Boots refusing to sell canesten to men! Wtf!

Stressedgiraffe · 01/06/2023 16:25

Dh went to boots to buy canesten today and the sales person refused to sell it to him as he was a man! Apparently the pharmacist stepped in and he bought it.
Wtf? Surely men can get thrush or could have been buying it for someone else. It's bonkers
Apparently she said it was a boots policy!

This is my favourite ever mn plot twist

😂

Nothinglefttogiv · 01/06/2023 23:07

If you use canisten on Dave's leg(s) and canisten should not be consumed (I assume that's the same for millipedes as well as humans)

I presume Dave and his friends walk all over their food that is left in their cage/tank/vivarium unless they are very spoiled hand-fed millipedes...

you must have to cover Dave's poor legs to avoid him walking canisten all over their food!

I looked after the reception hissing cockroaches and giant African snails one year so I'm assuming a similar feeding set up.

Howdidtheydothat · 01/06/2023 23:11

hope millipede is ok! Next time say he is buying for his wife , no questions will be asked😂
Men who have new rash in genital area are likely to have an STD that is not thrush/jock itch . Thrush in young men quite unusual and could indicate other health issue. Considered by NHS as worth a gp visit.
Recurrent thrush in women very common, not worth a gp visit unless persistent infection.

Robyn847 · 01/06/2023 23:11

Well I know a lot of random shit, but I did NOT* *know that people kept millipedes as pets.

Marleeeene · 01/06/2023 23:12

Booties for a millipede with thrush. 😂

Howdidtheydothat · 01/06/2023 23:17

And men would rather self diagnose than go to gp. For example recurrent chicken pox (shingles ) can cause itchy rash in genital region. Many men (and women ) would not want to go to gp. Sometimes through embrassment, but let’s face it, a face to face gp appointment is like hens teeth and if your pants are on fire, who wants to a 7 day wait or to send a picture of their manhood to an online gp appointment 😂😂😂😂

When you said "millipedes" I was thinking of the tiny little things I find in my garden and trying to figure out why anyone would keep those.

The photo of Dave took me aback somewhat. I didn't know millipedes could get so big.

This!!!

TwoWaits · 01/06/2023 23:29

Lol what? Guys can get thrush on their dicks too. Very strange

Clytemnestra21 · 01/06/2023 23:37

I've had a couple of instances like this. Once in a Tesco Metro I was buying about a dozen things including replacement heads for a men's razor. Guy at the counter kept saying 'this is a men's razor!' With his eyes wide open as if amazed that I should be spending money on something marketed for a man. Massive assumption on his part that I would only be shopping for myself and not a partner but also a razor is a razor! Who cares if it's for a man or a woman? Also had supermarket staff challenge me buying wine as part of a massive family shop whilst pregnant. As well as the fact it's none of their business, ought to be pretty obvious I'm not just shopping for me.

WingingItSince1973 · 01/06/2023 23:49

I was convinced millipede was a typo until I saw the pic! How do you nominate a thread for Classics?

Report the first post by the OP and say you want to nominate it for Classics.

TheShellBeach · 02/06/2023 00:05

If MNHQ get enough requests for a thread to be in Classics they will consider it.

OP is probably very busy applying canesten cream to dave

It takes a very lonnnng time!

TheBlessedCheesemaker · 02/06/2023 00:35

To be fair, pharmacist should have checked that Dave was under 60.

How old do millipedes live to? In captivity, anyway. I imagine they get usually predated in the wild.

Whatthechicken · 01/06/2023 20:14

When I take my chickens to the vets, we often get given antibiotics meant for dogs, because despite chickens being a massive part of our food chain, there is no profit in keeping chickens well, so drugs just haven’t been manufactured for them.

re the vet prescribing dog meds for your poultry: this is allowed under a policy called the "cascade" https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-cascade-prescribing-unauthorised-medicines

re human pharmacies not dispensing animal meds: the pharmacy would have to be registered as a veterinary practice premises to legally sell meds for animal use https://www.gov.uk/guidance/retail-of-veterinary-medicines#pharmacists

The cascade: prescribing unauthorised medicines

Guidance for prescribing vets on the use of the cascade.

Back from dinner. I'll get dd to photo all of them. They are Dave, Carrot, chenobyl and schmeagol.
This is princess the centipede.
Happy to do a Ama

They live for about 10 years in captivity.
They eat mainly cucumber and lettuce and mealworm
Princess eats prawns

Poor Dave. Hope his fungal leg gets better soon.

I try to use vague but not strictly incorrect language with the chemist. Another good pet medicine is chloramphenicol eye drops, which are exactly the same for cats as for humans.

Last time my cat had an eye infection the vet said I'd save a fortune getting it from a human chemist.

"Can I get some chloramphenicol eye drops please, they're for Alice, my wee one. She's 12. Her clinician advised me to get her some"....

My vet tells me to get it OTC as it’s cheaper!
