Shit... 99% sure Guinea Pig is pregnant

Bit of a disaster... I lost one of my two lovely girls at the start of December. We were devastated, they were like two peas in a pod. I had a post on here at the time.

After just over a week I figured I needed to get another Guinea pig to keep my remaining one happy. Bought from a pet store as we don't have any rescues.... and I'm 99% sure the baby is pregnant 😡

Can't get her in to see the Vet until Tuesday morning.

She's had no vet care during pregnancy, haven't been feeding her any supplements. She was 8 weeks when she came to us, so young to be having babies. We've had her 55 days.

What the hell do I do now?

If they have babies will that make you dgm??

I guess so! I would hope I'd at least be a piggie godmother! 😅 It's coming up to their 1st birthday soon so I'll see if I can pop round with a nice bunch of greens for them and take some piggie pics! 🥰

Thanks for updating. Didn’t those pigs grow up to be absolutely gorgeous? And lovely that your older pig bonded with one of them

Onlyadaughter · 07/01/2025 22:35

What lovely chonky piggies they are now! Glad you found a fab home for them.

AlleycatMarie · 07/01/2025 22:37

Thank you so much for this wonderful update and beautiful pictures!!

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 08/01/2025 07:22

This has really made me smile. Thank you for sharing them.

JulesJules · 08/01/2025 07:42

Ah @InAPickle12345 Thank you so much for the update! Lovely to see all the piggies happy and settled.

user1494050295 · 08/01/2025 07:46

Your girlies are gorgeous

Diplidocus4 · 08/01/2025 10:39

Thank you 😊

iloveeverykindofcat · 08/01/2025 12:14

Oh my gosh OP they are huge and magnificent now!

CoffeeWithCheese · 08/01/2025 14:30

Oh one of those threads you're so grateful for a delayed action update on! Love red-eyed piggies - one of mine has red eyes but unfortunately looks like the lovechild of Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak!

TinselAngel · 08/01/2025 14:56

I'm so pleased to see this update as when updates stopped quite abruptly I thought the GPs must have all eaten each other or some other terrible disaster that the OP didn't want to relate.

enchantedsquirrelwood · 08/01/2025 16:12

How lovely, thanks for the update OP! And sorry to hear about your bereavement.

HeadShoulderHipsandCalves · 09/01/2025 19:17

Sorry to read about your bereavements.

I love their setup. Piggies were my children's first animals - I have lovely memories of their weeking little selves!

Hi everyone 👋 Just as an update, and a final chapter to this thread:

Aunty Pig crossed the rainbow bridge this morning. She went downhill extremely quickly in the last 7 to 10 days. Shes always been a lovely big chonk, and she lost weight so rapidly I knew something was wrong. She lost clumps of hair on the side of her non working leg and seemed really lethargic the last 2 days, so we had a lovely night last night and slept in the sitting room with her on the sofa and this morning brought her to our vet. Shes home and will be buried tomorrow with her favourite snake teddy.

Our other girl, Biscuit… one of the babies you read about being born in this thread, is in great health. I’m ready to step off the guinea pig wheel for a while, so she will now be reunited with her mother, and 2 sisters that a local woman adopted if you remember!

Im very sad this evening, but the right decision was made. And my guinea pig bond was exceptionally strong with my first 2, I adored both. Now that they’re both gone, im ready for a break

Thanks for all the support and for sharing in the joy of guinea pigs with me! ❤️

I'm sorry to read this OP. Sorry for your loss. Flowers
I recall your original post and followed it daily. Sending thoughts your way xxx

enchantedsquirrelwood · 25/04/2026 18:18

Oh this is sad but also good to know that Biscuit is doing well. I remember this thread, one of the best on MN along with the hedgehog in the bath!

Mylittlepea · 25/04/2026 19:37

I remember too….

its surprisingly hard. Never thought I’d get upset over a piggy but ours went up to piggy heaven just over a year ago and she is still missed now, also spent a last few hours with her before she went, they go downhill fast 🐹🐹🐹
big hugs to you x

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 25/04/2026 19:40

Ah, sorry to read your update and Aunty Pig going over the bridge 💐😔.

Its sad for Biscuit losing her second mum too but good that she'll still have company and it being her mum and sisters, and you know she's going to a good home.

I learned so much about guinea pigs from your thread, thanks for sharing it all with us.

Advice400 · 25/04/2026 20:39

Oh :(

I remember this thread fondly

Meadowy · 25/04/2026 22:04

Sorry to hear this 💐. I remember your thread so well - can’t believe it is over two years ago.

FlyingPandas · 25/04/2026 22:43

So sorry to hear this, @InAPickle12345 Losing a piggy is always so sad. Glad Biscuit will be reunited with mum and sisters. Sending you the proverbial "unmumsnetty hug" x

AlleycatMarie · 25/04/2026 23:56

I’m so sorry to read this, but what a wonderful life and energy you gave her ❤️
