We pay a company to clean our bins once a month on bin day. I’m not usually home when they come, but I’m off work today And happened to be in the kitchen. I watched my next door neighbour wait until the cleaner left, take the house number sticker off my bin and put it on his, then swap our bin for his so he had the cleaned bin and I had a non-cleaned one.

He was back in his house before I had time to contain the dog and go outside but now DH is home, WIBU to go round and ask for my bin back??

YABU to ask. Just take it

NeonDreams · 29/06/2021 00:47

Well done your husband! CFers get away with things because people won't stand up to them, your DH did a public service. I'd make sure all the Councillors know by way of a 'just checking, my Councillor neighbour tried to steal my clean bin and they said bins are not personal property - are they?' question.

Also, if you haven't, make sure you get CCTV where you bin is, and then paint the bin number on at least 2 sides.

Henio · 29/06/2021 00:50

Pretty sure we own our wheelie bins where I live, I just had to buy a new one for the house I've just moved into, as the one already here was broken

AGirlCalledJohnny · 29/06/2021 00:55

@PerkingFaintly

I'm just here to enjoy the nominative determinism of JackieWeaversAuthorityHere tackling a misbehaving local councillor.

(OK, MrJackieWeaversAuthorityHere in the end. But what a result!)

Right??!
travellinglighter · 29/06/2021 01:05

Now the bin has been reclaimed. Time for the real revenge. Write to the council and explain what a member of the council has done then write to the chairman of the local conservative association and ask why they have such am obviously corrupt individual to represent them.

I’d never let this go because if you ever want planning permission then the Tory twat will have input unless you can discredit him.

nettie434 · 29/06/2021 01:17

What a result! You have both been magnificent. Shocking it was a local councillor. Given they moan about weeds and dirty windows, you have now shamed them for having a dirty bin too.

VaizyCrazyDaizy · 29/06/2021 01:18

Scratch your number into it with a knife on the bottom so he won’t be tempted again!

Thedogscollar · 29/06/2021 01:22

Loved this thread. Your DH pitched it perfectly, especially loved the marigolds comment, just brilliant.
I'm imagining ndn eyebrows going up to her hairline.
Can't get over the nerve of him thinking what he did was ok.
But hey that's a Tory for you cheeky, lying fs

MadinMarch · 29/06/2021 06:24

I would I just cant afford it at the moment. But then I throw the cat litter straight in, never have enough strong bags for it. Plus surely it's better to clean it a few times rather than use yet more plastic.

OMG! That's beyond gross!!!

SpeakingFranglais · 29/06/2021 06:28

wonderful update.

does no one get the hosepipe and bleach out every other Thursday like me then and clean their own?

cocoloco987 · 29/06/2021 07:28

It is one of the more grim things I've read on mumsnet. Not many smells worse than cat piss and shit. Must be honking in summer.
strawberrydonuts · 29/06/2021 07:46

This thread is hilarious Grin

Can't believe how petty people (i.e. your neighbour) can be, and still trying to justify it even once he's been called out!

I am loving the image of your husband swelling with pride and telling everyone lol

Lalliella · 29/06/2021 07:48

@ThinWomansBrain

this stands up well against last weeks' bastard monkfish thread Grin
@ThinWomansBrain please link that thread
Lalliella · 29/06/2021 07:49

Brilliant thread OP, have nominated you for Classics

SiobhanSharpe · 29/06/2021 07:56

@MrsMackesy

A Tory councillor, you say? Now I believe it. Could he be inserted into the dirty wheelie bin and let go at the top of a hill?
Excellent!
Tal45 · 29/06/2021 08:03

I love this thread.

Seesawmummadaw · 29/06/2021 08:11

Your Dh needs to stand for town councillor Wink

Run247 · 29/06/2021 08:12

And paint something like "I'm a twat" on his bin

JackieWeaversAuthorityHere · 29/06/2021 08:13

Aaaah thanks for all the love, I’m glad we entertained you all for an evening!

I would post a photo of ddog, but he’s a cross with a rare breed and very recognisable from the breeds Facebook group so it would be a bit outing sadly! Imagine a very hairy grey Shetland pony that farts a lot and always smells damp for no reason and you’re there. He’s a local legend because of his size as well so again he’s pretty outing. I’ll give him a cuddle from all of you though.

NDN has been out this morning watering the hanging baskets, DH was just heading out with Ddog and there was some glaring and pursing of lips, so I think we’ve poked the hornets nest on this one.

Bravo to OP’s DH, I love it when a CF gets a proper comeuppance.

JackieWeaversAuthorityHere · 29/06/2021 08:17

@SpeakingFranglais

wonderful update.

does no one get the hosepipe and bleach out every other Thursday like me then and clean their own?

We used to, but it’s £9 a month and they come twice: once to do the blue bin and then the next bin day they come and do the brown and grey bins. It’s an extravagance and I love it. Worth every penny!

RestingPandaFace · 29/06/2021 08:18

This is really funny, but it’s also absolutely shocking behaviour from a councillor, it’s effectively stealing the cleaning service, and then all the bluster about council property.

It would be terrible if it was reported to the monitoring officer at the local council.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 29/06/2021 08:21

amazing thread.
kudos to your DH
now Paint the number on your bin

what a cheek!

supermoonrising · 29/06/2021 08:27

I’ve said before and I’ll say it again, there’s nothing the least bit “Conservative” about most Tory politicians these days. Swindlers and chancers and dog eat dog! They couldn’t give a stuff if society burns to the ground around them, just as long as they were able to grab their suitcase of stash before it did.

LookItsMeAgain · 29/06/2021 08:30

My chin is well and truly on the ground with this one.
It ticks so many boxes -

  • Tory Councillor
  • bin stealing
  • it's not stealing as it's not really yours anyway
  • a DH keeping his cool and managing to outwit the bin stealers.

Make sure to get some permanent markers or paint and paint the number of your house on the inside of the bin lid and on the base of the bin itself.

They are cheeky feckers to be sure. Do keep us posted on any fall out from this.

I'd love to know how many other times Councillor BinStealer has stolen your freshly washed bins in the past?
