to think it's really cheeky to invite someone to a BBQ then expect them to bring...

...The BBQ!?

We were invited last week to a friends today for a BBQ. They called this morning asking to borrow our BBQ, we assumed there's had broken or the one they ordered hadn't arrived etc - but no. They don't have one. So we suggested they come to ours and bring some of the stuff they'd bought as our BBQ is very heavy and large (won't fit in the car without removing the child seats and lying all seats flat) but it turns out, that not only did they want us to bring our BBQ, they wanted us to leave it at theirs as they are having other friends this evening.

Was IBU to say no? That I didn't want to take our large BBQ and gas bottle to their house and leave it with them?

I’d love to know how they came to the conclusion that this was an acceptable thing to ask. Hilarious!

PuppyMonkey · 11/04/2021 17:11

They were having two BBQs on the same day?Hmm

SunsetBeetch · 11/04/2021 17:12

That is bonkers! And yes, very bloody cheeky.

Figgygal · 11/04/2021 17:12

Cheeky bastards
Just Shock at the cheek

Some of these responses are hilarious, and are making me feel much better about saying no and not attending.

I'm usually really happy to lend stuff and help people out and as I said, had they asked prior, I'd probably have said yes but their snotty attitude when I said no pissed me off.

Not a chance. If they want a bbq they can buy their own!

thefirstmrsrochester · 11/04/2021 17:15

Unbelievably cheeky, even more so the rejection of your coal BBQ. Do you know anyone who is attending the evening BBQ who can report back OP? Imagine having not one but two BBQs without actually having a BBQ in your possession Confused

@dotdashdashdash

LOL cheeky feckers! Grin

Puts me in mind of a couple - who used to live 5 doors from us - some years ago, who invited me and DH and DD - and about a dozen other neighbours, and a further 20 or so colleagues and extended family to her firework party/BBQ. She told everyone 'come along and just bring a few bits to eat, and drink, and some fireworks.'

When people enquired further, it turned out that she wanted people to bring fireworks, wine, beer, pop, crisps, nuts, sausage rolls, cupcakes, pringles, hot dog buns, hot dog sausages, and all manner of things.

So .... she was having the 'firework party' and only providing the music, paper plates, and little plastic cups. It cost me and DH around £45 with the fireworks, booze, and snacks we took!

God knows how much the other 30 or so people spent. But she had a big firework party/BBQ, and had all the guests provide the food, drink AND the bloody fireworks. Amazingly she then went on to post 50 or so pics on facebook, and totally took full credit for it all!

So much for being invited to a party... it cost us a load of £££. Especially as she only bloody asked us - and half the other people 1-2 days before. So the only damn fireworks left in the shops, were the more expensive ones.

Some people are just hilariously self entitled!

Hope you had a nice bbq at home instead!

the80sweregreat · 11/04/2021 17:20

Oh dear, the bbq has rusted up and doesn't work : sorry ! Maybe another time when you've bought your own one maybe?
Cheeky friends you have there!

safariboot · 11/04/2021 17:21

You (soon to be ex) 'friends' win the Cheeky Fuckers of 2021 Award.

Leeds2 · 11/04/2021 17:21

I wonder what will happen at the evening BBQ. Maybe those guests will be asked to bring theirs too!

Tinydinosaur · 11/04/2021 17:24

🤣 God does love a trier!

I take a drink the host likes and drinks we like. But I do always ask if they want me to bring anything, especially as I'm vegetarian.

Cissyandflora · 11/04/2021 17:25

Awful. Bad enough being asked to bring ALL of the food. That’s happened to me and I’ve dropped friends over it. I would absolutely ditch these friends if I were you.

jessstan2 · 11/04/2021 17:26

How very odd and extremely cheeky.

Could they not afford to buy a barbecue for themselves? I've bought more than one, including two for my son, in my lifetime and they never broke the bank.

Argos sell several types and they deliver quickly.

Topseyt · 11/04/2021 17:27

Cheeky fuckers! That is like inviting someone to a dinner party and asking them to supply the cooker!

Glad you told them no. They should buy their own barbecue.

Iwantacookie · 11/04/2021 17:28

Seriously who invites someone to a bbq and asks them to bring the bbq! I wonder what they told their guests later Grin

SwedishK · 11/04/2021 17:28

Haha, wow! That’s some cheek.

NiceGerbil · 11/04/2021 17:29

That's really funny!

Moonwhite · 11/04/2021 17:30

Imagine if they hadn't told you the second part and you'd had a very odd "please leave now, but your bbq stays with us" conversation at 5pm...

Blacktothepink · 11/04/2021 17:30

Glad you didn’t go, the massive cf’s!

PoutineQueen · 11/04/2021 17:30

So presumably they'd also want your gas canister?

You could have taken your bbq but not the gas, and told them they'd have to buy their own gas, which would be more expensive than buying a standard bbq.

Bargebill19 · 11/04/2021 17:31

I was thinking ‘Cf April 2021’ award goes to your ‘friends.’

dotdashdashdash · 11/04/2021 17:31

@PuppyMonkey

They were having two BBQs on the same day?Hmm
Yes, us for lunch, other friends for dinner - I don't see an issue with this really what with the rule of 6/ 2 households thing. We've done similar last weekend.
