MNHQ here: Got a question for Rishi Sunak?

RhiannonEMumsnet · 21/06/2024 16:45

Hi there,

We’re pleased to tell you that next week, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will be answering questions from Mumsnet users in a written Q+A.

If you have a question you'd like answering, you can post it below. Please stick to the usual guidelines - one question per user, keep it civil, and if one topic is dominating, please don't continue to post what's effectively the same question or point (we'll be deleting questions that are repeated multiple times). We'll make sure we cover the topics that we know are important to Mumsnet users. As it’s a written Q+A without a chance for follow ups, please do include as much detail as you’d like in your questions.

We'll be closing this thread at 1pm on Sunday, so do get your questions in before that - and watch this space to hear the PM’s responses!

Thanks,
MNHQ

My mum had advanced terminal cancer. Her consultant sent her to be admitted to hospital, she then spent two days on a trolley in a corridor in A&E in agony with tumours all up her spine.

How is this acceptable in one of the richest countries in the world?

JamNittyGritty · 22/06/2024 06:54

Why so against raising taxes? Public services are unable to manage on the budgets they have and the quality of services falls miserably short of being able to provide even a very basic level of care / education etc. I am sure if you asked almost anyone would they be happy to pay a few extra pounds a week to be able to access good services they would step up. Yet this continued fear mongering over this- why?

ErnestCelendine · 22/06/2024 07:10

Have you started packing already or will you do this on the 5th?

WhitegreeNcandle · 22/06/2024 07:15

How do you see the future of the Tory party in light of Reform? Is it split forever?

Also, for all the bashing politicians get I think most of you are in it for the right reasons but it must be an incredibly stressful time for you and your family. How do you cope with the stress on the family?

Dontcallmescarface · 22/06/2024 07:34

Why do you insist that you are the party of "low taxation" when we have the highest tax burden in 70 years? Do you get a kick out of gaslighting us?

Irisginger · 22/06/2024 08:50

What is better now, than in 2010, for ordinary families (note on ordinary: median household disposable income in the UK in 2022: £32,300 (source ONS)).

lovejaguar · 22/06/2024 08:51

How do you feel about taking all the blame for 14 years of Tory mismanagement and shananigans, potentially losing your seat and leading the conservative party to the lowest number of MP's for a very long time? How do you see the future for the conservatives as you could be out of power for a decade and there will be less and less of your voter base alive. The party could cease to exist.

andHelenknowsimmiserablenow · 22/06/2024 09:07

What is your real plan for the NHS if you win the election?
Our A&E departments have people sitting on floors and waiting all night to be seen.
Would you also stop the insistence of GP appointments bieng available only by calling at 8am which is unfair to working people and parents. There should be an alternative to this.

Please state your party’s and personal views on transgender rights and those of women who don’t wish to have to have their rights subjugated to a trans man’s rights

My question is:
Do you ever reflect or even acknowledge the huge damage you do to disabled people as a minority group with your constant rhetoric about sick note culture, work shy etc? You have encouraged the public to see us as a drain on society, liars and cheats. Your party introduced PIP and made it far harder to claim than DLA but still this is not harsh enough for you. DWP’s own figures quote 0% PIP fraud. Would you like to put us all in a vast cheap workhouse or would a resurgence of the Eugenics movement be your preferred option?

As a disabled person myself, I can't do better than to second this question.
I don't expect a sensible answer though.

Scruffily · 22/06/2024 10:27

We are currently in a situation where increasing numbers of children with SEND who are acknowledged to need specialist education are left in mainstream schools that cannot cope with them because there are not enough specialist placements. Why did you not prioritise funding special needs as soon as you came into power, and what would you do as a matter of urgency to remedy this situation?

Scruffily · 22/06/2024 10:29

Your manifesto promises have been costed as requiring £3K a year tax rises using the same methodology as you used in relation to Labour plans. If you don't accept that that is accurate, it follows that you don't accept the alleged £2K a year tax rises for Labour is accurate either. Will you acknowledge that?

Scruffily · 22/06/2024 10:31

What will you do to cut down on corruption, including tightening up the law on giving honours to people who make donations to political parties and controlling government contracts so that they cannot be awarded on the basis of political interests?

mupersum1 · 22/06/2024 10:45

I would love it if someone asked him, without him having time to prepare, how much a pint of milk or loaf of bread costs. I suspect he would have no idea whatsoever.

Does it bother you that people trust Larry more than they trust you?

As a former tech bro in California, just how did you lose all your Covid Whatsapps?

CharismaticMegafauna · 22/06/2024 11:14

Thousands of people are marching in London today on the Restore Nature Now march, organised by Chris Packham. The UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world. What will you do to achieve their aims?

Brilliant question.

CharismaticMegafauna · 22/06/2024 11:20

In 2022 I had to spend several weeks watching my mother suffer as she slowly died of cancer. Despite the high-quality palliative care provided by the hospice she was in (which relies on charitable donations to keep going), she was in considerable pain and discomfort. She repeatedly said she wished she could have been allowed to die with dignity had euthanasia been legal. Will assisted dying become legal as it is in other countries, such as the Netherlands?

Guavafish1 · 22/06/2024 11:22

What's it like being a billionaire?

Imatorturedpoet · 22/06/2024 13:00

When you attempt to sort out the NHS, could you ensure that we don't have to call at 8 a.m for an appointment, only to wait in a queue for a long time and be told that there are no appointments available and will have to call again tomorrow, to repeat the process again and again. We don't want to go into a pharmacy for help, we want to talk to a GP! Will you pay them enough, so that there will be more GPs training and not leaving for the private sector? On the same topic, will you ensure everyone can access an NHS dentist if required, without travelling many miles to see one? Or at the very least ensure all children can see a NHS dentist at regular intervals for checkups. Thank you.

OverthinkerTinker · 22/06/2024 13:05

I am a married woman. I have two children under the age of five. I live in a town with high deprivation. I earn just above the national average, working part time (0.6FTE) in a field that your government has negatively impacted, thanks to your funding cuts. I study. I volunteer. I don't trust your party. Unless my children choose to serve, I don't want them to do national service. The family I have who have served in our forces for over two decades do not want to see your national service plan come to fruition either.

Why should I trust you and give you my vote? How are you going to improve this country for my children?

PerfectYear321 · 22/06/2024 14:27

If I was a billionaire I would spend my life trying to make the world a better place. How do you sleep at night knowing you have the power and money to do so much good but only use it to make yourself and your family richer?

TooBigForMyBoots · 22/06/2024 14:30

Are you aware of the damage your party did to women due to your policies of Austerity, Brexit, Self ID (PM Theresa May introduced it in 2017) and PM Liz Truss's event?

It seems the only Tories who don't actively hate us, just don't care about us.
