Boots refusing to sell canesten to men! Wtf!

Stressedgiraffe · 01/06/2023 16:25

Dh went to boots to buy canesten today and the sales person refused to sell it to him as he was a man! Apparently the pharmacist stepped in and he bought it.
Wtf? Surely men can get thrush or could have been buying it for someone else. It's bonkers
Apparently she said it was a boots policy!

Team Dave

Definitely not Team Pharmacist.
Bunch of self-important pricks.

KnackeredAF · 01/06/2023 19:06

Christ alive, I’m just explaining the rationale for the Boots policy. 🤦🏽‍♀️

I wasn’t there so I can’t comment on how the conversation went - I’d assume the OP’s partner claimed it was for him over “Dave the millipede”, hence the issue arising. PP’s have explained there is an issue selling human meds for animals also, so had partner said “no it’s for my wife/sister/insert other option here” then I doubt there would have been the same issue.
Once you’ve said “it’s for me”, you can’t take it back, no matter how hard you try to backtrack.

Thanks Berlioz!

AnneElliott · 01/06/2023 19:08

The point is @Hannahsbananas that today people/ shops/institutions are quite worried about misgendering people. My comment was a sarcastic one referring to this common issue.

GoodChat · 01/06/2023 19:08

Berlioz23 · 01/06/2023 19:04

@GoodChat well in that case the gp should prescribe it to take the responsibility, the pharmacist can’t access the patients notes so can’t safely sell it. If it is cheaper than on prescription the pharmacy staff will tell you and then you can buy it cheaper as long as they’ve seen a prefor it.

They can sell it if you tell them the right things, though

Ah, ok. Sorry.

#SaveDave.

AnneElliott · 01/06/2023 19:14

It's difficult to read tone online @Hannahsbananas. One of the drawbacks of social media I guess.

Dave is a handsome one op - hope he gets better soon.

BEST. THREAD. EVER.

Berlioz23 · 01/06/2023 19:16

@TheShellBeach blimey… what has a pharmacist done to you?

Berlioz23 · 01/06/2023 19:19

@GoodChat not if it’s against the product license to sell, sure you can lie but god forbid anything happens you really are putting the pharmacists career in jeopardy.

Shockhorror22 · 01/06/2023 19:20

What has happened to the OP? She’s gone very quiet . . . ?

Whatthechicken · 01/06/2023 19:22

Stressedgiraffe · 01/06/2023 16:40

The stupid thing is we needed it for the millipedes. It's cheaper than getting it from the vet.

I was tried to buy Anusol, it was for my chicken that had a prolapsed vent, I stupidly mentioned this and was told I couldn’t have it. Lesson learnt.

She’s trying to find the gammy leg. Only a few hundred to go.

She is probably busy applying cream to a thousand little legs!

How long have you got?

Shockhorror22 · 01/06/2023 19:25

I hope you’re right Manuel. Dave has a bit of a psycho vibe, imo.

CandidaAlbicans2 · 01/06/2023 19:26

My username seems rather apt considering the topic 😁Anyway, I gasped at the sight of the magnificent Dave. What a beast! 😃😎Please do a "I'm Dave the millipede, AMA" @Stressedgiraffe

I've never had thrush, or a millipede, but I have had to use canestan on a hen.
@BigglyBee that's intriguing, tell me more! 🤔😊

Shame.

ShimmeringShirts · 01/06/2023 19:30

Thanks for the laugh, I really needed that! This is the best thing I’ve read on here in a long long time.

iklboo · 01/06/2023 19:30

I'm just amused OP's DH went to Boots for a millipede's gammy leg medication.

Seriously, has a pharmacist ever been investigated for selling canastan to a millipede?

BungleandGeorge · 01/06/2023 19:33

How dare they not sell something that’s potentially harmful. I’m sure your husband would have been really pleased if something awful happened to his tackle 😆
the whole point of being behind the counter is that items should only be sold in accordance with their product licence. And human medicines shouldn’t be sold for animals if there’s one specifically designed for pets.
you can buy clotrimazole off the shelf btw if you’re not bothered about the licensing. Unless you were buying the double strength one

Dave’s a male millipede though, what if he has diabetes and the pharmacist didn’t pick up on it? 🤣

Allblackeverythingalways · 01/06/2023 19:37

I order most of my pharmacy stuff online now, tickboxes are much better than jobsworths.
They tend to have little info clickers too. So you KNOW why it might not be suitable rather than a vague "no"
