to think it's really cheeky to invite someone to a BBQ then expect them to bring...

...The BBQ!?

We were invited last week to a friends today for a BBQ. They called this morning asking to borrow our BBQ, we assumed there's had broken or the one they ordered hadn't arrived etc - but no. They don't have one. So we suggested they come to ours and bring some of the stuff they'd bought as our BBQ is very heavy and large (won't fit in the car without removing the child seats and lying all seats flat) but it turns out, that not only did they want us to bring our BBQ, they wanted us to leave it at theirs as they are having other friends this evening.

Was IBU to say no? That I didn't want to take our large BBQ and gas bottle to their house and leave it with them?

Not U, that is pretty cheeky of them!

ilovecarbs90 · 11/04/2021 16:37

It sounds like they only invited you for the BBQ...

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 11/04/2021 16:37

Not a chance, as host you ensure you have everything needed ti cater for your guests. Very cheeky.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 11/04/2021 16:38

Cheeky enough to invite people to a BBQ when you don’t have one, cheekier still to expect you to leave it with them so they can carry on using it!

Shame it won’t fit in the car eh, OP? Wink

CrazyHorse · 11/04/2021 16:39

Hahahaha!

They'll have to turn their oven on

FenceSplinters · 11/04/2021 16:39

Wow, that is so cheeky! You were right to say no. How did they respond?

Insomnia5 · 11/04/2021 16:39

Cheeky fuckers. I often wonder whether life is easier for people with more front than Harrods.

Butchyrestingface · 11/04/2021 16:40

How long have you known this friend, OP?

Do they have form for being a cheeky cunt?

8dpwoah · 11/04/2021 16:40

Crikey I thought you were going to say they asked you to bring the burgers or something!

At a push, if they'd realised they'd ran out of gas and knew you had some, I'd have probably gone with that assuming they are the sort to replace it. But not the whole bloody BBQ! Lesson learned there!

problembottom · 11/04/2021 16:40

Just no. I’d be reconsidering the friendship after that...

SixDegrees · 11/04/2021 16:41

That’s really really cheeky of them.

There were stacks of disposable BBQs in my local Tesco yesterday, I’m sure your friends could have found something similar if they’d tried!

PyjamaFan · 11/04/2021 16:41

The cheeky sods!

I would say no and cancel.

ColourfulElmerElephant · 11/04/2021 16:43

I hope you said no, that your bbq wasn’t transportable but plenty of garden centres are open selling them so you will still be seeing them tonight.

CoolCatTaco · 11/04/2021 16:43

Holy moly, unbelievably cheeky! What did they say when you said no??

MyDcAreMarvel · 11/04/2021 16:44

@problembottom you would reconsider a friendship where a friend asked to borrow an item?

SirusTheVirus · 11/04/2021 16:44

This is cheeky fuckery at its best Grin

SylviaPlath1984 · 11/04/2021 16:45

There's no situation or circumstance I can imagine where by I'd have the balls to be so shameless 😂 what goes through these peoples heads when they plan these things? You're not being unreasonable at all, I think they are cheeky and pretty idiotic lol

nearlynermal · 11/04/2021 16:46

When invited to a barbecue it's reasonable to expect a bottle of wine, a packet of salad leaves or MAYBE a few sausages. Not the actual BBQ. CF alert.

dotdashdashdash · 11/04/2021 16:47

Thing is, if they had asked when the BBQ was arranged we would probably have said yes and made an arrangement for them to collect or us to deliver. I was pissed off at the timing of the request and that they expected us to leave it.

It was made worse by us suggesting we bring our charcoal bbq (gas one is only 18 months old and we still have the old one) as we don't mind leaving it but that they needed to source some charcoal - they said no as it was too much hassle.

Before this I would have said we were good friends but their attitude when we said it wasn't really possible without real upheaval (we have 2 kids in rear-facing car seats) they became funny with us.

We ended up not going.

I'd made dessert and was providing some drinks as well. We'd pffered to take more.

KoalaOok · 11/04/2021 16:48

Ha! I thought this was going to be about being asked to bring meat or food. Not the actual BBQ! That's like going to a dinner party and being asked to bring the oven!

gamerchick · 11/04/2021 16:49

Point them towards b&q for one and decline the invite. Cheeky gits.

I disagree that you need to provide everything, arranging for someone to bring the salads, another a pudding, can work well in some circles. Asking for the bbq on the day is being unreasonable though! Could be fine if arranged in advance and both parties are happy, one having the bbq and the other having a better garden for example.
