MNHQ here: Got a question for Rishi Sunak?

211 replies

RhiannonEMumsnet · 21/06/2024 16:45

Hi there,

We’re pleased to tell you that next week, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will be answering questions from Mumsnet users in a written Q+A.

If you have a question you'd like answering, you can post it below. Please stick to the usual guidelines - one question per user, keep it civil, and if one topic is dominating, please don't continue to post what's effectively the same question or point (we'll be deleting questions that are repeated multiple times). We'll make sure we cover the topics that we know are important to Mumsnet users. As it’s a written Q+A without a chance for follow ups, please do include as much detail as you’d like in your questions.

We'll be closing this thread at 1pm on Sunday, so do get your questions in before that - and watch this space to hear the PM’s responses!

Thanks,
MNHQ

Last one - can you name a single piece of major legislation that was brought in by the Conservatives over the last decade that wasn't primarily motivated by Tory party in-fighting?

TaraTories · 21/06/2024 20:46

In hindsight do you think your "Eat Out To Help Out" might have contributed to the long term sickness problem our country now faces post Covid?

hobbledyhoy · 21/06/2024 21:38

Do you think that the Conservatives relentless chasing of the far right vote as a fear response to Farage, through sound bite policies such as Rwanda and threatening to leave the ECHR has actually been a dreadful mistake and has underestimated the fact that most people in this country are decent and pretty centrist?

hobbledyhoy · 21/06/2024 21:39

Also, do you think that your party is in any way responsible for the growing 'culture war' division in politics?

LifeofBrienne · 21/06/2024 22:39

Do you think it's important that government leaders are well informed on the most serious global risks? These include those relating to continuing to burn fossil fuels. For example:
The recent research that shows a significant risk that the Atlantic circulation system, which keeps the UK's climate relatively warm and temperate, will collapse within the current century because of global warming;
The potential imminent tipping point whereby the Amazon dries out and turns from a carbon sink to a carbon source;
The potential for vast quantities of greenhouse gases to be released as the permafrost warms;
The impact on agricultural yields that we are already seeing, for example crops lost to the Indian heatwave and Brazil floods, UK farmers losing crops in the recent wet winter, rising prices of southern European crops such as olive oil as drought and heatwaves become more common;
Melting trends in the Antarctic and Greenland, and the likely consequences for global sea levels.
And many more risks and current impacts of the changing climate.

My question:
Did you make sure you were up to date with all these risks and that you understood the most up to date climate science (including advice from the UK's own Climate Change Committee) before announcing last autumn that rather than following the Committee's recommendations to avoid the UK failing to meet climate targets, you would instead weaken key climate policies; and before stating your intention to drill 'every drop' of oil in the North Sea?

Noting also that North Sea oil and gas is owned by private businesses and sold on the international market (which determines prices) and therefore it is patently untrue to suggest that opening up new oilfields will lower UK household bills or help our energy security.

Explain in detail your plan for adult social care.

camelfinger · 21/06/2024 23:55

Are you a betting man?

Spirael · 21/06/2024 23:58

What, if anything, would the Conservative party do to improve the woeful / non-existant public transport in the North of the country?

1questionfromme · 22/06/2024 00:02

When was the last time you did a big shop in Tesco, or went to McDonalds, or to the cinema?

FloofPaws · 22/06/2024 00:03

SEN issues are huge at the moment but it takes 2 years for children to get help from an NHS resource. Children are absolutely at crisis, it's affecting families yet it's ignored - what will you do to help?

LordBummenbachsMagnificentBalls · 22/06/2024 00:04

Will you be expecting your own children to enlist with all the young people your party has failed through covid but now expect to prepare to fight for the country?

You4coffee · 22/06/2024 00:10

Are you the Tom Wambsgans of British politics?

slipperypenguin · 22/06/2024 00:13

Do you have sky tv?

ilovesooty · 22/06/2024 00:20

When you entered Downing Street as Prime Minister, you promised to form a government of "integrity, professionalism and accountability at every level". Can you please give us concrete examples of how you have delivered these?

Imatorturedpoet · 22/06/2024 01:39

Blackcats7 · 21/06/2024 17:04

My question is:
Do you ever reflect or even acknowledge the huge damage you do to disabled people as a minority group with your constant rhetoric about sick note culture, work shy etc? You have encouraged the public to see us as a drain on society, liars and cheats. Your party introduced PIP and made it far harder to claim than DLA but still this is not harsh enough for you. DWP’s own figures quote 0% PIP fraud. Would you like to put us all in a vast cheap workhouse or would a resurgence of the Eugenics movement be your preferred option?

This, definitely.

Needmoresleep · 22/06/2024 01:52

Do you feel let down by the lack of discipline shown by some of your MPs. Without a reasonable level of discipline, do you think a party can form an effective Government.

appyaug · 22/06/2024 02:18

You say you want to close what you call 'mickey mouse' degrees such as 'media studies'. Is this because you feel threatened that young people might learn effective tools to critically deconstruct your political spin?

ipredictariot5 · 22/06/2024 03:01

Why do you wear those juvenile friendship bracelets?
did you have lessons at Winchester on how to connect with ordinary people as if so your parents should ask for a refund
how much of your family wealth is given to charity each year
why you seem to have a particular dislike of women, the aggression towards the young woman on QT this week and the interview criticising your wife on how she loads the dishwasher being two examples

MoMo999 · 22/06/2024 03:35

Given that you claim the Tory Government did not cause inflation, why are you taking credit for bringing it down? Respected economists say this is nothing to do with Government but a function of markets, which in my experience is true.

Also why don't you take on board the views of the public to whom you are accountable, rather than representing your own views, with respect to the ECHR? The boos you received on BBC QT in this regard made quite clear that no-one wanted to leave it. I just wondered why this seems to have no impact on you?

ghostyslovesheets · 22/06/2024 05:45

Scruffily · 21/06/2024 19:21

Why do you keep calling asylum seekers illegal immigrants when you know that is untrue?

This! Does he understand it’s legal to claim asylum in the UK however you arrive ?

sashh · 22/06/2024 05:58

I paid in to a pension from being 21. I am now disabled and receive a pension. I also claim universal credit and the pension is taken out of the UC. I am below state pension age.

If I was able to work I could keep the same amount in wages.

I have a full NI record so what was the point in me paying into a pension?

CaliMZ · 22/06/2024 06:06

Yes - why do you keep saying that you have addressed the concerns of the Supreme Court on Rwanda by changing the law? Whilst it is correct that Parliament makes laws, the Supreme Court made a finding of FACT that Rwanda is not safe. Why do you think that you can change the facts? You can't. Do you accept that you when you take stances like this you come across poorly?

decionsdecisions62 · 22/06/2024 06:12

Why would a multimillionaire put himself through the forthcoming humiliation? I don't understand the psychology of that unless you feel you will benefit in some way. Have you been promised something? What is it?

Snooglequack · 22/06/2024 06:16

Did you place a sneaky bet on the election date?

Catlady51 · 22/06/2024 06:40
