How do I remove sinister Santa outfit from a cactus?

YesitsBess · 14/04/2023 18:52

My lovely sister got this little darling thing for my teenage son for Christmas. He loves it, as do I. However having gone way past 12th night we would now like to update his wardrobe/allow him to go 'au natural'.

Also he looks quite menacing and the other plants are a bit scared.

I've tried gently pulling the hat, no joy. I've tried tweezers on the grumpy eyes, I ended up with my other hand covered in prickles.

It is not glued on or secured by any other method I can see. Does anyone have any intimate knowledge on how to disrobe a festive novelty cactus?

Thanking you in advance.

He has a face for hats. He could totally rock a stovepipe hat, Isambard Kingdom Brunel styleXmas Smile

Oh yes! A Steampunk cactus .

@notprincehamlet this was where my mind went also.

There must be a purveyor of miniature stovepipe hats somewhere in the World.

Pootle needs this!

I'm just not sure what to do now. What do I do?

He looks...ridiculous without his titfer.

It is currently New Year’s Eve and I’ve randomly come across this post and I’m absolutely dying with laughter at this picture

Billybagpuss · 06/01/2025 19:42

Yes @YesitsBess please can we have an update on Pootle. Her babies must be raucous teenagers by now.

Billybagpuss · 06/01/2025 19:54

Also thank you to @bobbythejobby for resurrecting the thread as I got to see how much my own Santa cacti has changed in the last 2 years. He’s got fatter but no taller, but has acquired friends.

@Billybagpuss Is that little flowers on your cactus near the top? I've had lots of cacti but never had a flowering one (unless you count those ones with the fake flowers glued on top that it took me an embarrassingly long time to realise were fake).

Yes they totally took me by surprise but it has a ring of flowers every year around April now 😍 not bad for a 75p Christmas sale cactus

I am sorry to announce that Pootle died! We moved him to a bigger pot to accommodate the babies and he just keeled over.

My sister spent ages looking for a new one to no avail so we are in the market if anyone spots one.

Nooooo! I've been seeing these loads in our local garden centre - they make me chuckle every time! (Dobbies if you've one nearby, they had them all by the till when I was in there at the weekend)

YesitsBess · 07/01/2025 12:02

Thank you! I will see if we have a Dobbies nearby. Christmas was sad without Pootle and his little hat

Nooo 🪦 RIP pootle

bobbythejobby · 07/01/2025 12:31

aww no poor Pootle! Oh well at least there’s still this thread with the photos of his grumpy face. I confess I occasionally come back to this thread just to look at them again for the laughs.

I also have a cactus at the moment that’s keeling over. I think this is the third one I’ve had that’s gotten to a certain height then just toppled. Been trying to prop this one up but it’s not really working.

AnneKipankitoo · 07/01/2025 14:45

Oh no!

tailinthejam · 07/01/2025 14:53

RIP Pootle.
