We pay a company to clean our bins once a month on bin day. I’m not usually home when they come, but I’m off work today And happened to be in the kitchen. I watched my next door neighbour wait until the cleaner left, take the house number sticker off my bin and put it on his, then swap our bin for his so he had the cleaned bin and I had a non-cleaned one.

He was back in his house before I had time to contain the dog and go outside but now DH is home, WIBU to go round and ask for my bin back??

Yay for OP's DH!!!

Don't forget to paint your bin number underneath your bin too, then no matter if CFCouncillor even tries to do the number-move again, you'll have your proof.

theemmadilemma · 28/06/2021 21:21

😂 OMFG. How cheeky.

Percypigg · 28/06/2021 21:22

I adore this thread. You and your DH are fab.

Hollywolly1 · 28/06/2021 21:23

The neighbour was a real dirt bag to do that

Iloveacurry · 28/06/2021 21:23

Brilliant!

MrsMackesy · 28/06/2021 21:23

This is just the sort of sneaky thing Matt Hancock would do - are they related?

billy1966 · 28/06/2021 21:23

@BlueLobelia

One of my colleagues gets her wheelie bin cleaned every month- but it costs £42 apparently. I thought that was mega nuts.

Well done OP and OP DH.

(Now if you could sort out the CF who parks half blocking my drive in her fucking BMW from Tuesdays-Saturdays please.... )

Get really sticky stickers and plaster her car windscreen around the edges, with "don't park here" written on them. Very annoying to remove.

I know of someone who did this whose mother was constantly being blocked in by parents collecting children near a school. She was getting attitude from them when asked to move their tanks.
It worked.

DH is home WITH THE BIN. Victory is ours!

Apparently he made a half hearted attempt to argue that ‘wheelie bins are council property not personal property’ but apparently DH asked whether that meant he was allowed to steal our cleaned bin and he said ‘its not stealing, it’s not your bin!’ Hmm

When they were standing outside, DH was asking them to remove their bag of rubbish from the bin so he could take it back. Binstealers wife said DH was being petty and to just leave the bins how they were. DH said he’d be happy to, but she needed to pay us the £9 for the bin cleaning or come over with her marigolds and get scrubbing Grin

I love that man I do. He’s extremely pleased with himself and I’ve not seen him this cock sure for years!

Omg this is hilarious and bonkers all at the same time.
Guavaf1sh · 28/06/2021 21:26

They should make this into a film

SallyCinnabon · 28/06/2021 21:26

The actual entitlement and audacity to try and justify it too! What absolute disgraces!

AmyandPhilipfan · 28/06/2021 21:26

Ah, a secondary teacher. Often very good at taking cheeky so and sos down a peg or two if they dare to answer back! 😆

My husband is very possessive of our bin. It was often taken by a neighbour where we used to live and he would lie in wait to nab it back as soon as it was emptied the next week! Once, when he couldn’t track it down he wrote in big chalk letters ‘give me back my bin you bin thief!’ on our back wall! Fortunately since we moved we don’t seem to have the same bother!

No, but he does have a Margaret Thatcher commemorative plate in a cabinet in his dining room... she glares at me through my living room window the hag.

Say no more, OP. Like Thatcher, he'll be coming after your milk next.

NigellaSeed · 28/06/2021 21:30

Does DH know he is now a MN hero?

KitKat1985 · 28/06/2021 21:30

That is epic cheeky-fuckery. Well done to your DH on his glorious victory. Grin

JackieWeaversAuthorityHere · 28/06/2021 21:30

@NigellaSeed

Does DH know he is now a MN hero?
He does, he’s poured himself a whiskey.

So do I now!!

Am now off to check out local bin cleaning services. 🌹

2018SoFarSoGreat · 28/06/2021 21:35

Raising my coffee cup to your lovely DH. What a man. A man among men!! Don't both putting your name OR number on your bin. Just put a picture of DHtheBravest on the lid AND the body. That should do the trick :)

MrsMackesy · 28/06/2021 21:37

@MrsMackesy

What did he say about swapping the stickers over - did DH challenge him about that bit?
Sorry but I need to know the answer to this @JackieWeaversAuthorityHere
BumbleFlump · 28/06/2021 21:38

My bins haven’t been cleaned in nearly 15 years ... in fact one of them even longer because it came with the house 😱

sfeirical · 28/06/2021 21:39

@Schrutesbeets

Give that man a blow job! 👏🏼

Ew.

GreyhoundG1rl · 28/06/2021 21:40

Why did you watch him do it?! I'd have been out there at the speed of light.

MadisonAvenue · 28/06/2021 21:43

Your husband is now a MN legend!

I noticed our freshly cleaned bin had disappeared recently after the bin cleaners had done their thing. I looked on our security camera and it showed our WFH neighbour walk past our drive on his way back from the shop, take our bin and wheel it along the footpath and down his drive, going past his own bin in the process, to by his back gate, then walk back up his drive and past his own bin again to get to his front door.
I was straight back out to reclaim it.
I don’t think he was being a CF, he’s just a bit dopey.

Blonchette · 28/06/2021 21:49

I can’t believe Mrs BinThief had the nerve to call your (amazing incredible heroic) dh petty. How did she categorise Mr BinThief’s bin-napping I wonder? As Hunter-gatherer behaviour perhaps?

As an aside, we get our bin cleaned once a month and have done for years - it costs something like £3 a clean. Wonder what the people who pay £24 a clean are getting for their money that we’re not.

SallyCinnabon · 28/06/2021 21:50

Me too, with my phone, recording this local councillor 🤭
