I think my cat stole someone's Sunday lunch

Just that really

My cat has just turned up on my patio with a small roasted chicken in his greedy mouth.

He has form for sneaking into neighbours houses through doors and we windows.

I can't really go knocking on doors to ask if anyone is moving missing their dinner

Mortified doesn't cover it

I smiled when I read the title! Cats are amazing!

You have to share a picture!

TheShellBeach · 14/01/2024 17:45

We also had one who was hopeless at catching his own birds and mice.
Buster was always really proud of himself for bringing in long-dead prey.

One of ours brought home a five pound note once, no idea where he found it.

Mine did too!! As a kitten! It was the first thing that she caught and I was so proud of her!

My dog is a very naughty cockapoo , had a couple of embarrassing episodes . I’d not long had him as an 8 month old rescue and we have a huge beach near us. Thought I’d let him off lead for a run about and he made a bee line for an elderly gentleman who had just sat down with his nicely wrapped up sandwiches. He had just opened them and my dog ran straight up, took his sandwich from his lap and out of grabbing distance bolted the whole lot in seconds . The poor old geezer didn’t stand a chance, I was mortified . The second time he misbehaved was when my husband took him to the same beach. A man was swimming and had left his clothes on the beach. I wasn’t there but DH said he ran over to the clothes grabbed his socks and ran up the beach with them ignoring my husbands shouts . He eventually managed to prise them back from the dogs jaws a fair way from where he had stolen them and was hoping to get them back on the clothes pile before the guy in the sea noticed , horror of horrors , he saw the guy get out of the sea and was making his way back . My husband had to hand him the chewed socks!

Your thread made me laugh, OP. My cat once brought back a bag with sandwich, crisps and banana enclosed - he'd obviously nabbed someone's lunch. I'll give it to him, he had to jump over our 6ft with it!

RandomMess · 14/01/2024 17:49

@Littlewhitecat my cat too brought back a rat in trap but couldn't get it over the very tall fence. All I kept thinking was there is a neighbour wondering their traps have disappeared too from their gardens!'

What a beautiful picture of Buster!

I only get dead mice, rats, or squirrels

SamW98 · 14/01/2024 17:53

Years ago my cat come through the cat flap on Christmas Day with a whole roast potato steam coming out as it was straight from the oven hot.

In the next 30 minutes he reappeared with

  • a thick slice of roast turkey
  • a Yorkshire pudding
  • a stuffing ball

No idea if it was all from same kitchen or whether he was going from house to house building a Christmas dinner 🤣

MangoPepsiLover · 14/01/2024 17:54

My childhood cat showed up with a goldfish very obviously out of someones pond once. Pleased as punch with herself of course.

LauderSyme · 14/01/2024 17:55

These are so funny 😆😆

I feel like if humans were this determined to achieve a UPF free diet, we'd be well impressed with their resourcefulness!

FrenchFancie · 14/01/2024 17:56

I was on the opposite end of this once - left the plate of leftover Christmas Turkey on the side in the kitchen with the window open. Came back ten minutes later to find no Turkey on plate but could see white bits on the path. Went to investigate to find a few little bits of leftover Turkey on the path and the local feral cat sat at the end of the garden in a total food coma.

i changed the fly screens on the windows after that to try to keep him out! (This obviously did not occur in the UK!)

When I was a Nanny many moons ago the children's cat left headless guinea pigs on the patio for me over a period of weeks..
Never did find out where they came from!

😧 Poor piggies! 🥺 I kinda hope they were from a backyard breeder and not someone's beloved pets! Still sad for the piggies though.

This is Jose, the hairiest, hungriest, most slobbery labrador you could ever meet. We sadly lost him 2 years ago.

Once we were walking past a group of people sat in a circle on the beach doing some sort of group meditation/chanting. One man had left his lunch in a bag behind him and as we walked past Jose managed to swallow his sandwiches, including the clingfilm, without even breaking stride.

He also ate socks, underwear, dirty nappies, playdoh and cat poo. His most legendary story was when he dug up and ate our dead cat, threw her up, then ate her again. He was a twat but I miss him.

Many years ago my dog gatecrashed a small child's birthday in the park and mugged a ham sandwich off one of the children. She inhaled it without chewing! the mum was going bananas.😳

A few years later she stole a large roasted beef joint, that had been left on the table after dinner. the only evidence was a smear on the table cloth, three days of explosive diarrhoea and a vets bill.

WinterLobelia · 14/01/2024 18:00

One of our cats came home with a sausage.

Another cat... my neighbour called me in for coffee and said the cat was stealing fish from their pond. I said that could not possibly be true. About 3 minutes later my cat walked through her house and jumped onto my lap. With a wet paw to elbow.

PinkShoelacesAndAPolkaDotVest · 14/01/2024 18:00

I walked into the kitchen once to find the chicken I was about to cook no longer covered by the net tent thingy and Matthew the Cat, looking very cross, sitting underneath said net tent thingy right next to it.

Wish I’d taken a picture but was laughing too much.

justasking111 · 14/01/2024 18:01

My MIL had the girls coming for lunch made four beautiful ham salads, plated up and put on the trolley. All the ham disappeared, nothing else touched. We didn't realise at the time because it was a quick visit. Apparently she was completely baffled, searching the fridge for the ham she had mislaid.

One Christmas, we cooked a ham on Christmas Eve left on the side to cool. Husband wandered into the kitchen to find the cat and dog chowing down. Only the cat could have reached it.

AnneElliott · 14/01/2024 18:01

I love this thread! So many naughty cats!!

Achillo · 14/01/2024 18:01

Mine first brought two sausages which she left in a row outside my 2 dds' bedroom.
She didn't know we are veggie. But since then has also brought a margarita pizza slice, sweetcorn and packet of sweets so maybe she's worked it out!

sedilla · 14/01/2024 18:02

These are great! When I was turning 4, my mother iced a birthday cake for me to take to nursery and put it in the cupboard. Somehow my beloved cat got into the cupboard and licked all the icing off…! She also used to leave me “presents” of headless mice in my bedroom every night.

Funnily enough, when I turned 7, my cake was a model of the cat.

PianPianPiano · 14/01/2024 18:06

My cat brings home dog chews - the massive bone type ones... I'm always picturing the poor confused dog trying to figure out where it's gone!

Talkinpeace · 14/01/2024 18:06

Old cat came home with a BBQ burger
and burned paws
we heard the neighbours shouting
said nothing

Ketzele · 14/01/2024 18:07

My sweet, elderly neighbour befriended a robin that would visit him everyday to eat out of his hand.

My cat brought it through the catflap. Horrific. I never told neighbour.

StuckintheUSA · 14/01/2024 18:07

Our cat once brought back a slice of pizza. It was quite large, so I've no idea how she got it over the fence.
