Just thought I'd better start a new thread for those of you who would like to see updates before the old one is totally full.

All still good here! I've been a bit low on iron but the tablets REALLY don't agree with me. So I've started just taking one in the morning with orange juice, and having a spoonful of Floridix in the afternoon and making an effort to eat spinach and red meat.
I've been feeling baby OMG moving around a lot more now he's getting bigger and stronger, which is lovely although slightly alarming at times!

We've probably got a maximum of 7 weeks to go now as I understand the drs are not keen for older mums to go much over 39 weeks. Eeeek.
Will keep you all posted.

Lovely update, glad to hear it is all going well despite the bone shattering tiredness. It never fails to amaze me that after doing the most physically exhausting event of your life you then are kept in a sleep deprived state for weeks.

Have you settled on a name (not asking you to share, he will be Brian forever on here ) glad to hear your DH is taking to his new role.

Letsgoforaskip · 01/08/2022 10:27

What a brilliant update! Lucky baby to have two adoring parents.
I had lots of stitches too and found saltwater soaking really helped. They were sore for a few days then suddenly rapidly improved. Obviously advice may have changed about this.
Enjoy those blissful newborn cuddles.

prettybird · 01/08/2022 10:46

I was also advised to have baths (not too hot) with lavender essential oil, both for the healing of the stitches and for the relaxation Smile

loopycurtains · 01/08/2022 11:11

Wonderful. Sending love to family OMG!

EmeraldShamrock1 · 01/08/2022 11:33

Lavender wasn't great for me it caused swelling around my stitches.

I probably used too much.

I used saline after that.

Omgwhatthehell · 01/08/2022 14:47

In the hospital they said not to have a bath, because it would dissolve the stitches. Which is a shame as I love a bath.
I’ll have to ask the midwife when I can have one. She’s been round today and checked the stitches and said it’s all still quite swollen but healing.

i just remembered someone upthread asked what had happened with the original procedure I was supposed to be having when I found out I was pregnant. I was supposed to be having a colposcopy due to irregular periods. So just a close look at my cervix to rule out anything bad.
They can’t do this in pregnancy so it was cancelled.
I’m assuming given the amount of attention my cervix has had recently they’d have picked up on anything, but I might mention it to my drs.

I think you can have a lukewarm bath, double check with the midwife.

I had stitches and it was okay to use a bath.

Yes do mention your previous concerns with your GP down the road, for now enjoy your beautiful baby.

ScreechingEchoChamber · 01/08/2022 15:50

So glad to hear it's all going well.

I found Spatone (sachets of iron-rich water) really help my iron when I need a boost, and its gentle on my stomach.

Some stitches are dissolvable and some not, so I would check. Arnica tablets are good for bruising/swelling.

TheMagicDeckchair · 01/08/2022 21:52

Consultant told me I could bathe for 20mins max a day with my stitches. Check with your midwife.
It’s such a lovely story, my twins were a sort of surprise as it took years & 2 rounds of ICSI to have my first and I wasn’t holding out much hope of a sibling, especially given that I was 40 when I conceived. Enjoy those newborn snuggles and try to get some rest too.

Alondra · 02/08/2022 07:17

Congratulations OMG. I've followed your posts from the beginning but this is the first time I've posted.

I'm delighted Brian is doing great and breastfeeding is going good as well. As to the stitches, always follow your medical advice. They take time to heal properly but you want to make sure they heal without problems.

Motherhood is tiring but so exquisitely rewarding that you and Mr OMG will enjoy every minute of it.

nettie434 · 02/08/2022 07:24

I think the advice about bathing depends on the type of stitches you have but hopefully you are getting to the point where you are able to have a bath - perhaps crunching on one of your ice lollies for the full luxury effect 😀

Alondra · 02/08/2022 08:01

I know people are recommending to have a bath, I don't. Water has pathogens (bacteria) which is the reason medical professionals recommend not to have a bath when the stiches are fresh and the bacteria can slow the process of healing.

If you want to speed up the process, boil half a litre of water for 5 minutes with a teaspon of salt and let it cool. Bath the stitches with an antiseptic swab from the chemist (they are not expensive), discard and repeat the process a couple of times a day. You don't want bacteria in those stiches.

Omgwhatthehell · 02/08/2022 08:27

I’m seeing the midwife again on Saturday so will ask for advice about bathing then.
Unfortunately the episiotomy area has got really sore and swollen after I had a little walk yesterday afternoon so I’m going to listen to my body and rest at home today. I might try a cold compress on the area. And cold compresses on my boobs as they are huge and hard!

Oh wow, what a beautiful, beautiful baby boy. Massive congratulations!!!

YerAWizardHarry01 · 03/08/2022 06:52

I'm so pleased for you! Congratulations what a gorgeous little boy. I remember your original post and got goosebumps when I juat caught up on this one. Hope you're recovering well and feeling OK xx

NothingIsCertain · 03/08/2022 20:05

Freeze your pads, the cool feeling is amazing when sore. I also use to pop sudacrem on mine too, however I would check with your Midwife, as I didn't have stitches, just lots of grazes 😳

Glad everything is going well, enjoy the newborn bubble xx

summerlovinvibes · 04/08/2022 07:45

@Omgwhatthehell just on the note of colposcopy, def ask for what their plan is. Not sure if you know much about the procedure / cervix etc but during pregnancy it would look very different to how it normally would anyway, and any early cell changes are invisible to the naked eye hence the colp procedure. Not wanting to scare or upset you during this wonderful time with your new baby, just looking out for your health as a mum to mum. These things often get forgotten about because we get so busy with life, but your health is important :) .

You need to wait 3-6 months from having had a baby to be able to have a colposcopy though so no rush. However it is worth mentioning incase you're in an area with long waits, if they know you need one still they can pop you back on the list for in 4/5 months time ish :) x

Omgwhatthehell · 04/08/2022 08:33

That’s good to know @summerlovinvibes I’ll definitely look into it sooner rather than later.

You got through the first week of motherhood OMG. I hope it's going well. What an utter sweetheart your baby boy is. 💐

WheelofLife · 04/08/2022 12:06

I remember your first thread too, Congratulations!!! X

SunsetandCupcakes · 10/08/2022 16:31

Just coming to check in and see how you are, as amazing as it is those first few weeks months are bloody tough

Omgwhatthehell · 11/08/2022 17:21

We are doing pretty well thanks 😊
I’ve been lucky and found breastfeeding relatively easy, which I’m very thankful for as baby OMG is gaining weight.
We’ve had a few nights where he has been fighting sleep and crying until the early hours. I suspect because of wind. But we’ve also had nights like last night when he only woke up twice for nappy changes and feeding.

My stitches feel loads better, but we’re still taking it quite easy. We’ve been on a couple of short walks and had a couple of friends visit, but it’s too hot to do much anyway.

He’s asleep on me now as I relax in front of our fan.
He is very cute, even if I do say so myself, so it’s all worthwhile.

So glad it is going so well, enjoy it all.

Dita73 · 11/08/2022 22:20

So happy for you xx

MatildaJayne · 12/08/2022 15:18

Lovely to read your updates. 👶🏻 Glad it’s going well. If you do get sore nipples from breastfeeding the best advice I ever received was to ignore the ‘letting them dry’ advice and to keep them moist with vaseline. Sounds like you’re doing fine, though.
