Shit... 99% sure Guinea Pig is pregnant

Bit of a disaster... I lost one of my two lovely girls at the start of December. We were devastated, they were like two peas in a pod. I had a post on here at the time.

After just over a week I figured I needed to get another Guinea pig to keep my remaining one happy. Bought from a pet store as we don't have any rescues.... and I'm 99% sure the baby is pregnant 😡

Can't get her in to see the Vet until Tuesday morning.

She's had no vet care during pregnancy, haven't been feeding her any supplements. She was 8 weeks when she came to us, so young to be having babies. We've had her 55 days.

What the hell do I do now?

So gorgeous! Hard to know they're only newborn from those pictures.

SaltBlossom · 18/02/2024 09:36

Hooray! Congratulations xxx

lunar1 · 18/02/2024 09:36

This is the best thing to happen all week 🥰

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 18/02/2024 09:37

Congratulations! Its fate really, had the little mummy pig not ended up with you, who clearly knows her piggies and cares deeply, she could have ended up in a very different home. So something positive from the loss of your lovely old pig.

QueSyrahSyrah · 18/02/2024 09:38

Aaaaah Congratulations OP and Mama Pig! I just announced to DH that 'the baby Guinea Pigs are here' and he paused what he's watching to come see the pictures 😄

Clearinguptheclutter · 18/02/2024 09:39

Oh congratulations to you and mummy pigs. I didn’t realise they’d be born all fluffy and cute.

Somethinggenericandforgettable · 18/02/2024 09:40

PleaseBePacific · 18/02/2024 09:41

Wee man with the white tuft on his head should be christened Tufts.

ShakespearesMonkeys · 18/02/2024 09:42

Gorgeousness!!

No wonder Mummy Pig was so rotund, I bet she’s glad they’re out.

CherryMaple · 18/02/2024 09:42

They are so beautiful OP 🥰

smaaktlekker · 18/02/2024 09:43

Congratulations! Been watching the thread, memories of my lovely piggies. I meant to post last night to say I thought there were three after seeing the very pregnant pic. My prediction looks a bit shit now but I thought I could see clear outlines. Well done piggy mum and auntie!

Wow I didn't know they could live as long as dogs! I thought they lived about 6-8 years.

In what way are they as much work as dogs? I must be totally out of date as we had them when I was a teenager. We used to put them in the run in the garden or give them the run of the living room (all cables protected) and sometimes we would make them obstacle courses out of a big box. But we didn't need to train them or take them out on wet days. Their poos are much less offensive than dog poos too Grin We did get a neighbour to come in and feed them when we went on holiday.

I do think the cages we had were much too small by modern standards, though.

Edited

I think modern knowledge on good care has changed. People tended to regard rabbits and GP as semi disposable children's pets I think. But it's like people used to have a dog that was fed table scraps and chucked out the door in the morning to roam the town. Views on appropriate appropriate care change!

The guinea pigs I inherited from my sibling lived for 12- 14 years.
He'd moved out and had a family and I still had the damn things 🤣

ChanginRooms · 18/02/2024 09:48

I didn't expect them to be so... Adult looking. Just smaller!!

I'm used to rats who come out looking like pink Jellybeans!

InAPickle12345 · 18/02/2024 09:52

@smaaktlekker great prediction! 👏 You were spot on!

Mum and Auntie are now happily snoozing in bed together... they have never slept together! I can't believe how attentive my older girl is 😭
