Shit... 99% sure Guinea Pig is pregnant

Bit of a disaster... I lost one of my two lovely girls at the start of December. We were devastated, they were like two peas in a pod. I had a post on here at the time.

After just over a week I figured I needed to get another Guinea pig to keep my remaining one happy. Bought from a pet store as we don't have any rescues.... and I'm 99% sure the baby is pregnant 😡

Can't get her in to see the Vet until Tuesday morning.

She's had no vet care during pregnancy, haven't been feeding her any supplements. She was 8 weeks when she came to us, so young to be having babies. We've had her 55 days.

What the hell do I do now?

Came in and spotted this thread , heartwarming and delightful , lovely to read .

MrsMitford3 · 18/02/2024 17:19

omg they are so cute!!!!!

would be so easy to keep them I suspect...

Daisymay2 · 18/02/2024 17:25

Oh don't. The landlady of the local pub has upgraded her hutch to a mega omlet run plus home, and is giving the first one away. It is so tempting to start GP parenting again.

Daleksatemyshed · 18/02/2024 17:29

Only found your thread today so missed the wait for the babies. They are so cute! Can you really bring yourself to give them away? I think 5 is a lovely number for Gp's, a very round agreeable number. Keep them, keep them all- you know you want to. (This is the reason I never let my cat have kittens, I would have kept them all)

Yes, I think I'll have to wait until I have DS with me and at least I'll have two hands to try and manoeuvre them and keep them steady 👍

Sounds good👍 I keep looking again. Now I reckon you might have 2 girls and a boy, or possibly all girls😅 I just can't decide. I used to be confident at it (I remember just one newborn that I struggled to tell) but it's a lot easier in person!

BotterMon · 18/02/2024 17:59

Oh they are scrumptious! My DSis put her piggy with her best friends piggy for a 'play date' - they were both girls; except they weren't! We suddenly had 5 piggies and couldn't believe how big, hairy and adult looking the babies were.

Enjoy your babies!

HangingStars · 18/02/2024 18:02

What gorgeous surprise piggies!! You sound like such a good Piggie Gran

Guineapig123 · 18/02/2024 18:09

They are so adorable, I can’t believe how big they are born!
These are my fatties 😂

Minfilia · 18/02/2024 18:12

Adorable!

We had a similar scenario with a different exotic pet (micro squirrels) and ended up with 4 extra a week after bringing them home 🤦‍♀️

One of the babies didn’t make it sadly but the other three did well and we rehomed them privately rather than returning them.

SomethingUniqueThisTime · 18/02/2024 18:13

I think 1&2 are girls, and third is a boy. But not 100% sure.

DrunkenElephant · 18/02/2024 18:22

This thread is amazing! Can’t believe I’ve only just found it 😍

I want one!!

I have never heard of a micro squirrel/African dormouse but I now want a whole colony of them. They're so cute!

Just found this thread! How utterly de-lovely!! 🥰
When I was a kid, I was gifted a very young pregnant pig. My parents had no idea... she had 3 babies like yours.
We already had a Dowager pig who became VERY maternal towards the new Momma. Happy memories...
Congratulations, OP, such beautiful babies!

TiredCatLady · 18/02/2024 18:40

So adorable 🥹. Probably not compatible with the cats but still ❤️

lazyarse123 · 18/02/2024 18:42

They're gorgeous. We bought 3 girls years ago and one was pretty fat and we actually asked if she was pregnant. No they said she's just a bit older than the rest. Well they lived outside and I went to feed them and there were 4 babies I just shouted "oh look" and this grumpy male voice shouted back "we're not keeping them", didn't know he was psychic. He got that wrong and had to build another hutch because 3 of them were boys.

AuContraire · 18/02/2024 18:44

Thank you for the photos OP!

Riapia · 18/02/2024 18:46

I had cats and guinea pigs at the same time..

InAPickle12345 · 18/02/2024 18:48

The babies are now up and around, wheeking, eating hay and popcorning around the cage... 12 hours old, just incredible!

Congratulations! They are adorable. Who knew that baby piglets would be so big 😵

Cherrysherbet · 18/02/2024 18:51

Aww they are adorable op. I love piggies 🥰

WimbyAce · 18/02/2024 19:05

Just stumbled across this thread! I had various piggies between the age of 13 and 30ish, I love them! Only stopped getting more when we had kids as you say they are a lot of work to look after them properly. Made me want them again now!

PinkPanther50 · 18/02/2024 19:05

Awh congratulations all round! I’ve only just found this thread so I didn’t have the suspense you’ve all had 😂
