To be traumatised by my own undercarriage?!

As I was wiping this morning it felt a bit sensitive down below which is unusual so I thought I’d have a look and see what’s going on.

WELL

I haven’t looked at my vulva since my second DC was born three years ago and dear god I will never look again. My poor vulva which, let’s be honest wouldn’t have won a beauty contest before but was perfectly serviceable and ‘normal’ looking’, looks like it’s been blended. Or put through a washing machine. I don’t think there is anything ‘wrong’ with it (infection, prolapse etc) but it looks awful. The labia are fine but inside there’s like a squishy circle (?!) that’s all flappy and messy with protruding skin. I actually almost felt tearful and hugely embarrassed that DH has seen it in all its messy glory.

Is this normal?! I’ve had two vaginal births. I don’t have any pain, might get some caneston in case of thrush but I don’t think there’s a medical issue it’s just a hideous mess. I had a smear recently and kind practice nurse didn’t say anything and I assume she would of I’d have had an abundance of genital warts/prolapse.

I did tell DH earlier I’d had a look and was mortified and he was banned from the area unless pitch black. He just laughed and said he’d honestly not noticed any different and he loves me and wouldn’t care. Reassuring although he is known for being completely oblivious Grin

Sorry I've only read your initial post
There is nothing wrong with your vulva.
Don't give it another thought.

heyitsthistle · 15/08/2022 21:22

After giving birth to DD2 I looked at my undercarriage and burst into tears. I had a prolapse and an episiotomy. I felt like I had been mutilated.

Fast forward a year and I couldn't give a toss, and DH has never even noticed. The only difference is I can't take it from behind anymore (ouch!).

Bitterbean · 15/08/2022 21:22

A squishy circle sounds like a cystocele or a rectocele - which is a prolapse of either the front of back wall of the vagina (or both, which I have!)

Totally normal and I assure you that your DH is absolutely happy with it. Despite what porn would have us believe, 99% of men absolutely do not care what your fanny looks like. They're just excited to be near one.

Pmsl at this 😂

Ruibies · 15/08/2022 21:25

I'm 12w postpartum and mine looks like a war zone. I also had such a shit time healing that I started taking photos to monitor how everything was going, and now have a horrifying hidden album of up close fanny pics on my phone 😅

DuchessSilver · 15/08/2022 21:27

After my second vaginal birth to a massive child, a helpful nurse checking for infection tactfully said "ergh, look at that!" to my husband. And I've not dared look since.

IceStationZebra · 15/08/2022 21:28

I think I am one of the luckier ones as mine looks fairly similar to how it did before giving birth - not identical, but no major issues, despite a large baby, fairly substantial tear and several stitches. I do remember trying to look the day after giving birth, though, and not being able to physically manage it or lift my leg high enough/shift my still-bloated belly out of the way.

After a nasty forceps delivery of a 10lb plus baby student midwives kept arriving at my bed and asking if I was the lady with the rear end (I thought everyone had one) and could they have a look at the bruising because they'd heard how bad it was (it was.) In the end I said I was going to start selling tickets. I think they got the message as it stopped.

I haven't dared look in 30 years but I imagine the bruising has gone now.

KangarooKenny · 15/08/2022 21:36

I’ve got a round piece of pink flesh inside my vagina that I thought was a prolapse. When I had a smear I asked the Gp and she said it was normal after a vaginal birth.

CherryogDog · 15/08/2022 21:43

My prolapse looks like a willy has snapped inside me and left dangling.
My labia are halfway to my belly button due to a DIEP flap reconstruction after my mastectomy.
In the right light you can see the dense sward on my areola made from skin from my stomach.
My pubes are very sparse but what's left is straight and some of it is 3" long.
The top half of me isn't ageing well either 😂

velvetvixen · 15/08/2022 21:43

I wouldn't be able to pick mine out of a line up
😂

Siameasy · 15/08/2022 21:43

Roadkill, honestly

Bentoforthehorde · 15/08/2022 21:45

I've recently had an abcess on my nethers. There's all kinds of terrible things going on down there at the moment and I tell you what, I wish I had looked more this decade because I genuinely couldn't remember what 'normal' looks like.
What is it they say? Look down your throat every now and then, because one day there'll be something wrong with it and you won't remember what it usually looks like. 🤣

Give over. Anyone who finds this thread is arousing must have extremely niche interests.

Meanwhile the rest of us are finding it either hilarious, comforting, or both!

i was shocked at how dark my bum hole and surrounding area is (I was looking at a pile)

the whole area seems to have darkened with age

agree with others men don’t care like we don’t care their balls somehow become even uglier as they age

This is so so funny.

Garfieldonthebox · 15/08/2022 21:56

So grateful for this thread!

I have a rectocele (sp) which I only got a couple of years after having Dd, now 4. I had stitches and forceps during birth.
I hate it! The doctors have just left it as it is 🤷🏻‍♀️It doesn’t cause me any trouble but I hate the feeling and mainly the way my bum hole feels now 🙈can’t really explain it, really slack and can’t poo properly, just feels weird! Does anyone else have it?
Always panicking my vagina is just going to one day fall out…I wouldn’t dare look at it up close

BadNomad · 15/08/2022 21:58

Bananalanacake · 15/08/2022 14:49

Has anyone else lost their perineum? As in, the vagina keeps going until it reaches the wall of the anus.

I have the opposite issue. My bumhole is a million miles away from my vagina. Always has been. Any others I've seen, the two are right there, an inch apart. But not me. 😭

MaisyMoo2022 · 15/08/2022 22:09

I think fannies age like the rest of our body regardless of childbirth.

JaceLancs · 15/08/2022 22:17

I don’t check mine out that often but was shocked a few years ago to find the whole area a dark bluey purple and assumed it was down to my advancing age
Put me off looking again for a while - when I did it was back to my normal healthy pink - so no idea what all that was about

Scotabroad24 · 15/08/2022 22:17

Genuinely snorting with laughter at this thread!

I looked once about 4 weeks pp and swore down I'd never ever venture near there with a mirror again, was enough to traumatise me . I still sometimes get flashbacks of the vision and have to distract myself before I start sweating. I had an episiotomy and tear with ds which was stitched horrifically resulting in weird flaps and bubbles of protruding skin, and piles which despite repeated efforts are here to stay. Luckily for me dh has never complained... he's probably too scared to mention it.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 15/08/2022 22:20

Now I really want to (don't want to) take a look, but thankfully I'm at work.

It's the post menopausal hair loss that gets me. Nobody EVER mentioned that this happens, and I fully expected to become grizzly gray or white, but not to have... I don't know - a monk's tonsure? There remains hair in all of the inconvenient bits, and on the sides, but there is a large swath of totally bald - shiny bald! - skin in the middle of my mons - where it used to be copiously curly. What? How did that happen? I seriously spent many, many long minutes contemplating what might have rubbed the hair off.

Blad. Bald and probably horribly ugly. I'm a little sorry that I lost all of that weight and can now see it all again. Only consolation is that the thing works for all the things it should, so I guess I'll keep it and be grateful.

NoEffingWay · 15/08/2022 22:34

DS was effing massive and was dragged out of me with forceps and a women (I assume a doctor 😂) hung off the bed with her leg and used her entire body weight to yank him out of me.

After the surgery to fix the prolapse, I dared to have a look. The only analogy I can come up with is that my vagina looks like a fluffy cashmere jumper that's been boil washed and dyed purple.

DP loves it so I have decided to give precisely zero fucks!

SucculentSunshine · 15/08/2022 22:40

Mine is nice and neat until I squat. Then It looks like predator.
