Boots refusing to sell canesten to men! Wtf!

Stressedgiraffe · 01/06/2023 16:25

Dh went to boots to buy canesten today and the sales person refused to sell it to him as he was a man! Apparently the pharmacist stepped in and he bought it.
Wtf? Surely men can get thrush or could have been buying it for someone else. It's bonkers
Apparently she said it was a boots policy!

a razor is a razor! Who cares if it's for a man or a woman?

The heads are different shapes. I cut myself a lot more often with a men's razor because the head is designed for convex facial surfaces instead of concave armpits.

AnObserverInThisDarkWorld · 02/06/2023 01:25

This thread is a joy.

Such beautiful millipedes

Also learnt I need Canasten for boob rash in summer!

And more woe for us women being the ones who regularly get thrush 🤣

Stressedgiraffe · 01/06/2023 16:40

The stupid thing is we needed it for the millipedes. It's cheaper than getting it from the vet.

This is the best drip feed I've ever read on mumsnet 😂

Now, I feel sure this should be on the MIL thread, but somehow the random tangent seems quite at home on this thread.

I had images of Dave et al going upstairs to the loo. 😆

Mogs43 · 02/06/2023 01:56

Op - I can’t stop thinking about Dave . How did you know he had an infection and how do you treat it? Where did you get him from and does he make a good pet?

Whatthechicken · 02/06/2023 02:03

My daughter sometimes gets athlete’s foot (she’s human, not a millipede), but she misheard us say what it was. She once proudly announced to her GPs that she has ‘Nathalie’s toes’.

SapphireSeptember · 02/06/2023 02:04

Dave is quite cute. Princess on the other hand, looks rather scary! 🙀

hope millipede is ok! Next time say he is buying for his wife , no questions will be asked😂
Men who have new rash in genital area are likely to have an STD that is not thrush/jock itch . Thrush in young men quite unusual and could indicate other health issue. Considered by NHS as worth a gp visit.
Recurrent thrush in women very common, not worth a gp visit unless persistent infection.

Not sure it will make much difference saying the cream is for Dave's wife 😉

I can share a pic of the centipede now that I find scary

Centipedes are one of the few things that freak me out, and I've kept old world tarantulas in the past.
Anyone who says they're not scared of centipedes (especially the massive Scolopendras) is either a liar or just plain nuts. I remember reading a post on a tarantula group from someone who kept a few centipedes saying that if one ever escaped he'd just leave the house and set fire to it, it would be easier. I think he was joking but a lot of people agreed with him. 😂

charabang · 02/06/2023 06:39

Dave should be taught to dry thoroughly between his toes to avoid fungal issues in the future. And to change his socks more frequently. Natural fibres only of course.

Lottle · 02/06/2023 06:50

@TheShellBeach thank you! I don't think I'd ever have worked that out myself!

Sounds like a simple error on the assistants part. As long as the pharmacist explained to the staff member then no harm done. Every days a school day 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think we should rename the drip feed, and shout Millipede! instead.

Back from dinner. I'll get dd to photo all of them. They are Dave, Carrot, chenobyl and schmeagol.
This is princess the centipede.
Happy to do a Ama

They live for about 10 years in captivity.
They eat mainly cucumber and lettuce and mealworm
Princess eats prawns

Came back this morning for updates.
Was NOT disappointed!!!!

Who knew centipedes ate prawns! And looked like that! Do they bite?

lemons44 · 02/06/2023 08:28

Thank you @Stressedgiraffe for coming back with an update!

I would love to know if you post in AMA as I have lots of questions. It's all very interesting.

Such a beautiful family of leggy saveloys.

PuppyMonkey · 02/06/2023 08:42

Princess eats prawns - what a diva. Grin

Ywudu · 02/06/2023 08:43

Loving this post. Who'd have thought millipedes would make my day

Cnidarian · 02/06/2023 09:06

Well this is my favourite ever thread. Centipedes though, ooof they are one of the few things in the natural world that truly scare me. Princess 😆

Yeah, this. I saw a giant centipede on Borneo. Everyone was treating it very warily, more so than spiders, scorpions, snakes, which we had also seen.

Riverlee · 02/06/2023 09:43

Pharmacy items are legally classified in different ways-
GSL - general selling list - so everyday items, small packs of paracetamol, antihistamines etc, These can be sold anywhere.

P - Pharmacy only - larger packs of items, stronger medicines, needs a pharmacist’s input before selling. Sone items are GSL for certain illnesses, but P for others.

POM - prescription only medicines - needs a prescription before dispensing.

Good pharmacy assistants have been through training that makes them aware of this and aware what can be sold to whom. Therefore, by refusing the sale, she’s was actually being responsible, as she may may not had the authority to sell it, whilst the pharmacist can.

allabouttheboy · 02/06/2023 09:45

I buy this for Guinea pigs. Also advised by the vet as it is cheaper than exact same marketed for small animals

ArabeIIaScott · 02/06/2023 10:44

Rat lovers, skip the last part. :(

scottishthistle77 · 02/06/2023 10:52

PandaChopChop Yes centipedes bite and, depending on the subspecies, it can vary from mildly venomous like a bee sting to so painful that people can end up in hospital due to it. They are definitely a look don't touch kind of pet.
