Shit... 99% sure Guinea Pig is pregnant

Bit of a disaster... I lost one of my two lovely girls at the start of December. We were devastated, they were like two peas in a pod. I had a post on here at the time.

After just over a week I figured I needed to get another Guinea pig to keep my remaining one happy. Bought from a pet store as we don't have any rescues.... and I'm 99% sure the baby is pregnant 😡

Can't get her in to see the Vet until Tuesday morning.

She's had no vet care during pregnancy, haven't been feeding her any supplements. She was 8 weeks when she came to us, so young to be having babies. We've had her 55 days.

What the hell do I do now?

Aw I saw that article and it made me think of this thread!

Hope everyone’s Piggies are doing well!

Aww poor DiscoPig !
Though being left at a busy Underground Station in a cage with a note - I suppose at least he'd be found but no guarentee of his safety when he was found .

One of our boars was "dumped" at boarding . Apparently it happens a lot . People who know they don't want them back will put them in for a "holiday" .....then not return.
At least our boy wasn;t dumped in a park , or put on Gumtree . He was in a place where he was fed and looked after . Then when he was officially surrendered , castrated and re-homed .
And we got him to marry two of our sows .

@InAPickle12345 How are the babies doing? Pics? Getting worried as we’ve heard nothing for weeks now. Hope all is ok?

fancyfrogs · 06/04/2024 11:56

Hope the piggies are doing ok! And wondering if you decided to keep them all in the end GrinGrin

OP has gone very quiet. I hope the greedy piglets haven't eaten her.

<<Clutches Pearls - when our piggies accidently bit us because our hands smelled of vegetables you could almost hear them spit out loud Yeah gods , SKIN >>
Part of their endearing charm -apart from being lazy , greedy, thick as mince and sweet tempered is them being vegetarian

OP has maybe gone to cut fresh grass and dandelions and is now lying in a ditch with the piggies going "Well this just isn't good enough, we are literally wasting away , four hours since our last meal , we're having to eke out this mammoth pile of hay to survive"

What a gorgeous thread, just came to it via Justine's Mumsnet Unwrapped 2024 email this morning.

We used to have piggies when I was little, mainly because my Mum who was a teacher used to rescue 'school guinea pigs' - they would come home for the holidays and never go back 😁

InAPickle12345 · 07/01/2025 21:37

Hey folks!!!

Just saw that @JulesJules resurrected this thread over the Christmas time and thought I'd update!

(Sorry I didn't keep updating the thread, life got in the way and unfortunately had bereavements and other things to contend with)

So... I ended up keeping all the babies for 6 months! My goodness they were such a handful but what fun ☺️ Turned out at all 3 of the babies were girls!

At the 6 month mark I knew it was time to start looking for homes, I was running out of space and the work in keeping them all happy, healthy, clean and fed was really getting on top of me. So I reached out on a local notice board looking for a suitable home.

Got loads of absolute weirdos looking to take them as food for snakes 😱 Others with unsuitable housing... it took forever to find a lovely home, but we got there in the end.

My older girl really bonded with one of the babies, Biscuit (Not Toupee for anyone who followed the thread!) who still follows her around like a shadow, so we decided to keep them together and we rehomed Mom with her other two girls.

They now live in a lovely garden locally and are very much loved by the most fabulous couple! They have a gorgeous outdoor set up and an indoor set up for when the weather gets cold and are very very happy. They also joined another 2 female pigs so they have a little herd of 5 now 🥹❤️

Here's some pics of them all the day they left home, they grew up to be the most stunning little piggies, all with the most amazing red eyes! And there's a pic of their new outdoor set up as well.

I check in with their new family occasionally and all are doing so well, they love their new home and the freedom in their big enclosure 🥰

Re-read this whole thread just now and honestly shed a few tears... it was such a magical time and you were all so incredibly supportive, I can't thank you all enough ❤️❤️❤️

Hope everyone and their piggies are keeping great and had a lovely Christmas

Love to you all from Pickle, Pip and Biscuit xxx

Awww what a lovely update (though sorry to hear of bereavements Flowers)

Beautiful piggies OP and wow what an amazing set up you found for them! I'd better not show that pic to my girls or they'll be getting very judgy about the inferiority of their own home and will start demanding extra parsley Grin

RandomMess · 07/01/2025 21:57
