I think my cat stole someone's Sunday lunch

Just that really

My cat has just turned up on my patio with a small roasted chicken in his greedy mouth.

He has form for sneaking into neighbours houses through doors and we windows.

I can't really go knocking on doors to ask if anyone is moving missing their dinner

Mortified doesn't cover it

At least the chicken was well dead at that point. A German Shepherd belonging to one of the local farms was seen walking back home from the village with someone's pet chicken in his mouth.

One of ours brought home a five pound note once, no idea where he found it.

Can we swap cats?

Speaking of cash;if I find out who lost their chicken I'd probably stick a fiver through their door with an apology note attached.

One of mine caught a gerbil and it died under the sofa bed in the spare room, only found when there were flies in there 🤮, the same cat came home with a cooked sausage.

Another cat plunged from the top of a cupboard with a gammon joint, my mother was alerted by the sound of the plate smashing and found him tucking into it with the dog enjoying his share as well.

My Rottweiler stole my friend's pet lamb.

The lamb was fine though;he'd taken it back to the kennel he was staying in (we were on holiday) and was cuddling it.

How he managed to get it into the kennel I don't know.

Yeah, our cat has come happily running into the garden with a chicken drumstick before, presumably pilfered from a neighbouring garden bbq.

roundtable · 14/01/2024 16:50

Your cat has obviously been reading the diary of a killer cat by Anne fine 😁

Silverbirchtwo · 14/01/2024 16:51

One of my cats brought in a rabbit through the cat flap I don't know how she managed to get it through, she dropped it on the cat food dish, and the very much alive (wild) rabbit jumped up splattering cat food everywhere and ran under the fridge. My DD about 5 at the time is shouting at me, 'Mummy there's a rabbit under the fridge.' I'm totally baffled for a few seconds trying to make sense of the scene, then the rabbit makes a bid for freedom emerges from under the fridge and starts hopping madly around the kitchen. In the meantime cat has quietly wandered off somewhere leaving behind this trail of chaos, cat food up the walls and across the floor, child laughing and screaming and rabbit in full flight running in circles.

I did eventually catch the rabbit and let it go in the garden, cats don't you love them.

You do realise that your cat has possibly done a poor (MN) woman out of her entire week's dinners for a family of 5?

And stopped her from boiling the bones for stock? 😳

I had the exact same thing in my head! Grin

We have a friend who had 2 cats who worked as a team. Over a period of a few weeks they brought in a pork chop, a child's purse with money in it and...... a tow rope! It was dragged in through the catflap, across the kitchen floor, through the hall and part way up the stairs.

Our cats are far more traditional - we just get mice; sometimes expired and sometimes alive!

AddictedToBooks · 14/01/2024 16:53

When I was a kid, our cat, Smoke dragged a huge raw defrosting chicken that was actually bigger than her, into our kitchen.
She'd stolen it out of our next door neighbour's kitchen window. Luckily our neighbour was lovely about it and Mum went out and bought her a replacement straight away.
Smoke's long gone now, but her story lives on

My ex H was a police dog handler. This particular dog was very well- behaved and could be relied upon to walk nicely on the end of his lead with very little attention. Until the day they were patrolling a street market and XH looked down to see the dog with a packet of Walls pork sausages in his mouth. He’d obviously snaffled them out of someone’s shopping basket.

floppybit · 14/01/2024 16:56

Last summer mum mum's cat came home with a huge freshly cooked steak in his mouth! Warm weather so people had their doors open. Someone must've left the steak on the side to rest while they sorted out the rest of their meal and the little swine has gone in and pinched it

wendywoopywoo222 · 14/01/2024 16:58

Was camping and had some pork chops on the barbecue.
A seagull ran over, grabbed one off the grill and ran off.

AmytheDancingBrick · 14/01/2024 16:58

We had a leg of lamb dragged through the door once. The dogs really enjoyed it and so did the cat!

StaunchMomma · 14/01/2024 16:58

That reminds me of an episode of one of those police shows - the dog was off the lead hunting for a driver or something, and it took off after a rabbit instead Grin

Love this. Bet they couldn't believe their luck.

My DH is also an ex dog handler.

The dogs were also great until food was involved.

The local 24 hour McDonalds would sneak burger patties into the bag when my DH went through on a night shift.

My lamb loving Rottweiler is a retired working dog.

What? A human finger? Did you think about telling the police or summat Hmm
And that wasn't the reason for it to be put down was it?!

Georgyporky · 14/01/2024 17:08

I'd like to know where I can buy a chicken that still has a bag of giblets inside it.

Or maybe I could borrow PP's cat.

EdithGrantham · 14/01/2024 17:08

Our cat has turned up with a slice of pizza more than once, we think he eventually caught on that we would take it off him because when I was on my way back from work one day I spotted him at the bottom of our road hunched over munching on a slice of pizza.

We can only hope she managed to pluck it first, so she at least had something to stuff her pillows with, otherwise it would have been a truly awful waste!

HagoftheNorth · 14/01/2024 17:10

My cat was an extremely effective hunter, so it was sadly a common experience to find a lot of feathers and a dead bird in the hall when I got back from work. One day though, it was lots of feathers, no body and another cat’s toy mouse. I would love to know what happened!
