth do Mps need 2nd homes??? And bar bills??? And all the rest of the perks you receive when people can't afford to eat?

Hiphopopotamonster · 21/06/2024 20:14

Do you think Nigel Farage is racist?

TaraTories · 21/06/2024 20:17

Can you list 5 true benefits of Brexit that we could not ever have done had we stayed in the EU or that you think your party has enabled since leaving?

Does international law mean anything to the Conservative party any more?

HowardTJMoon · 21/06/2024 20:17

Why don't you talk about Brexit? Are you ashamed?

Tsulsaquoola · 21/06/2024 20:21

Have you actually had enough? Because from where I'm standing you seem to be deliberately trying to throw this election.

Beachballplayer · 21/06/2024 20:29

Of course he is! He even asked a homeless man what he worked as he is that out of touch with reality! Don't forget all the crap they caused with COVID! Having a good old làugh at their parties while every other bugger was stuck inside, or some had relatives dying and couldn't even visit or go to their funerals!

HowardTJMoon · 21/06/2024 20:29

When you think back to the summer of 2022 and realise that you came second place to Liz "pork markets" Truss as Prime Minister, how does that make you feel? How about when you remember that you finally became leader of the Conservative Party without anyone actually voting for you? Do you think that "last man standing" is a good way of deciding who will lead the country?

NoDishiForRishi · 21/06/2024 20:34

The NHS is on its knees, people cant see a doctor, they cant get a dentist. Schools are literally crumbling and the prisons are so full that we are facing a real problem come July. The country is demonstrably falling apart no matter how much money you claim to have thrown at each of the various issues.

It's been 14 years and all you can tell us is that Labour will 'put our taxes up by £2094' can you not see that at this point with things as bad as they are that a good chunk of people WANT to pay more tax if it means things will WORK? Thats what we pay them for isn't it? Functioning services?

HappiestSleeping · 21/06/2024 20:34

It has been widely reported that you have already enrolled your children into schools in California. This would indicate that you are either expecting to lose the election, or that you will be challenged for leadership and lose, or that you will step down.

Is it true that you have enrolled your children, and if so which of the three options are you expecting?

Moose46 · 21/06/2024 20:41

Why is National Service to be compulsory for all 18 year olds, instead of those not in work or full-time education?

I started a full time job the day after finishing my A levels, worked for a year often with overtime to fund my degree, then moved to uni straight afterwards where I also worked during each holiday. I had also volunteered with disabled people prior to this. What is your problem with that? Why would I need to do national service on top?
