Shit... 99% sure Guinea Pig is pregnant

Bit of a disaster... I lost one of my two lovely girls at the start of December. We were devastated, they were like two peas in a pod. I had a post on here at the time.

After just over a week I figured I needed to get another Guinea pig to keep my remaining one happy. Bought from a pet store as we don't have any rescues.... and I'm 99% sure the baby is pregnant 😡

Can't get her in to see the Vet until Tuesday morning.

She's had no vet care during pregnancy, haven't been feeding her any supplements. She was 8 weeks when she came to us, so young to be having babies. We've had her 55 days.

What the hell do I do now?

They are gorgeous. We had Guinea pigs as a child and without knowing mum gave birth and just left the pups outside in the cold and we had to hand rear them. They were so cute and became so tame

Now, now Aquarium. We shouldn't be expecting the poor woman to snap back to her pre-baby figure straight after birth. She needs to sit around, eating hay and watching Piggy Netflix, not worrying about her appearance.

They are gorgeous 🥰

You’re quite right 😄

I am just curious to see what’s left of Mummy Pig after 3 enormous babies!

ymemanresu · 18/02/2024 14:53

Congratulations, really made me smile 😊

Mum Piggy is on "Trending"

And how decent of her to have the pigletties on a Sunday so you can enjoy them (and spoil her rotten !)

LauderSyme · 18/02/2024 15:12

Oh, so exciting and marvellous! How cute are they?! Well done Mummy Pig💖

Until your thread I had not considered myself much of a guinea pig disciple. I am well and truly converted.

mushroom3 · 18/02/2024 15:18

Congratulation mummy pig. What beautiful babies. Toffee, fudge and biscuit?

Wallywobbles · 18/02/2024 15:21

Are you absolutely sure that aunty pig couldn't be daddy pig?

Ellmau · 18/02/2024 15:23

The one with the white splodge on top should be Cupcake.

If she's actually a daddy pig it will be very obvious😄 guinea pigs have rather large testicles when fully grown!

WhatsitWiggle · 18/02/2024 16:16

Oh my word, they are so cute 😍

Hope mummy pig isn't too shocked given her young age.

VerityUnreasonble · 18/02/2024 16:18

Yay for the herd!

Congratulations to all, Mum, Auntie and to you OP. What a wonderful start and welcome to the world you have given them.

InAPickle12345 · 18/02/2024 16:25

I had to go have a little nap... you'd swear I was the one who'd had the babies 🤣 Just back from the shop and picked up some strawberries for Momma and Aunty and some Cava for me 🍓🥂🤣

Definitely sure that my older girl is not actually a boy @Wallywobbles! Have had my other girl nearly 5 years now and she's been closely monitored by a specialist vet all that time... and as @JDJT pointed out, their boy bits are hard to miss 😅

Going to try and get some snaps of the pups' nethers now while the girls are chomping on strawberries @JDJT, let's see if we can figure out what we've got!

oh my god. they are beautiful. Be warned, this is how it all started with my friend, who then decided she wanted to breed a certain colouring, and at one point ended up with 49 of them

iloveeverykindofcat · 18/02/2024 16:28

Ah well done OP and mummy pig. We had lots of guinea pigs when I was a child, before people were really aware of any potential issues with letting them breed. Basically the initial pair were called Lady and Flossie, but it turned out Lady was in fact a "Laddy". Laddy grew enormous and was sleek all over with a single crown on his head. He was perfectly tame, very intelligent, lived for 10 years with and fathered a small nation. Half the guinea pigs in my home city are probably descended from him. Obviously I wouldn't condone this sort of reckless guinea pig reproduction nowadays but as I recall they mostly got on with minimal problems. Amazing how developed the babies are isn't it? I know human babies come out pretty undeveloped, but even compared to other mammals. Just like little adults.

Willmafrockfit · 18/02/2024 16:31

how lovely

EdithStourton · 18/02/2024 16:35

Oh, they're gorgeous! I never knew before this thread that they come out fully finished like calves and foals, and not looking as if they need another month in the womb like puppies and kittens.

JDJT · 18/02/2024 16:35

Ooh before the pics are up I'm gonna guess you've got 2 boys and a girl! White crest, the lightest, being the girl.

Edited

I was gonna guess the same!

Hopefully it’s like that because then the daughter can stay with mum and the brothers can live together

enchantedsquirrelwood · 18/02/2024 16:39

OP they are so gorgeous. It's just amazing how they are born ready to go!

I didn't know they were called pups. I also have to ask why they are not guinea piglets (or cavettes as their real name is cavies).

Multipleexclamationmarks · 18/02/2024 16:39

Aw congratulations! Beautiful piggies. 😍

Awwww! Hello babies! I have been having the most miserable stressful day, but I've just found this thread and it has cheered me right up!
