Disclaimer - I love animals and im fascinated by them! But truly some have an aura of menace about them...
To start, I give you the Shoebill Stork. Not dangerous or anything but...disconcerting.

This is the exact animal that popped into my head when I read the title.

It looks absolutely terrifying! I didn't believe it was real when I first saw, but alas, it is.

I agree on so many of these.

1. Racoons. We came out of our building once (during lockdown) and came face-to-face with one and it looked at us like we were the problem. [NB I live in Los Angeles. You can stop feaking out now.]
2. Naked mole-rats. Disgusting habits too.
3. Lampreys. People used to eat them too. No, God, please, no.
4. That hammer-head bat. Looks like Yoda went over to the Dark Side.
5. Harpy Eagle. Obviously not real: escaped from Greek mythology.
6. I thought the Secretary Bird was extinct thanks to its feathers. Unfortunately, I was wrong.
7. Star-nosed mole: model for that monster from Stranger Things 1.
8. Dik dik. Afrikaans for 'dildo' for a reason.

Northern stargazer fish. They make me want to cry.

I’m on board with the dolphin hate but am rather fond of a sloth.

Those giant Galapagos turtles - look like ET

Lampreys are top of my list. Along with ticks. I almost have a phobia of them and live in a high tick area. So have had to deal with a fair few. Burying their tiny heads into my children’s bodies and sucking their blood.

And there’s something not quite right about Queen termites.

Orangutans, but mostly because they eat baby lorises, which WHAT. I thought they were herbivores.

Those maned wolves just look so wrong.

But my least favourite (apart from spiders) is the jerboa. It looks incomplete.

I used to work with a golden retriever that had a really sleazy grin- gave me the creeps!

Bull terriers. Something weird about the shape of their heads and the tiny beady flush set eyes creeps me out. Sorry if you have/love one! I do think the knowledge that it can be one of the more dangerous breeds influences my opinion. I wouldn't go anywhere near one personally.

@Soubriquet "shedding the velvet" sounds like some kind of interesting euphemism...
