Shit... 99% sure Guinea Pig is pregnant

Bit of a disaster... I lost one of my two lovely girls at the start of December. We were devastated, they were like two peas in a pod. I had a post on here at the time.

After just over a week I figured I needed to get another Guinea pig to keep my remaining one happy. Bought from a pet store as we don't have any rescues.... and I'm 99% sure the baby is pregnant 😡

Can't get her in to see the Vet until Tuesday morning.

She's had no vet care during pregnancy, haven't been feeding her any supplements. She was 8 weeks when she came to us, so young to be having babies. We've had her 55 days.

What the hell do I do now?

Just found this thread. All the GPs are adorable. Can someone tell me what popcorning is? Know very little about GPs.

My google history for the last few days has basically been;
'What are baby GPs called?'
'How long are GPs pregnant for?'
'How do I know if a GP is in labour?'
(these during the white knuckle wait)
'What is GP popcorning?'
'What is GP wheeking?'
'What's the weather like in my town today?' (because apparently I have to go outside and away from MN occasionally).

:-)

I have never had GPs but like others have learnt a lot from this thread! They are so cute 😍
Congratulations OP and mummy pig!

HowDoWeDoThisPlease · 19/02/2024 11:02

I seriously love this thread!❤️

greengreengrass25 · 19/02/2024 11:40

I still want gps and miss them so much despite the mess

Ithinkitstimeforbed · 19/02/2024 13:30

How are the babies and family doing today @InAPickle12345 ? Hope all had a good night and are all wheeking away today 💕

LenaLamont · 19/02/2024 14:53

I've been feeling miserable with Covid and haven't caught up for a day or two. Hat a wonderfuol gift to see Momma Pop and her three darling wee piggies! Auntie Pip is doing a wonderfuo job of helping too.

@InAPickle12345, you are going to have to keep at least one baby if there's a girl. That way, in the (very far off distant future) when Auntie passes, you'll have two GPs of similar ages to keep each other company.

They do pine dreadfully when alone as they naturally live in herds.

mushroom3 · 19/02/2024 15:42

I think looking at the photos, 1 & 2 are girls and 3 is a boy

greengreengrass25 · 19/02/2024 16:06

Yes I think so too

Blondie is female

TheFairyCaravan · 19/02/2024 17:48

We lost both our piggies last year and aren’t getting anymore because I can’t look after them properly due to my health. I now want more after reading this thread.

Such beautiful babies, mummy and auntie 🐹

Babies and Momma are all doing great! I was WFH today... but there was very little work done if truth be told 😅

My god, they're flipping adorable. Just popcorning and zooming around the cage, they're so fast and full of mischief! Auntie seems a bit wrecked from them, she'd be snoozing in the hay and you can see them creeping up on her, in what they must think is stealth mode 😅 She gives them a little nudge to clear them off every now and again. I've taken her out for some cuddles throughout the day to get a bit of a break, I think she's appreciated it!

Only one so far has been curious about the water bottle, I must look up some info on when they start to drink water properly... any advice on this appreciated!

I might soften some kibble as well soon and see if they have any interest it. Haven't shown any interest yet in veggies either, just the hay, which presumably is all they really need when Momma is feeding them.

All in all, everything is going great and I'm just in awe of nature and how Momma and her babies just instinctively know what to do. It's such a beautifully pure and joyful thing to watch ❤️

This happened us too when our piggy was same age. She shared the cage with her sister who we did have to separate as she was trying to take over . It was hard to put them back together (fighting ) after the babies left at 5 weeks. Try leaving the pigs together but keep eye out if mum isnt the dominant one .

mum delivered babies fine and they were soo cute . No need for any vet input.

walkingback · 19/02/2024 18:35

What an uplifting thread! Congratulations on your new arrivals ❤️

Kentucky83 · 19/02/2024 18:36

This is such a lovely thread in amongst all the family drama etc... on here (not that those threads aren't helpful to people, of course!). You seem like a caring and responsible person owner and I'm sure all the guineas are in safe ha ds with you. Good luck!

They will do once they realise how noisy a water bottle can be ar 3am Grin

Ours rarely touched a water bottle , they did like the 2am lets wake them up by chewing this when they were indoors.
Otherwise they got plenty fluids from veg (as the pee patches demonstrated handsomely )

Piglets like to sit in the pellets bowl too .

Bookloverjay · 19/02/2024 18:56

Oh my goodness. I love all of them.
Congratulations on the babies.

Thank you for sharing a heart warming story. Made my smile 😃

No No No No No No ...Nooooooooo

That sort of thinking is not welcome on this Happy Piggie Thread.

^Escorts will off the thread with a firm hand at their collar and a boot up the bum.

Oh my god, this is so true... the chomping on the wooden houses can sound like there's construction work going on next door 😅

And Momma pig is already the loudest drinker I've ever heard... I really hope they learn to use the bottle from Auntie pig, she is far more considerate in her drinking habits. As I type, Momma is noising away on the water bottle and I'm convinced she's not even trying, or wanting, to drink the water 😅

I won't panic at the water just yet, or the kibble and veggies, presumably the first few days are mostly feeding from Mum.

Haven't got any new pics to share but I'm going to weigh them all in the morning again before work and I'll post some pics to brighten your days! ❤️

Honestly don't understand why you'd come here making comments like this. Whatever makes you happy I suppose but I can guarantee the rest of us are FAR happier revelling in the loveliness that is baby Guinea pigs. Hope you find some joy in your life.
