drug dependant baby, advice needed

EarthMotherImNot · 03/03/2010 15:20

I've been asked to foster a baby expected to be suffering drug withdrawal when it is born next week.

It is years since I've cared for one of these and any advice would be most gratefully received.

Yes, Emin {Earth Mother I'm Not} was a truly heroic woman.
A gift to traumatised babies.

When I'd read that Emin had died, I cried.

If anyone is in Heaven , it will be people like her - A wonderful woman. 🌟 🙏 👶

Thank you @80smonster, despite the fact that it will be 11 years this September since she passed, mum still very much remains an inspiration to us and we always gather in her memory to celebrate the good times. Sometimes that will be at her favourite restaurant, other times we will just get a meal from her favourite take out.

Mum would have been very humbled by the amount of messages on her old thread and more so if she was able to help anyone as a result of her experiences. All she ever wanted was to be a mother and even after having me and my two siblings, she had more love to give and fostering, despite the challenges it brings, was something she absolutely cherished.

Although my dad still receives correspondence and photographs from the adoptive parents of a few of the children they fostered, there haven’t been any updates for this particular child. I did check in with my dad before replying just in case.

Thanks again for your kind words, and those of everyone else who has commented over the years ❤️

I am so incredibly sad.

ive just taken my first dip in MN classics and read the is thread.

made it 90% through until the time came to give her back and I bawled.

and then bawled again when I see she has sadly passed away really not long after caring for this baby.

what an absolute angel. RIP EMIN. 😭💜

Cried way too much when I read this thread for the first time. Cried even more when I'd realised Emin had died.

She'll be 16 years old next month. I hope it will indeed be a sweet 16th birthday.

It’s lovely people are still finding the thread and realising there are some really amazing people out there.

I try and be more EMIN xx

I was lurking here when EMIN first posted it, and revisit it occasionally as, despite losing EMIN by the end of it, it is very life-affirming and even though it always makes me cry, it makes me happy to know that there were and are people like EMIN in the world. Thank you to all of you, you are the ones who make the world a better place.
