I bloody love a nice hotel. What is your favourite hotel you’ve stayed in?

Mine would be:
Crowne Plaza Changi (Singapore) and got upgraded to the roof terrace suite. Absolutely loved it.
The Langham Hong Kong and stayed in the junior suite!

Oh completely forgot Salt Lick hotel in Kenya. Not the fanciest in terms of amenities but the elephants were literally in the lobby!

The fanciest/ most expensive place I stayed was an executive suite in the four seasons in Riyadh. It was bigger than my flat with a TV in the bathroom mirror but it was rather soulless.

I'm a sucker for a heritage hotel generally. I think the new big towers can just be a bit generic.

Raffles in Dubai for service

Four seasons and Wynn in Las Vegas for beds , bathrooms, restaurants and pools

Waldorf Astoria la Quinta near Palm Springs (specifically a starlight casita suite) for location

Demortuisnilnisibonum · 06/07/2021 22:36

Hotel Arts, Barcelona, just after it opened, many years ago - the largest, comfiest bed ever.
Les Bories, Provence - divine breakfast, with a beautiful view.
Hilton, Malta - so relaxing, with excellent staff.

@Bearsbearsbears40

The Fairmont Singapore is my favourite, but I’ve also stayed in a Holiday Inn in Singapore (with free upgrade) and the service at both has been second to none (as has the air con!!).
Yep! I find that hotel standards in Singapore tend to be excellent, irrespective of star rating.

Bateleur Camp - Kenya
Banyan Tree - Seychelles
Como’s Cocoa Island - Maldives
I miss gorgeous hotels.

ChimneyPot · 06/07/2021 22:37

I live this thread because I love to plan holidays.
Some mentioned that I love.

My kids still mention the Nam Hai in Hoi An, though I think it is a Four Seasons now, and the Banyon Tree in Phuket.

I love the Belmond in Cusco and for location the Sanctuary Lodge in Machu Picchu

I love the Merrion and am fitting in a night in the Westbury next week because it is the only way to dine inside a restaurant in Ireland at the moment but my favourite hotel in Ireland is Ballyfin.

My favourite that I have ever stayed in anywhere is the Gora Kadan in Hakone in Japan.

HelloMissus · 06/07/2021 22:38

I regularly stay in Shutters Santa Monica for work. Love it.

The Lake Palace: more photos with room and view from room
As you arrive, two people sprinkle rose petals on you from the roof. It has its own boat and you cannot visit it unless you are staying so it is incredibly peaceful.

@Mummadeze

I ended up in Bangkok on my own on Christmas Eve so splurged on one night in a lovely hotel with a roof top pool. Can’t remember the name (sorry) but they upgraded me to a suite and it was amazing. Especially after having backpacked in shitty hostels for a month previous. I also spent one night with a friend in the Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur during that trip which was pretty luxurious and a break from slumming it too.
Shangri-la kl was the most luxurious I had stayed in at the time. Not only was the room great but the restaurant was amazing....the lunch buffet just blew me away! It was my first time in that sort of hotel and will remain a wonderful memory.

Someone up thread mentioned a Premier Inn - on my 40th they organised an extra bed so we could fit 5 in a room (it was a big one) - and they left a card and flowers for me. And I wasn't a regular at that hotel. Little touches make a big difference to your experience.

ClosdesMouches · 06/07/2021 22:43

@Joolsin

Das Tegernsee in Bavaria - stunning breakfast terrace with views over the lakes and mountains.
This one looks lovely, have just bookmarked it. Thanks!
Littleone638 · 06/07/2021 22:44

The Conrad in New York, bloody massive rooms by Manhattan standards and the most amazing french toast at breakfast.

The Shangri La Bar Al Jissah in Muscat, the views were to die for and I could have stayed forever. We were due to go last October and I can’t wait to get back.

Other amazing hotel I’ve been to (not stayed at) was the Oberoi resort in Ranthambore (India) we had tea there and the service was just out of this world. The hotel we stayed in at Ranthambore was also pretty lovely but not too fancy, just lovely big rooms and a nice atmosphere.

Bortles · 06/07/2021 22:44

Ooh, good thread op. I find, while the facilities and public area vary wildly, the rooms dont at the bigger ones. A suite at The Dorchester or a Novotel double are fairly similar!

I think a lot of people will say UAE hotels. But for me, characterful ones are best. A hotel in Trastevere in Rome called 'Del Corso' had French windows and a balcony onto a market square and it was the best way to wake up. Whereas The Hyatt Regency in Aruba had the best breakfasts. I liked the lobby of The Edwardian in Manchester with its piano player.

ramarama · 06/07/2021 22:45

@goldpendant was that the one built into the rock, with big boulders within the lobby etc? (we had lunch there, but couldn't stay)

Callingallbutterflies · 06/07/2021 22:46

Someone asked for something close to home. I will add Tresanton in St Mawes, Cornwall. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.

OllyBJolly · 06/07/2021 22:46

I’m lucky enough to have stayed in some lovely places but the most special has been Cape Fahn in Koh Samuii www.capefahnhotel.com/

We had an Ocean View room and the location meant we could have been completely on our own. Food was fabulous, constant fruits and drinks at the pool, and a fabulous breakfast served to us in out own pool. So perfect.

In the UK, hard to beat Gleneagles although for pure fun and fab food the Plockton Inn is fabulous on a Thursday when they have the music night.

ramarama · 06/07/2021 22:46

best hotel Uxua, Trancoso, Brazil (except we had to move from our honeymoon villa cottage to another, because the neighbour's rooster was making too much noise :-)

BakedTattie · 06/07/2021 22:47

Have stayed in loads of v plush hotels all around the world due to work - many of the Ritz Carltons and Four Seasons etc. All a bit the same - so love individual places such as Cliveden or Ladera on St Lucia where the Robinson Crusoe style three storey suites open to the elements with an infinity pool in your lounge .... all v private and romantic. Amazing to be huddled in your 4 poster with a mad electric tropical storm kicking off.

HundredMilesAnHour · 06/07/2021 22:49

I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned the Metropole in Hanoi (aka Sofitel Legend Metropole).
