I think my cat stole someone's Sunday lunch

Just that really

My cat has just turned up on my patio with a small roasted chicken in his greedy mouth.

He has form for sneaking into neighbours houses through doors and we windows.

I can't really go knocking on doors to ask if anyone is moving missing their dinner

Mortified doesn't cover it

My cat used to steal washing that our neighbours had hung out on their washing lines. I used to get pants, socks, all sorts! Never the same neighbour though so I didn't know where to return it to!

ADHDGURL · 14/01/2024 17:30

That's a clever cat! I'm super impressed, mine can't find dreamies treats when I put them at his feet!!
As for the hapless humans it was stolen from..😂

FruitBowlCrazy · 14/01/2024 17:30

I have discovered that one of our cats is partial to salmon and broccoli quiche.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 14/01/2024 17:31

Your cat is a good provider and you should be grateful and proud Smile

What? A human finger? Did you think about telling the police or summat Hmm
And that wasn't the reason for it to be put down was it?!

Is anybody else (who like me is late to this thread) desperate to know what the deleted comment read??

fetchacloth · 14/01/2024 17:32

That's so funny😂
I used to have a cat that stole washing off the line, usually small items. Sometimes she would pinch items from other peoples' washing lines too. The embarrassment.🙄

Toddlerteaplease · 14/01/2024 17:33

That is the funniest thing I've read all day!! Can we have a photo of the thief?!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 14/01/2024 17:33

Disappointingly our current cats don't bring us anything useful at all, but Mrs Grumpy reminded me that a previous cat of ours nipped into our upstairs neighbour's flat and stole a chicken leg that our neighbour had been thawing before cooking it for her tea. This was the same cat that was regularly spotted on a different neighbours inside window sill. (A real Six Dinner Sid)
Another previous cat of ours tried to bring in a live moorhen.

One of ours brought home a five pound note once, no idea where he found it.

Impressive!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/01/2024 17:34

One of our cats - a fierce and brave hunter - brought home half a sponge cake once, and another time, a cooked pork chop.

LaurieStrode · 14/01/2024 17:35

Thanks, this made my day!

My parents were cat-sitting once and it jumped up on the counter and stole a pork loin.

I used to have the same problem. I really couldn't face the embarrassment of reuniting neighbours with their underwear😦

henrysugar12 · 14/01/2024 17:35

My cat came home with a half side of salmon from M&S! Still in the wrapper so my mum cooked it and we had it for tea!

KentishMama · 14/01/2024 17:35

I had a duck all prepped to put in the oven. On the kitchen counter, covered in foil. Went to open the door. Found my geriatric, very unwell cat sitting on the duck licking it lovingly when I returned to the kitchen....

Couldn't be mad at the cat, this was in the last few weeks of her life and we all knew it. I bought another duck and she had a very nice roast duck dinner that evening.

My dad was a subpostmaster. We had a stray who moved in with us called Panda and she decided to go to work with Dad everyday. She loved it there because people brought her treats but she was an unbelievably good thief. Customers often came to the post office after the supermarket and if they didn't take heed of the warning signs about Panda, their ham would be gone. She was crazy for ham, could smell it a mile off and could remove it deftly from the depths of a bag before anyone noticed. Dad often had to give customers money for their ham. Most of then wised up after a while and kept a hand on their bags.

In another incident, some workmen were sitting in a van outside the post office with the window open. They were relaxing and enjoying their ham sandwiches until Panda jumped in through the window, stole the sandwich out of one of the men's hands and legged it. Dad went out and offered then some money for the stolen sandwich.

Bobby liked to go fishing and stole coy carp from a neighbour three or four times until the neighbour put a net on the pond.
He also brought in frozen salmon fillets from somewhere and pieces of raw chicken.

My sister was woken one night with a load banging coming from downstairs. She tentatively went down to investigate and found her cat trying to come through the cat flap with a huge dead (wild) rabbit. It was so big, puss ended up reversing and trying to come in with it backwards.

(Wild?! It would have been furious! 🤣)

murasaki · 14/01/2024 17:39

My ex's two cats once dragged a muddy, leaf covered warm leg of lamb through his cat flap. The poor people who must have ben resting it on the side..he too was mortified but didn't know quite where it had come from. They must have tag teamed it over and under fences.

Was the Rabbit called Gerald? 🤣

Our first cat, Toby, jumped up on to the table and stole a chicken leg off DD's plate when he was a kitten.

He ran upstairs with it, hell for leather, in case we tried to get it back.

Here he is, older and still unrepentant.

I think my cat stole someone's Sunday lunch
Baneofmyexistence · 14/01/2024 17:41

My cat is terrible for things like this. He came back a couple of weeks ago with a chicken wing off someone’s dinner but your cat has beaten him with the whole thing 😂

ManchesterLu · 14/01/2024 17:42

Cats are ridiculous. There was one year ours kept bringing us BBQd goods. She wasn't even eating it, she was just bringing it and leaving it in the kitchen for us. I don't know where she was going, as none of our immediate neighbours were BBQing.

HermioneKipper · 14/01/2024 17:43

Our cat used to regularly bring home baguettes - even dragging them backwards through the cat flap! He left them proudly on the mat meowing loudly to announce his arrival home with his booty!

We had absolutely no idea where he got them from as asked our neighbours - we lived in a small close where we knew everyone and no other houses for about a mile!

TheShellBeach · 14/01/2024 17:43

In fact, DH once cooked a leg of lamb, then decided to take it upstairs to the bedroom to eat it.

I have never worked out why he did this. I was away working at the time.

Anyway - he placed the leg of lamb on the floor beside the bed, then went to get a can of beer.

When he got back, he discovered Toby eating his way through the leg of lamb.

We were having family over for Boxing day several years ago and had bought a nice joint of beef. Except someone didn't shut the fridge door properly and I came downstairs on Christmas morning to find four cats tucking into a partially defrosted joint of beef! Obviously, the shops were shut as it was Christmas day and I had nothing to feed the family with the next day - fortunately, the in laws, who always have a well stocked freezer came to the rescue

These days, we have two cats. I have never worked out which of them was responsible for the dead squirrel I found in my house one morning. We don't have cat flap, so they must have sneaked past me unnoticed with it in it's mouth

Americano75 · 14/01/2024 17:44

Keep an eye on your local Facebook group, if it's anything like mine you'll have a still of your cat from their camera with a disingenuous 'does anyone know whose wee cat this is?' caption. 😆
