MNHQ here: Got a question for Rishi Sunak?

RhiannonEMumsnet · 21/06/2024 16:45

Hi there,

We’re pleased to tell you that next week, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will be answering questions from Mumsnet users in a written Q+A.

If you have a question you'd like answering, you can post it below. Please stick to the usual guidelines - one question per user, keep it civil, and if one topic is dominating, please don't continue to post what's effectively the same question or point (we'll be deleting questions that are repeated multiple times). We'll make sure we cover the topics that we know are important to Mumsnet users. As it’s a written Q+A without a chance for follow ups, please do include as much detail as you’d like in your questions.

We'll be closing this thread at 1pm on Sunday, so do get your questions in before that - and watch this space to hear the PM’s responses!

Thanks,
MNHQ

Am I imaging it but back in the day didn't MNHQ interview politicians 'live' with posters asking questions that were put to the person, then the answers given, right there and then?

ToriesDelendaEst · 29/06/2024 18:13

I bet MNHQ vet the ads for this site with more rigour.

Circumferences · 29/06/2024 20:42

Loser.

mybeesarealive · 29/06/2024 21:22

There is no way on earth that Rishi Sunak wrote those answers. He may have spent 15 seconds signing something to approve them, but it's come from CCHQ. Piss poor. Why bother, and why misrepresent the level of engagement. Bring on Thursday.

Clutterbugsmum · 29/06/2024 16:20

Clearly Mumsnet has become a Tory mouthpiece, there is no time to ask any other party as it took week to do this waste of time thread.

If Mumsnet wanted to be impartial they could have put the questions to all the parties, so we could least compare the answers. Instead we got the usual lies about the 2k tax and the same crappy quotes from Sunak's imaginary plan that he thinks is working.

The only Plan Sunak seems to have is to see how badly you can an election.

Good point. At least the BBC let the main party leaders have a say. Just Sunak and no challenge on Mumsnet.

Whenwillitgetwarm · 30/06/2024 08:16

We will probably find out in due course, that Mrs Sunak has some connection to MN. Remember she has shares in that Koru Kids organisation who got a contract from government. Sunak’s are always on the take.

Zonder · 30/06/2024 08:44

That is a very good point @Whenwillitgetwarm perhaps that's why it happened.

They did...and the questions were more hard hitting. This one looks like it's done for a school project.

Westfacing · 30/06/2024 10:06

I remember a live Q&A with Idris Elba, and the naughty questions... but that's another matter!

The more I think about it, the more I think shame on Mumsnet Towers for being a mouthpiece for the Tories Angry

No fact checking, no balance (allowing Keir Starmer, let alone the other leaders) a similar opportunity Angry Quite apart from the fact that there is no evidence that it was even Sunak who wrote the pathetic answers lying soundbites Angry. It was probably just a lowly SPAD (although they're so pathetic it could just as well have been ChatGPT Hmm).

Not a good look for Mumsnet Angry

And no response from MN on this thread.

It's basically treating MNetters like 1950s housewives isn't it ?

ToriesDelendaEst · 29/06/2024 08:59

Mate.

Keep pressing the tax lie. Because if I had known I could have got rid of you and your ghastly party for only £2k, then it's a steal; it's a deal; it's sale of the fucking century.

Yup

itsjustbiology · 30/06/2024 18:32

My question...How did you ruin this country so quickly, do you have no clue or was it deliberate?

prettybird · 30/06/2024 19:14

@itsjustbiology - you're too late: questions were picked last Sunday and not "answered" on Friday. There's a link from @RhiannonEMumsnet at 19:15 on Friday to the "answers".

Don't bother wasting your time Hmm. They are distinctly underwhelming and his SPAD he just repeats the lies that he has been promulgating all campaign. I doubt Sunak ever even saw the questions Hmm

If he genuinely cared what the Mumsnetters thought and wanted to know, he'd had engaged properly in an on-line web chat - but he's probably feart of being challenged as he wouldn't be able to get away with his lies and the responses would be there in black and white. Hmm

MariaLuna · 01/07/2024 03:49

Nah, it's booking tickets and sorting housing and schools in California.....

JustineMumsnet · 01/07/2024 11:04

Hi all,
We have certainly invited Keir Starmer (at one point I was going to the W Midlands to interview him but it got called off) - I'd imagine they were worried about the "ming vase". We've also invited Ed Davey to answer your questions during this campaign, but as yet only Rishi Sunak has taken us up on the offer. And yes we did ask for the opportunity to put questions to him in person but were told he could only fit in a written Q+A. My read on the answers fwiw, particularly the personal ones, is that he would have written those himself and he certainly would have had oversight and sign off on the others.

It's always difficult to narrow the list down to just ten questions and I know it's frustrating if yours doesn’t get picked. We try to pick a selection that reflects the issues that are important to Mumsnet users but also cover things that the PM might not get asked elsewhere. There are limitations to every format but as is proved amply on this thread the idea that anyone gets an easy ride is simply not true.

Erm, no we categorically won't!

Prawncow · 01/07/2024 12:41

Labour or the Lib Dems would be flooded with questions on trans people from the FWR board. Why would they come on here?

yes I'm sure that's a factor though we do have rules around not continuing to focus on a single issue and we would enforce them

AlwaysFreezing · 01/07/2024 17:15

My read on the answer you've given @JustineMumsnet is that you don't actually know if the Prime Minister answered them himself.

Which, respectfully, isn't good enough. The difference between this format and others is that certainty around who is answering the questions.

You can't say the Prime Minyer has answered Mumsnetters questions with any certainty.

I think this is really important.

Prawncow · 01/07/2024 17:55

I think this is really important.

It really isn’t. The questions were up for ages so the answers were prepared by a team.

PerfectYear321 · 01/07/2024 21:44

Wow, that was a load of bullshit. What a waste of time

Scruffily · 01/07/2024 21:57

It's so frustrating not to be able to post follow ups. For instance, on this one:\

"As for my parents and wider family, they share the huge gratitude I feel towards our country. My grandparents came to Britain with next to nothing, and two generations later I’m sitting here as your Prime Minister. That's the mark of an exceptional country"

I want to ask why he wants to stop other refugees having the same opportunity. And when he goes on about racism, I want to know why it's unacceptable against him but absolutely fine when it's his party members being racist to Sadiq Khan and Diane Abbott.

PerfectYear321 · 02/07/2024 01:37

This Prime Minister is an absolute disgrace. A real one would read this whole thread, but I would bet my house that this charlatan hasn't. He probably didn't read a single question and got a lackey to reply to the vetted questions. Who here would be surprised to find out this was the case? Not a single person.

He doesn't give a fuck.
