YeokensYegg Best and most expensive aren’t synonymous in my experience. More often it’s about the whole experience rather than the size of the beds.
I’ve stayed in some very luxurious Middle Eastern ones (Burj al Arab, Jumeirah beach etc) but after two days you start to see the person sweeping the floor before you walk on it or press the lift call button for you. Then the luxury becomes a bit uncomfortable.
My favourites are a bit left of field probably.
Earls Regent in Kandy for fantastic service and monkeys around the pool. Love Kandy.
Mount Lavinia for the train ride into the city and the beach restaurant.
Peninsula HK just pips Langham HK. Langham has excellent executive lounge but my best memory of HK is arriving, finding my husband and then rushing out of Peninsula hotel, grabbing a McDonalds to eat whilst watching the Christmas lights over the harbour. The hotel staff were very happy to tell us where to grab a takeaway whilst they sorted our luggage.
The Ritz Carlton in Abu Dhabi also offered very personal service with their soprano learning the song I walked down the aisle to for our wedding anniversary dinner. The beach club chap always reserved our favourite spot and offered magazines and cooled water on arrival.
In India, the Leela Palace in Bangalore and Taj group were very comfortable but the Evolve Back resorts at Kabini and Hampi we’re far more memorable.
In Paris we usually stay in a friends apartment in 7th, but the Molitor is my favourite hotel because of the pool. Belle Rives in d’Antibes is lovely too, but that’s about the history and the location.
