Shit... 99% sure Guinea Pig is pregnant

Bit of a disaster... I lost one of my two lovely girls at the start of December. We were devastated, they were like two peas in a pod. I had a post on here at the time.

After just over a week I figured I needed to get another Guinea pig to keep my remaining one happy. Bought from a pet store as we don't have any rescues.... and I'm 99% sure the baby is pregnant 😡

Can't get her in to see the Vet until Tuesday morning.

She's had no vet care during pregnancy, haven't been feeding her any supplements. She was 8 weeks when she came to us, so young to be having babies. We've had her 55 days.

What the hell do I do now?

Oh, they are just too adorable. You are keeping them al, right, OP?

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 20/02/2024 10:48

Found this thread last night and 100% not going anywhere. I will need piggy updates for the rest of my life!

Mamadothehump · 20/02/2024 11:04

I had no idea baby piggies came out looking so perfect! Just adorable!! Well done Mummy Pig! And you - you sound like the best piggy owner over!!!

Blacksheepcat · 20/02/2024 11:06

Love this thread. I’m so invested in the babies futures now! I bloody love Guinea Pigs and miss my Milly and Molly pigs. They do take a lot of looking after though and need lots of attention and company.

Thank you for sharing the photos, they are gorgeous!

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 20/02/2024 11:23

I love that you're weighing to monitor them OP, bless your wonderful heart!

I was thinking a little webcam would be very helpful for all of us godmothers to keep an eye on them when home alone but quickly realised that would be a terrible idea as no doubt we'd all be sacked for not concentrating at our day jobs!

Windydaysandwetnights · 20/02/2024 11:27

Have you finalised names yet? Surely their Little Red Books need names on??

Babies, Mom and Auntie are home alone today 😫 There should be some sort of pig maternity leave us owners can avail of 😅

Here's a few quick snaps I was able to take before rushing out the door, have a great day all you lovely ladies ❤️

Can I just say this has been the most wonderful post. I love your love of guinea pigs! Often Mumsnet threads can have some awful comments in, but it's been so refreshing to see everyone sharing the love. They are gorgeous, well done mum and well done you.

Just emailed Mumsnet (withdrawing a very tired reply on here that didn't make sense), and asked how you get threads moved to Classics.

"You certainly aren't the only MNer to have nominated this lovely thread and it's already on our list for consideration of the Mumsnet Classics Committee! ...
But if any other MNer would like to nominate the thread, they can do this by either hitting report on the opening post or by dropping us a mail at [email protected] and we'll add their nominations to the growing pile... "

MN HQ poster added she was a GP fan and owner herself :-)

Mummy Pig, you're FAMOUS :-)

Does Momma Pig breastfeed?

Apologies if I’m not using the pig appropriate term here, I’m very much pig ignorant 😀 they are so sweet though!

You mean 'pignorant' !

Moonlightdust · 20/02/2024 14:44

They are so cute 🥰 I have always wanted Guinea pigs. As a child I grew up with dogs, cats, rabbits and hamsters. My children have had hamsters (as I’m a bit of an expert on them now!) and I contemplated getting GPs but I know from extensive research how demanding they are and I sadly don’t think my DH would be on board with them 😞 We just have a beautiful cat now but it’s lovely seeing your thread. Do keep us updated OP x

HopeMumsnet · 20/02/2024 14:54

Ta-daaaah! And now you're in Classics for ever and ever.

Congrstukations!!!

At least you had some time to get used to the idea they were on the way.

Many years ago someone dropped a box of for a housemate, containing a let mouse. She was expecting it, and popped it in with the moses she already had. Next morning she found the new one had had babies!! Luckily the new mum was fine that there was an Aunty Mouse around, and Aunty was very happy to help out!

Yes…we lived on the edge of a farm and our female rabbit got out.
Obviously had a great time out in the fields…bunnies born without us knowing!

( the farmer thought it hilarious, us ‘townies’ with no clue - he bought us a Christmas present ‘101 Rabbit Stories’! 😂)

Soubriquet · 20/02/2024 15:36

Ooooo well done! You made classics!

aquarimum · 20/02/2024 16:16

Hurrah!! Immortal fame unlocked 😂

Just me hoping this is the beginning of a guinea pig dynasty?

Oh my goodness! Ladies, we made the Classics!!! 😅

I'm way more chuffed about this than I have right to be 🤣

Thanks so much everyone for all the advice, concern, love and joy that you have shared on this thread... it really has been the best place to be on MN this past week and has helped me, and unexpected Guinea Granny, more than you can imagine... you're all just so fabulous ❤️

And Momma is just delighted that she, and her brood, are now famous! 😅

(These photos were way more difficult to take than you could imagine... we did our best! 🙈)

heathspeedwell · 20/02/2024 18:39

Thank you so much for all the photos. Have you ever read the World's End series by Monica Dickens by any chance? She is Charles Dicken's very talented granddaughter and she wrote some captivating books about a family of children who rescued lots of animals and I seem to remember that 'gine piges' featured in that.
