Shit... 99% sure Guinea Pig is pregnant

Bit of a disaster... I lost one of my two lovely girls at the start of December. We were devastated, they were like two peas in a pod. I had a post on here at the time.

After just over a week I figured I needed to get another Guinea pig to keep my remaining one happy. Bought from a pet store as we don't have any rescues.... and I'm 99% sure the baby is pregnant 😡

Can't get her in to see the Vet until Tuesday morning.

She's had no vet care during pregnancy, haven't been feeding her any supplements. She was 8 weeks when she came to us, so young to be having babies. We've had her 55 days.

What the hell do I do now?

I have just read through this entire thread and just want to say how uplifting and full of joy it is. It’s very life affirming to witness hundreds of women so happy to follow and enjoy the pregnancy and birth of beautiful little Guinea Pigs. I wish all these lovely piggies a safe, content and healthy life. Thank you for sharing this OP.

Isn't it just! In a world that can be so tough and stressful, and a place like MN that can sometimes be quite harsh, it has just been so lovely and heartwarming to have all of these women cheering on a little Guinea pig and her babies. Joy can be found in such unexpected places and this thread, and these babies, have brought me oodles of joy this past week 🥰

Lifelong guinea fan here (we have three gorgeous girls atm) and can't believe I've only just stumbled on this thread! We have just come back from holiday, our guineas are currently being pampered at their lovely pet boarding place, and all these beautiful pictures and stories are making me desperate to go and get our piggies asap!

What beautiful babies OP and well done mummy (and aunty) pig. Baby guineas are heart-melting. Many many years ago my DSis and I persuaded our parents that to mate our single girl piggie with one of our boars would be a Good Thing because she might then have a baby girl who could live with her and be a long term companion....

Girl piggie dutifully produced a beautiful female baby who did indeed stay living with her and became her long term companion. She also produced two gorgeous baby boys and of course we ended up getting an additional hutch for the boys so that we could keep them all Grin

i think you should call one Joy.

This thread is bad for me. We've only one piggy left after cycle of replacing one with baby when one dies. we decided that was it. Guinea pigs are not usually happy on their own but this one has seen off two others and is much happier on his own. He's now a lardy seven year old who seems to bounce back from every blip that we think is going to finish him off!
I do miss all the popcorning though, and this particular Guinea pig we have now has never really wheeked.
It's so tempting to see if you have baby boy that needs rehoming...am secretly hoping the one with the white whorl on his head is a boy Wink

Joy would be a great name!

BingoMarieHeeler · 18/02/2024 19:56

God I love guinea pigs. Definitely thought they’d come out more feeble and blind and hairless than that!! Crazy!! So cute.

Uricon2 · 18/02/2024 19:57

Just finished reading the thread and thank you so much OP. Pigs are the absolute best and one day I'll have them again...

Love to you, Mommapig, Auntie and the babies.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 18/02/2024 20:00

I have never heard of a micro squirrel/African dormouse but I now want a whole colony of them. They're so cute!

They really are super cute!

I just think they’re adorable, and so funny to watch, they’re arboreal so love trees and climbing and have a really tall and wide enclosure.

Quite high maintenance though, they need to have daily syrup, fresh fruit and insects and a heater in their cage. Even guinea pig babies are easier 😂

I can’t believe how big the wee babies are though, how did they ever fit inside their mum?!

well this thread was an unexpected joy!

Skiphopbump · 18/02/2024 20:26

I agree that Joy would be a fitting name for one of the baby pigs.

Mynaddmawr · 18/02/2024 20:29

I just want to say thankyou because I've had quite a stressful day and reading this thread has cheered me up so much. You are a wonderful guinea pig mum @InAPickle12345 , and so are many of the PPs ❤ genuinely heart warming. Beautiful baby piggies!

SwishSwishBisch · 18/02/2024 20:29

I’ve never been happier to stumble into a thread on here than this one! How wonderful, and what sweet little piggies!

starfishmummy · 18/02/2024 20:30

Congrstukations!!!

At least you had some time to get used to the idea they were on the way.

Many years ago someone dropped a box of for a housemate, containing a let mouse. She was expecting it, and popped it in with the moses she already had. Next morning she found the new one had had babies!! Luckily the new mum was fine that there was an Aunty Mouse around, and Aunty was very happy to help out!

SomethingUniqueThisTime · 18/02/2024 20:32

There is a special something about Guinea pigs, just looking at one makes me smile however grumpy, stressed or down I feel. Blessed creatures.😍
