How do I remove sinister Santa outfit from a cactus?

YesitsBess · 14/04/2023 18:52

My lovely sister got this little darling thing for my teenage son for Christmas. He loves it, as do I. However having gone way past 12th night we would now like to update his wardrobe/allow him to go 'au natural'.

Also he looks quite menacing and the other plants are a bit scared.

I've tried gently pulling the hat, no joy. I've tried tweezers on the grumpy eyes, I ended up with my other hand covered in prickles.

It is not glued on or secured by any other method I can see. Does anyone have any intimate knowledge on how to disrobe a festive novelty cactus?

Thanking you in advance.

This seems both reasonable and sane.

I've seen some cacti with sombereros on in the garden centre before so it must be a thing. Though you may end up being accused of cultural appropriation.

YesitsBess · 16/04/2023 11:45

In fairness, we don't know he isn't Mexican.

Good shout. And they wouldn't sell them in garden centres if it were an issue.

WitcheryDivine · 16/04/2023 12:37

I think he's been a really brave plant, trying to grow inside the stuffy confines of his unseasonal headwear. I'm so glad he's freeeeeeeeee!!!

WitcheryDivine · 16/04/2023 12:38

Might be going out on a limb here but I have a feeling he's not from the North Pole either.

You're not wrong.

I need to get him a new wardrobe. And a name. What do people call their cacti?

@AngryGreasedSantaCactus I thought the same thing since I NCed without RTFT , then saw OP quoting you. Then I saw the spelling mistake , found it funny , so decided to roll with it. However, I know it can cause confusion, so if you'd like me to NC again please let me know.

Depends which way you want to go.

Spike. Or MIL name/real life grumpy person. Victor (Meldrew)
Or go the other way, Cuddles, Snuggles etc.

Looking at yours I think (chainsaw wielding) Maniac fits better.

Elefant1 · 16/04/2023 15:09

It seems I have been very unoriginal naming my cactus spike.
He does look a lot less grumpy without the hat, not actually cheerful but less grumpy. Possibly a smile would help https://www.amazon.co.uk/TOYANDONA-80pcs-Mouth-Stickers-Smile/dp/B088WH572Q

Have you considered "Mr Happypants"

"Mr Testiprickles"

Or perhaps "Ed Balls"

AndyandTeddyarewavinggoodbye · 16/04/2023 15:45

The Prick. Just call him The Prick.

Seems fair.

Billybagpuss · 16/04/2023 15:50

Oh dear just listening to gardens questions on R4 they started by grumbling about artificial grass, then painted heathers, then said don’t get me started on people who stick baubles on cacti 😂

I am laughing. Sorry. But you also have the only correct spelling of Keef and that always makes me laugh.

I think you should go with Angry greased cat bus because that gives me Totoro vibes.

I COULD GET HIM TOTORO EARS AND AN UMBRELLA
