Boots refusing to sell canesten to men! Wtf!

Stressedgiraffe · 01/06/2023 16:25

Dh went to boots to buy canesten today and the sales person refused to sell it to him as he was a man! Apparently the pharmacist stepped in and he bought it.
Wtf? Surely men can get thrush or could have been buying it for someone else. It's bonkers
Apparently she said it was a boots policy!

Your vet has the specialist knowledge to choose something safe though. And Dave’s gammy leg treatment was recommended by the vet. That is totally different to the owner doing a self diagnosis and treatment

I know and you are right. And I understand that it’s not worth pharmacists risking their license and livelihood. I just wanted to point out the trouble with chickens, I find it upsetting that it’s all about profit.

There’s a lot of much loved pet chickens now too!

Well I think we can all agree that none of us was expecting that plot twist.

Right?! 😂

Crystaltipsvariation · 01/06/2023 20:31

It was a mistake and a silly one. All medicines by law are supplied with a leaflet approved by the Regulatory Authorities. The leaflet explains what the medicine is for and who can use it. For Canesten cream it is clearly indicated for treatment of thrush in both men and women as it references application to the penis. Keep the leaflet and take it with you next time you go to buy some.

Katyrosebug · 01/06/2023 20:34

I've had a really shit day at work today and this has really cheered me up 😂

SaxSick · 01/06/2023 20:39

Are the millipedes female?

Mine are all ex batts, and they are very much loved. Their bodies are so damaged though from overbreeding to produce as many eggs as possible, they may only live another year or so when I get them. I do what I can for them and give them as much freedom as I can. Some have never seen natural light before and it’s lovely to see them discover their first dust bath.

BungleandGeorge · 01/06/2023 20:46

That’s so lovely that they get a decent retirement, I expect the alternative is that they’re ‘dispatched’ ☹️

saltinesandcoffeecups · 01/06/2023 20:51

You do know that this thread will be picked up and distributed. Then there will be an official memo to all pharmacists warning them to be cautious of this sort of thing.

soon we’ll be seeing threads starting with “Why on earth is my pharmacist asking if I have a millipede?!?” 🤣

Get well, Dave!

Thats interesting that you aren’t allowed to get medicine for your animals at the people pharmacy. I used to get my cat’s allergy medicine from the pharmacy (it was just OTC children’s benedryl, but he hated the bubble gum flavor). Life was easier for both of us when I asked the pharmacist about flavor options that he could use. There it was Cherry, Orange, Tuna, Banana, Beef etc.

The stupid thing is we needed it for the millipedes. It's cheaper than getting it from the vet.

😆😂🤣 this reminds me of when I tried to buy conjunctivitis eye drops for the dog.

Got to the picture yet? 🤣

Tiddlypomtiddlypom · 01/06/2023 20:58

This thread has been an absolute find. Never have I been so surprised by a twist, and never would I have predicted the introduction of a millipede called Dave. marvels

Same. Needed it for the horses. Went to the pharmacy, spent a good five minutes in the queue poking myself in the eye so I could demonstrate my symptoms.

DuesToTheDirt · 01/06/2023 21:01

I cannot believe that you have Dave crawling up your arm! Shock

It wasn’t an auto correct 🤣🤣

This has got to be one of the best threads ever!

AppaTheSixLeggedFlyingBison · 01/06/2023 21:02

So many questions, and none of them are about men buying thrush cream at boots

How did you get into having pet millipedes?
Do you have to go to a specialist vet?
What do they eat?
Do they live in something like a glass cage? I'm assuming they don't free roam
What are the others names?

EmotionalSupportWyrm · 01/06/2023 21:02

They won't - one of my dogs has seasonal allergies and takes piriton (has to be that not piriteze) recommended by the vet, when I once answered honestly that it was for the dog I was refused it as they are "not licensed to sell animal meds". That taught me!

TooJoy · 01/06/2023 21:03

The NHS website says that men shouldn’t use that type of cream so it’s possible they were correct.

I love all animals, big and small but that millipede is something else.

I can imagine having nightmares of loads of little legs crawling over me 😨

I went in the other day and brought some hydrocortisone cream one sold me some. Went back a week later to get some more but one assistant told me she couldn't sell it to me as it was in my neck. I feel for your poor husband

I used to have this problem (I was refused hydrocortisone for my ears!) until I realised you can buy Bite and Sting Relief Cream with hydrocortisone from the supermarket shelf, so I've been using this for years now. Hope that helps!

The stupid thing is we needed it for the millipedes

Best thing I've seen on MN for a very long time!

IWouldBeSuperb · 01/06/2023 21:16

So wait...

Does Dave have thrush or diabetes?!
