Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news...

Anybody care to join?

I realised that it was the everyday stuff I missed most during lockdown. I really miss things being normal and dull and unexciting. Everyone in RL just talks covid covid covid all the bloody time. If it isn't covid it's recessions and A levels.

I bought a new flask. It's a 500ml Thermocafe and I love it. I take it into work and out into the garden.

I am also learning to do something called a "halo braid" in my hair. I am so bad at braiding it's unbelievable.

The cat hid a dead shrew in DH's slipper this morning.

I invite you all to top this parade of mediocrity.

DD and I bought a bottle of Sarsaparilla Pop today and she liked it.

I’ve only just learned it’s spelt “Sarsaparilla“ and not Sasperella like I’d always thought.

Mind blown and probably to exciting to mention.

Mamette · 20/08/2020 18:55

@FiligreePot you’ve just reminded me that my mum used to wear a brand of jeans called Sasperilla when I was a child. Here’s a photo I googled- the label brings back memories:

The big fuchsia in my front garden on the other side of the path that goes in front of the study fell over in last night's storm. Now it's completely blocking the path and we won't be able to take the bins out until we chop it. It was for the chop even before this as it's just too vigorous and spreads over the summer to take over the driveway and the bin path. The bees love this fuchsia, but I do have to other less invasive ones also in the front garden so hopefully that will be enough for them.

For those who are worried about my plum-eating dog. He seems fine. The majority of the plums were eaten before we were aware that he had a taste for them (it's only visible from one window in the kitchen so we didn't see him doing it), they appear to have come through his digestive system with the stones intact. Once we realised he was doing it we picked up the fallen ones and put them in the compost bin as we were harvesting ripe ones so since then he's had an occasional one that fell after we'd cleared. He's a large dog (with teeny tiny legs) so his digestive tract seems to be roomy enough to pass the stones through. He's not showing any signs of discomfort at all, and he spends most of his time snoozing in the study while DH works from home so we'd notice if he was unhappy.

Omg @Mamette that clothing brand rings a bell with me too. Clearly that‘s the spelling that stuck in my brain Grin

forgetthehousework · 20/08/2020 19:21

I tidied some more of the garden and cut it up really small so the green bin is still only half full.
Then I rewarded myself by playing with my 1/24th scale medieval doll house; I'm halfway through making a workshop to fit on the side of it.

Beechview · 20/08/2020 19:25

Dh just saw the neighbour across the road come out of her house and drop some stuff into their neighbours skip and quickly rush away.
Dh thinks it’s practically a crime. I just shrugged.

alangarneristerrifying · 20/08/2020 19:38

@forgetthehousework that is wayy too exciting for this thread! I want a medieval dolls house!!

Megan2018 · 20/08/2020 19:42

I finally bathed the horse and cut her tail so it’s no longer touching the floor and covered in shit. My friend’s 3 year old “helped” and my baby found the whole thing hilarious. I then bathed the baby (not with a hose) and she shat in the bath. I feel this completed the circle nicely Grin

GBroGal · 20/08/2020 19:56

I went to work today and then came home. I made a mushroom stroganoff for supper and cooked some Carmargue red rice that I had to use up (best before July 2014). Red rice and dark brown mushrooms do not look terribly appealing together but they tasted very nice. Next time I'll use white rice.

RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 20/08/2020 19:59

I cut both sides of a 25m privet hedge and am now knackered.

SpeedofaSloth · 20/08/2020 20:02

I have just nominated this thread for Classics as it is so completely why I love you all so very much.
I probably did it wrong though.

SpeedofaSloth · 20/08/2020 20:04

I discovered how to date a Parker pen today. My very favourite pen is 23 years old Shock
It's my lovely Frontier fountain pen, I lost the ballpoint it came with which is a shame as my lovely DSis gave it to me.

SpeedofaSloth · 20/08/2020 20:05

Also, I am supposed to be writing a report and instead I am here. Oops.

The80sweregreat · 20/08/2020 20:16

Our hot water has packed up and the boiler is only two years old! ( been a strange day today in chez 80s house)
Looked up potterton boilers on Mumsnet and found an old thread from 07 saying they were rubbish and tended to break down a lot and were once mentioned on watchdog! It's under warranty , but I have a feeling it won't last like the old one did for years and years. Why didn't we buy something else?
The immersion is on now for hot water.
I hate boilers, nothing but grief.
Man can't come till Monday.

Our 20 month old casually counted to ten as she descended the stairs today.

We have not spent any time trying to teach her stuff like this, and she only goes to nursery once a week....I’m worried that she’s learnt this from Numberblocks and I’m a terrible parent.

Will phone the in laws tomorrow just in case they’ve been teaching her (they have her four days a week in term time when I’m at work). If they have, this would make me feel a lot better about her CBeebies habit.

Roystonv · 20/08/2020 20:25

Bought a new rubber mat for the bottom of the bath today.

Seconded! Classics please MN!

I'm having the BEST time reading all of your non-news. And it is SUCH a relief to find a thread with no hair-tearing and drama... THANK YOU @ReallySpicyCurry!

@lljkk

I just discovered a bony bit in my mouth. I feel 99% sure I've always had this bony protuberance, but never discovered it before (can't feel with tongue, only via finger pokes). How old did I have to get not to notice my own body peculiarities? Sheeesh.
Where in your mouth? I want to know if I've got one.
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 20/08/2020 20:37

DH went to to the opposite side of the country for work and to visit his mother in her care home. He left at 4:00 am and will return at about 1 tonight - so I watered his chilis and tomatoes.

UncleBunclesHouse · 20/08/2020 20:42

Our soft close toilet seat has stopped closing softly this week and I keep forgetting and scaring the shit out of myself when I let go of the lid and it bangs down

Whatsetshortfor · 20/08/2020 20:42

I almost bought a dress in Tesco today but they didn’t have my size.

I learned my alphabet from Sesame Street, there wasn't a wide variety of children's programming in the late 60s/early 70s so I NEVER missed it. I distinctly remember how annoyed my first primary school teacher got when I said 'zee' instead of 'zed', even though she tried to hide her annoyance. Grin
AnneBoleynsHead · 20/08/2020 21:01

I have Norwegian toes. I'm disappointed, I was hoping for Celtic ones.

BikeRunSki · 20/08/2020 21:05

I bought some petrol on my way home and the CoOp at the petrol station had a big basket of reduced food. Bought some baguettes and crusty loaves for the freeezer.

letsgomaths · 20/08/2020 21:07

@lljkk You discovering a bony bit in your mouth reminded me of something that was in my house, and I never knew it was there: there was a cat flap already there. It had the control so you could decide whether to keep the cat in or out, with little diagrams of a cat and a house. So for years, there were tiny pictures of a cat in my house that I had never noticed! Perhaps it was foreshadowing that I would get a cat after a few years there.
