drug dependant baby, advice needed

EarthMotherImNot · 03/03/2010 15:20

I've been asked to foster a baby expected to be suffering drug withdrawal when it is born next week.

It is years since I've cared for one of these and any advice would be most gratefully received.

Just read the whole thread. What a truly inspirational woman. All them beautiful babies given the best start because of Emin. I've cried tears of sadness and joy throughout my read and now more sadness.

Emin's family must be so proud of her for being the amazing lady she is.

❤️ 🌹

I first read this thread when I joined MN about 18 months ago and sobbed. Have since reread it and sobbed again. What an amazing, truly special woman EMIN was and what a tragedy that she was taken from her family. She gave so much love to ensure better lives for her foster babies. What a wonderful legacy she leaves behind. Mr EMIN was pretty special too.

LittleMissSpendy · 03/12/2017 16:13

Such a touching thread. I only just saw it mentioned in the aibu classic thread and read from start to finish.it takes a lot to make me cry but this has had me weeping.im off work looking after my.sick lo and I think emin must have been a wonderful person to give so much of herself to others. The story of her and her husband and lo is a real testament to the impact foster carers have and is very inspiriring.

Ok, this thread is ancient, but compassion never fades..

The story of ''Ladybird'' has made me cry too... It is just terrible the damage wrought to innocent babies by mothers who continue to use substances when pregnant..
Earth Mother did such a wonderful job, and the very early care she gave to Ladybird will hopefully have helped ameliorate the physical pain the poor baby suffered from drug withdrawals.
I too have seen women lose child after child, it seems they can't nurture, or think of anything apart from their partners/drugs...and tragically these are so often young women who have had ''mothers'' of a similar feckless type.. and so the cycle continues.
They have umpteen babies removed, yet still get pregnant, unaware of the distress they cause.
Babies who go to loving experienced foster homes are fortunate..there may well be a chance of the slate being wiped clean, of the cycle not repeating itself if these young babies are given stability and security from the very earliest days.
I am no social worker, but surely being removed from a stable loving foster family to adoptive one must on some level be noted by even a very young baby.
Babies are so easily conceived by the feckless it seems, and then there are those with so much love to give who for whatever reason cannot have biological children, it does seem an unfair world sometimes.
A wonderful family near us used to foster, and one lad stayed with them for so long and fitted in so well that they were able to adopt him...and a fine young man he turned out to be.
Fosterers do a very special job, and it is far from easy..hats off to you all.

oakleaffy · 29/04/2018 20:49

NO.......... Flipped to the end of the thread, and just saw that Earth Mother is no more.... Tears afresh, what a wonderfully kind woman, an Earth Angel for sure. Wherever she is, I'm, sure her good energy exists..

whiteroseredrose · 24/05/2018 21:57

Ah I remember this thread from 2010,
EMIN was an amazing person and has inspired many people to become foster carers
Great that it's been put in classics, when I think of Mumsnet, this is the thread that epitomises what is good about Mumsnet

Laid next to my lo who is blissfully asleep and reading how EMIN's lo & mine were the same weights and thinking about my lo crawling. 😥😥😥
Rest in eternal peace you amazing, amazing woman.
You have made me even more determined to take up fostering.
